Neighborhood: Eixample
Passing through the glorious Plaça Catalunya, you enter the newer city district of Eixample, literally translated as “extension,” which immediately becomes recognizable by its more spacious streets and elegant atmosphere. The main artery of this sizable district, Passeig de Gracia, is lined with high-end international designer stores. Not to be outdone, the glitz and glamour of this zone is perhaps best exemplified by the comfortable and lavish five-star hotels that flank the divine and modernistic buildings from some of the world’s most recognized architects such as Gaudi and Montaner.

This block of Paseo de Gracia is called the block of discord because the three famous modernist architects of Barcelona built their buildings there: Luís Domènech y Montaner, Jose Puig i Cadafalch and Antonio Gaudí. Of the three facades, the one I liked the most was the one by Domènech and Montaner, which is this one. Maybe it is because it has the most classic façade of the three, but I think it is the most beautiful of them even though it is rarely visited.

This is one of the most striking and significant works of Luis Domenech-i-Montaner. The curved facade of the house of Lleo y Morera is distinguished by the richness and complexity of forms, exquisite sculptural ornamentation with heraldic and floral motifs. The compositional center of the façade is the corner glazed rotunda and the graceful turret at the corner of the house accentuating its shape.

It has most certainly nothing discordant about it. Exquisite features abound on both streets.
Designed by Lluís Domènech i Montaner who was responsible for so many gems in the city, it was completed in 1905.
Was under the impression that a Hotel resided here, but there was no obvious signs of opening while visiting.

Walking with my girlfriend and a couple of friends, we passed by Casa Lleo i Morera. Built in the Catalan modernist style, it was the work of architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner, in 1902. It has a beautiful dome that appears above the trees.

Casa Lleo i Morera is one of three buildings in Illa de la Discòrdia of Passeig de Gracia built in the style of Catalan Modernism. Less colourful than Casa Batllo and Casa Amatller, but no less opulent with it’s richly decorated balconies and facade. The most striking elements of the building are the rounded bay window on the corner of the building, the mulberry motifs throughout the facade as seen on the supporting columns of the Corinthian order and balconies of the second floor.
The giant stained glass for animals is probably highlight of the tour for me.
Casa Lleo i Morera isn’t quite as awesome as either Casa Batllo or Casa Amatller, but I’d already seen the other two on previous trips, seeing this building is a nice way to complete the set.

We have visited several of the art nouveau buildings in Barcelona over several visits, but we finally visited Casa Lleo i Morera and found it to be one of the most beautiful. Gaudi gets a lot of attention, but this one-floor apartment by Lluis Domenech i Montaner has sculptures above doorways, elaborate floors and spectacular stained glass. You must take the 30 minute guided tour, but can then spend more time photographing and enjoying. Also pleasant was the fact it was not crowded.

I did the express tour which is a 1/2 hour tour of the building. Only the first floor is open to the public. The guide is very informed the and interior is beautiful. I really enjoyed this tour...I actually enjoyed it much more than I enjoyed Casa Batllo.

Number 35 was designed by the man who created Catalunyan Modernisme. He is overlooked by tourists on the way to Casa Batllo. See his work and his influence all through the city, then view Sagrada Familia from Hospital Saint Pau, where all patient rooms face the Gaudi epic in construction.

Beautiful house, built and decorated in a Modernista style, which is the Spanish answer to the German and Austria Jugendstil and French Art Nouveau from 120 years ago. An island of serenity in the Middle of a busy Barcelona that preserves the greatness and beauty of the style at that time.

We just went on the website's virtual tour of Casa Lleo i Morera, and understand from a trip advisor post that it is not open to the public. Does anyone know if it once was open to the public and/or if there are plans to open it to the public in the future?
Written March 13, 2018
It is open from Mon to Sat. 10h to 7h and only by tour. So check for entry tickets on Viator , Get your guide or also remember that Barcelona Tourist info is very user friendly for any advise. Enjoy Barcelona, fascinating city in all its facets. Also remember to venture a bit out of the city to fascinating sites! I am also back in Barc again in April.

Hi MichaelWeiser,
Could you please let me know how did you tour Casa Lleo i Morera? I can't find any information about prices, times, tours etc? Some people say it is permanently closed as of 2016 but looking at your pictures this is not the case.
Thank you very much,
Mariela

Hi Mariela, I just passed there. there is a guard at the entrance. He told me to come again 20 minutes later as tours are guided. I just did, paid and entered the place.
At the Barcelona tourism site it's mentioned it is closed for redesigning.
I recommend an additional beautiful building of the same age. the Hush museum is located in it and the building is phenomenally beautiful. the exhibition itself is also very interesting, although we came for the building.
it is called the Hemp Museum Gallery.
It is located in Carrer Ample, 35, 08002 Barcelona
open daily from 10:00 - 22:00.

By the way, I never witnessed a queue at the Casa Lleo Morera, so I don't find any reason to buy tickets in advance. The street it is located in is so beautiful, so if you need to wait for the next guided tour there, just walk around in the meantime.

Any thoughts on the express multi-language tour versus the hour long English tour. The English tour only being once a day limits my flexibility with my schedule, but can't imagine a tour repeated in three different languages in just 30 minutes could provide much information.

I did not take the multi language tour but the English one was very informative and there was time to ask questions during the tour that you might not have in a multi tour. I agree. This house is a little gem and being from the architect who was Gaudi's teacher, it really shows where his influence came from.
Depending on your level of interest:
If you are really a fan of architecture wait and take the English tour.
If not an architecture devotee you can still enjoy the beauty of the house during the multi language tour.
This house is worth your time.

From the airport, do you take the airport bus where does it stop or take the metro, which metro station?
how far is the hotel from either stop? Am concerned as we may have a lot of luggage to pull. Thank you

Aerobus if you catch the first morning bus 35 minutes as there is no traffic. It stops in the middle of downtown at Placa Catalunya across from the large El Cortes Dept store. From Placa Catalunya It is a 9 minute walk to Casa Lleo Morera, a 12 to 15 minute walkd iIf you are staying at the Doubletree by Hilton on Carrer Mallorca.
