- xxluvleaxxChester, United Kingdom579 contributionsGreat day outVisited the zoo as family but not babies or teens, grown up Sister and Mum. Took us ages to get here due to a landslide in a train tunnel so we abandoned a visit to Barcelona for the zoo since we had been stuck on a train for 3 hours at this point. Easy to find from arc de triomph station. Reasonable price to get in due to it's size, I liked the amount of wild litte egrets flying about and several varieties of parakeet! At one point we saw a sacret Ibis wandering about but I'm sure this had escaped the aviary. Good variety of animals with what appear to be good sized enclosures and enrichments. At one point they did close a section of the zoo off due to a problem with a Rhino. It was open again by the time we walked the other way round but we didn't see the Rhino at all. - Helen N10 contributionsBored animalsSet out over quite an area, Animals seemed well cared for , however alot off the cages needed updating. The animals looked bored and not stimulated. Tigers enclosure especially needed a good upgrade. Won’t be going againVisited October 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten October 12, 2023

- FisaBarcelona, Spain64 contributionsBarcelona Zoo VisitA visit to the zoo today was extremely fun! There was a range of animals to see and it was a wonderful experience to see them. Unfortunately many of the cafes within the grounds were closed however the gift shops were open and had some wonderful gift options for all ages. The weather was not the best today with it being cloudy, therefore it may not have seemed as good as it could be. Overall, it was still fun to see the animals especially the Giraffes 🦒Visited December 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten December 1, 2023
- Cheshire TravellerWarrington, United Kingdom342 contributionsGood day outWe visited for the day and had a great time. The zoo is really nice and the animal exhibits are really good. The gorilla enclosure is a highlight. The only negative being many of the cafes were closed meaning it can be a struggle on a hot day when your looking for a drink.Visited June 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten December 17, 2023
- Liam BStoke-on-Trent, United Kingdom72 contributionsGo to help the animals get better enclosures! The enclosures need to be bigger for the animals, but apart from that, going the time of year which we did, it was very quiet, which was a change to the normal hustle and bustle of the zoo. Good insight to seeing the animals are there was no one there, down side was there wasn’t any big cats in any of the enclosures. But again it might have been too cold for them to be out. Would definitely go again to see the improvements of the enclosures which they have signs saying there improvingVisited February 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten March 4, 2024
- TravelKat21Bel Air, Maryland302 contributionsZoo day!We purchased tickets to the zoo as part of the Barcelona Family Card. We spent about 2-3 hours here as there were so many animals to see. The walking trails were partly paved and partly mud. It had just rained, but didn't ruin our day. The signs were in 3 languages for the most part. Plenty of WC around the park.Visited March 2024Traveled with familyWritten March 26, 2024
- Family5GetAwaySt. John's, Canada320 contributionsNot a "must-do", but a good way to spend few hours. The zoo is bigger than you think and easy to get turned around in, but there are maps throughout to help you. I would recommend downloading the zoo map before arriving though. There are lots of different animals to see, some quite up close. Some were in smaller enclosures than we liked, but I understand that they are undergoing renovations to improve that. We visited on a Sunday afternoon so it was fairly crowded. I would recommend avoiding the weekends if your schedule allows to avoid the bigger crowds. We were there on a very hot day, but there are very few shady places to get a respite from the sun and these were typically filled with people, so you really feel the heat after a while. Unfortunately many of the restaurants and snack areas were also closed, but we found a vending machine to get some water. I strongly recommend bringing in your own water and coming earlier in the day when it would not be as hot.Visited April 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten April 30, 2024
- 77maple123Vancouver, Canada205 contributionsMust better than I thoughtMuch nicer than anticipated, we were offered seniors rate with no proof needed approx €10 we are from canada. Entrance ladies very nice and speak English. Having been to all the great zoos of the world including Singapore, London and San Diego many times this stood up well. Lots of enrichment for the animals, very clean and green plenty of shade. Birds and insects well displayed out feet hurt so we left without seeing fish, dolphins and big cats. Glad I went lots of happy children to watch while we restedVisited May 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten May 3, 2024
- D Lee LProvince of Barcelona, Spain15 contributionsDisappointed this timeBeen many times to the zoo having lived in the city for the last 11 years. Instead of improving I feel that it has gone backwards. Many areas no longer exist or are now closed to the public. The 7pm closing is a little deceiving in that many of the animals are put in their pens by 6.30pm leaving very little to see. The reptile house is closed and no new temporary one is available. All considered I feel this should be taken into account with regard to the entry fee until such time they renew the facilities and advise before people purchase. The platform for the elephants no longer has access. You can only see them from a distance and through great metal poles. I thought the new area for them would look different. Finally the security staff are very rude. Both at the entrance and to the insect house. We are paying customers so polite manners would be appreciatedVisited May 2024Traveled soloWritten May 20, 2024

We spent the morning and early afternoon at this lovely zoo and really enjoyed our visit. It was a lot bigger than expected, laid out very nicely and didn't feel too crowded, even though there were lots of other people visiting. There was plenty of shade too as it was very hot during our visit. The animals seemed content and inquisitive (we got lots of good close-up photos and videos of them!), and it came across to us that they were well looked after. The aquarium was closed but this didn't dampen our visit as there was still lots to see. We also really enjoyed the exhibit on the Komodo Dragons; it was good see the zoo's conservation efforts. We thought it was worth the ticket price of 21 euros each and would recommend it to anyone visiting Barcelona.

