About
bcnKITCHEN is a local cooking school, we are passionate about food and our objective is to share that passion with you! We have two kitchens, one in the charming Born district and the other in the Boqueria market building, all of the ingredients we use come from the market that you will be visiting with our chef. Once you arrive back at our cooking school, wine in one hand apron in the other, it’s time to start cooking! After a couple of hours of action you’ll sit amidst the dishes you have prepared with the satisfaction of having prepared a Spanish feast!

Neighborhood: La Rambla
Barcelona's most famous street was once a dry riverbed. Now, La Rambla is a 1200-meter boulevard, and a major draw for visitors. During the day, La Rambla fills with pedestrians, some of which stroll past impressive human statues and artists while others take a break to people-watch while enjoying a drink at one of the many terraces. Housed here is the iconic Boqueria Market that offers one of the most varied and appetizing selections of local produce and specialty meats and treats. While it’s important for tourists to keep an eye on their belongings at all times, this area is most safely explored in the daytime and is a must see for everyone who visits.

    Full Spanish Experience
We cooked a full Spanish menu with gazpacho, pan con tomate, tortilla, paella and crema catalana. The location in El Born and the venue were fantastic and chef Stefano was an excellent teacher. The size of the group was perfect, only six people, so we enjoyed personalized attention. We needed that as some of the participants were trying to misbehave. Chef Stefano was walking us through every step from buying the right ingredients in the market to burning the sugar on top of the crema catalana. I'm really proud of my newly acquired squid cleaning skills. At the end of the class, we ate all the food we had prepared along with a bottle, or more like three bottles, of white wine.

    A Don’t Miss Activity!
Our chef was outstanding - very knowledgeable, friendly, humorous, and patient. He explained the choice of ingredients when we visited the market, and gave very helpful advice, tips, and suggestions to help the 10 of us work together to prepare the various dishes. Everything turned out delicious, and we enjoyed it all with red and white wine. Highly recommend this particular activity!

    An unforgettable experience
Al was very funny and super knowledgeable! One of my favorite quotes from him is: "I don't teach people to cook, I teach people to like cooking." This was so true as he made the experience a lot of fun! Going with the whole family was awesome and everyone was included in the cooking process. The meal was very fresh and delicious!

    Disappointing
When I scheduled this cooking class I specifically told the staff that we were allergic to shellfish and wanted to do a paella without shellfish if we could. We were told by email that our request was not a problem. So when we got to the class to watch a shellfish paella being prepared, we were surprised. The chef informed us that they only do the non-shellfish recipe on Mondays, even though we were told that dietary restrictions were not a problem. The chef ended up making a second paella out of chicken, which we appreciated, but made it with water (no stock) so it was bland other than the heavy amount of salt that was used. Being an optimist, I figured I could try to modify the recipe myself. However, when we were emailed the recipes a few days after the class, several ingredients that we saw being used in both paellas were missing (like the amount of paprika...seems important to know). During the class each of the teams of people working on the recipes got a few instructions to start, and then did most of the work on their own. That meant that other than the paella, we didn't see how each of the dishes were actually put together unless we were working on them ourselves. I would have given even fewer stars, but the tortilla recipe and the gazpacho recipe were pretty good. I felt that the chef tried to accommodate us, but wasn't really able to make a decent recipe with what she had on hand.

    Not what we expected
Decent food. Not really a cooking class, more of an opportunity to chop some stuff up. 30 euro meal with 100 euros tacked on. Cheap wine provided! Wouldn't recommend.