After reading a few reviews on here of the Zoo I didn’t think we were going to enjoy ourselves too much and only schedule 2 hours for our visit. How wrong I was! As an Animal Keeper myself I was so impressed by this Zoo! The reptile enclosures were absolutely fantastic, with such attention to detail. The indoor bird exhibits were also beautiful with a few species I hadn’t seen before. Outside the enclosures were modern, perhaps a little on the small side but considering it’s a city Zoo that’s to be expected but the paddocks were all enriched with trees and other enrichment items.
We were genuinely both really impressed with this Zoo and we cannot recommend it highly enough for animal lovers!

The location of Barcelona zoo is so convenieent for tourists like us and being inside the park means more convenience. We actually bought the tickets on one of the busy streets tourism shops thinking would save us a long wait in a cue only to find that we still needed to present our tickets at the ticket window for verification.
Inside, the zoo has very intersting variety of habitats and especially interesting are the internal enclosures like that of amphibians. The sea lions were particularly interesting and fin to watch although some concern was for the safety of the pool boundaries.
The walk was very long as the zoo had a L - shaped design. Many of the enclusures were either empty or not much to see, however, it was clear the animals' well being was at the forefront.
The zoo souvenir shop was nothing to write home about and could not buy a single item there even though we were ready and wanting. Poor and not much merchandise.
An overall nice half day at the zoo and i may go there again.

We spent about 3 and a half hours at Barcelona Zoo on a sweltering August day. We had discount vouchers on the entry price from the City Sightseeing Hop-on/off bus which made the admission quite good value. It's a small city zoo and a lot of the enclosures do seem quite outdated but it is clear improvement works are being done. On such a hot afternoon a number of the animals weren't in the outdoor areas of the enclosures to be visible, but that's understandable. We were entertained well enough by orang utans playing with sacks, grumpy tortoises squaring up to each other over the use of a puddle, elephants being hosed down, penguins being penguins and tapirs having a paddle. The bird house was diverting for 15 minutes but the insect house was a disappointment and the reptile house was closed completely.
There aren't many shaded areas so on such a hot day it did feel a bit of a chore walking around after a couple of hours. The restaurants were okay but nothing special (they only had sandwiches, salads, burgers or nuggets with chips) and hardly any tables in the shade. The shop was very disappointing.
I think at a cooler time of year we would have enjoyed it more but have no regrets about going and hope the improvement work in progress helps the zoo to thrive for years to come.

It was a great last minute choice (mainly due to the online tickets being half price!). We had already visited the park it is situated in, saw it and ended up going a couple of days later.
It is a big zoo. We walked for hours and hours, at one point we couldn’t believe that we had only covered a third of the zoo.
Great selection of animals however dolphin area was closed. As mentioned in other reviews, some of the enclosures appear small for large animals etc hence the 4 stars.
We had food there and didn’t find it too expensive.
I would recommend a visit.

This zoo made me feel sad. I wanted to see all the animals but equally wanted to get round it quickly so I didn’t have to see how sad and enclosed some of them were. The orangutans had the biggest section but then a whole load of gorillas are in one tiny space, both pygmy and normal hippos have the tiniest of spaces. Very disappointed.

Fantastic zoo garden located in great area in Ciutadella Parc. Everything is very close: arc of triumph, the beach, picasso museum. Tickets include interesting tour by different departments of zoo which contains different animals. Zoo staff friendly and helpful.

I was pleasantly surprised by this zoo. They had a diverse amount of species, all with little name and information boards. Some enclosures I was impressed with and some lacked care and attention. For example, the elephants and giraffes had good, different types of enrichment, whereas some animals had plain and dull enclosures. From what we could see the tiger was living on his own and the enclosure was a bit run down. The lion enclosure was very big but we could only see one male lion, I’m not sure if the zoo has other lions or what his story is but it would be nice to see him with some lionesses as these can be social animals. In total they had about 15 critically endangered species and 3/4 species that are extinct in the wild. (Although I’m not sure when this information was last updated.) Overall we had a nice trip and I would probably return.

We visited the zoo in november and was met by an almost empty zoo with no or few animals in the cages. The zoo still charged full rates, though. It is food for thought, that the first rule of the zoo - according to the signs at the entry - is “no refund”.

When I'm trying to buy tickets on the official website it does not let me choose a day/date. Do I need to purchase the tickets on the day I want to use them, or can I buy them in advance and use them once whenever I feel like it?

A weird question. Can anyone tell me if Peacocks are roaming free in the Zoo? My daughter had a huge phobia and won’t go in if so. Thanks and look forward to your replies

Can tourists join the ZOO CLUB? Under FAQ it mentions nothing about this, but the application does require a DNI, which is only for Spain citizens.

I couldn't tell you the answer to that as I'm not 100,% sure. Ive been to the zoo in Barcelona twice and I enjoyed both times. Loads of different animals and it's only a 10 to 20 minutes walk from the beach and la ramblas.