    Wish it were better
I wish this review was better. The chef was very friendly and hospitable. Our classmates were also fun and made the experience better. However, the actual cooking class wasn’t impressive. We started with an hour market tour of La Bocqueria. I wish we could have learned more about the various food items offered, though I recognize that with the crowds, it’s not an easy ask. The class then prepared several items, ranging from paella to gazpacho to Catalan custard. Maybe it’s our tastes, but the food just didn’t turn out well. We’ve had better classes elsewhere with more helpful tips. And the wine served was awful. We aren’t picky, but suggest not offering any wine at all rather than something so poor. This might be a little overly critical, as the class itself was enjoyable. It’s just that we’ve had a lot of other cooking experiences that were better

Wonderful Way to Spend an Afternoon
I booked a 4 hour cooking class at the El Born location. In total there were 9 students that day and our teacher was the amazing and delightful Leena. We started our day with a trip to Santa Caterina market which was less than a 10 minute walk away. I ended up preferring this to La Bouqueria because it's less of a tourist destination so had I not gone with this group, I likely would not have gone at all. We spent about 45 minutes there. We learned some interesting things about farming and agriculture in Spain. And visited 3 or 4 stalls to purchase things. There was no pressure to buy anything at all but good buys and local favourites were pointed out. We then headed back to prepare our 5 dishes. For much of the time, all dishes are being worked on simultaneously so it wasn't possible to catch every single step and detail for each dish but I learned more than I expected in this format, and Leena happily answered any and all questions and oversaw all steps/dishes like she was conducting an orchestra. There were always enough tasks for everyone to be doing something if they wanted (and our group were eager to do so) but it wasn't so manic that we couldn't stop to take pictures or top up our wine! We sat down to a delicious meal together and Leena kindly gave us a list of suggestions for restaurants, gelato spots, flamenco...whatever we asked. I feel very lucky that I got the group of people I did in my group. Everyone was lovely and we came as strangers and left as friends. I highly recommend this class for anyone looking to learn some great cooking skills/tips, eat a homecooked meal, and do something a bit different on their holiday.

Favourite activity, great group, delicious food and wonderful teacher
This was the highlight of my trip to Barcelona and a brilliant thing to do for a solo traveller. For €70 you get a 4 hour cooking class which includes all your ingredients (which you go round and source fresh from La Boqueria at the beginning of the class), a big old lunch and unlimited vino! You get stuck in right from the beginning, chopping, mixing, learning traditional methods of cooking (trying bits along the way!), all taking responsibility of each dish at different times. You finish off with sitting round a table together eating your dishes, drinking wine and chatting. I did the English course as wasn't ready for the Spanish one, and our teacher was bi-lingual so conducted the class in English but taught us lots of traditional Spanish tips. Brilliant way to spend 4 hours of the day, highly recommend. After the class you get sent the recipes to recreate at home.

This was one of the nicest experiences I had in Spain and I would recommend it highly to anyone who even vaguely enjoys cooking. The women running the workshop are highly professional but friendly and approachable. The food and wine are divine - and they are very generous with both. I am looking forward to trying out all the recipes on my family and friends.

Taking the bcn KITCHEN class was one of the best parts of my 2 week visit to Barcelona. Rais, our chef extraordinaire, was not only informative about the neighborhood, culture, and recipes--but she was also fun. You could easily see the passion that she has for cooking and how much she enjoys sharing it with others. The market was great--actually my favorite market of the many that I saw in Barcelona during my stay. Our group was an eclectic mix of backgrounds and nationalities--and therefore also provided great company. Everyone participated in part of the cooking process, without feeling like it was too overwhelming, even for novice chefs. Highly recommend participating in a course if you are in Barcelona--you won't regret it!

Had a brilliant class today with some fun people from all over the world and master chef, Rais. We first toured a market to get the ingredients and Rais explained all the dishes we'd be making along with their origins. The class was hands on with the wine free-flowing and we ended up producing some pretty delicious and good looking food. Rais even filled us in on some local secrets about which bits of the cuttlefish to use and which saffron to buy, etc. The Gazpacho was delicious, as was the seafood paella and the Catalan creme... Actually all of it was delicious! Very good value. You even get the recipes and access to Rais' suggestions on where to eat in Barcelona at the end. Fabulous!
