The area
Neighborhood: El Born / La Ribera
The labyrinth that is El Born becomes most apparent the moment you turn down one of its side streets. But this is one of the few labyrinths you might actually enjoy losing your way in. After all, there are few places that live and breathe such exciting energy regardless of the time of day. This neighborhood seamlessly transcends the old and new parts of the city, reflected in its vast array of restaurants ranging from fancy Michelin-star establishments to trendy fusion restaurants. Here you'll find historical and cultural attractions such as the popular Picasso Museum and the Gothic cathedral La Santa Maria del Mar, where you just might be able to catch a traditional Catalan wedding.

The show was very professional, started on time, and lasted around 1.5 hours, which is more than enough for this type of entertainment. We enjoyed both the colorful dancing as well as the singers. My husband was so pleased he bought their DVD. Would definitely recommend it.

The flamenco performance was great and very entertaining with the live music. The venue was beautiful-Palau de la Musica Catalana. My only complaint is that the seating in the balcony-third level, isn’t the best. We purchased the cheaper tickets but would have spent the extra couple euros for better seats if we had known. Every time the people seated in the row in front of us leaned forward in their seat, it completely blocked our view. We had to then lean forward in our seat in order to see the performance. By doing this we ended up blocking the view of those in the row behind us. So you end up with a few rows of people all leaning forward in their chairs just to see the performance. It would have been nice if the balcony attendants or ushers took notice to this and maybe respectfully suggested for everyone to sit back comfortably in their seats. Or due to the large amount of open seats, maybe suggest that guests could move seats. Great performance though with very passionate dancers! If I were to return, I would be willing to pay for the better seats.

First negative, to end with positive :)
I visited the show April 21st 2019. Bought tickets online, via TripAdvisor. I choose VIP tickets, 50 EUR, that was most expensive choice. Here's what this option states:
"VIP seat in the stalls, close to the stage, for the 9:30pm show at Palau de la Música Catalana"
Notice the phrase "close to the stage" - this could not have been farther from the truth. Our seats were almost at the very end of the hall, far from stage, that's what they call VIP for 50 EUR.
Also, I did not receive tickets via email (as I always expect) (checked Spam folder too), I only got a transactional email from PayPal. So, I did screenshots of pages where I was and also downloaded tickets from the page after I made a purchase. I don't know whether I'd manage to retrieve the tickets somehow if I closed the windows after the purchase.
One more thing with tickets - the tickets that we got had to be exchanged on spot. There are, obviously, 2 kinds of tickets - for one type of them you don't need to stay in line to exchange them, they are simply scannable by their devices, but the other type is not scannable. We had non-scannable tickets that we had to exchange first, and to do that, we had to stay in line. So, if you go the same route (buy tickets via TripAdvisor/Viator), you should arrive a little bit earlier.
So, I give this show 4/5 instead if 5/5 because of confusion of VIP seats, which are not close to the stage at all.
Now the good part.
The place itself is fantastic, beautiful. You certainly don't expect to see that when looking up a flamenco show. So, the bonus of this performance is the amazing, luxurious building and hall (specifically "Palau de la Música Catalana" and not the "Teatre Poliorama").
There were around 10 people on stage: both musicians and dancers. There were both solo performances and choreography. The show was very well put together, it was not random or chaotic, it was consistent. Nice music. With lyrics but not always. 2 singer males. Women changed dresses. The stage was very beautifully lit, with varying colors and shades. At times they created a feeling of mystery. The show lasted for about 1 hour and a half as stated. They did return for an encore.
All in all, I enjoyed the performance and show as a whole much more than I anticipated. The audience was excited and wanted more. This show @ 9:30 PM is a perfect way to end the day, possibly with a glass of Sangria after the show.
I highly recommend this performance, but just take note of the discrepancies between what is stated when you buy it and what you actually get. And arrive a little earlier just in case, if you have to exchange tickets.
I wish you all a great time.

Based on reviews here and elsewhere I had high hopes for this. I had bought the tickets for my girlfriend who is learning to dance Flamenco. I like Opera music but we rarely go, so I thought it could be a good opportunity to share some of our interests.
Unfortunately, she has now probably been put off Opera for life! The flamenco was not bad, but barely professional standard. The female dance was good, the man made some basic (and obvious errors) but at least they seemed to put their all into it, and they did it with passion.
The Opear singers had their microphones set at a far too sensitive level, which meant it came booming out of the speakers even when they should have been singing delicately. The result was Opera that you might expect a busker to be singing on the metro. No passion, no subtlety, no feeling, no class.
Behind them was an insipid orchestra, with a cellist who not only could not stop grinning and nodding his head as if he was playing in a bar band, he was also often out of time and key. The rest of the band were pretty good for their part, although it didn't really work for the Opera, which is maybe why they tried to drown them out.
There were some nice moments when the Opera was taken on by the Flamenco but it seemed to me that the whole thing was put on for tourists and that the performers were tired and uninterested. That the whole thing lasted only a hour was in some ways a relief, but for 35 euros per ticket it seems grossly over priced. The half an hour Flamenco in placa Reial is much better and 8 euros, with a free drink. I felt like the performers thought we knew no better and so gave us no better.
I was really expecting something of much higer quality. I suspect in previous years it may have had that. Here it was in very, very short supply.

I have just got back from a weekend in Barcelona to celebrate my Husbands birthday. We pre- booked tickets for a performance of Opera y Flamenco based on the good reviews that we had read - after all it has been going strong for 8 years so surely there must be something good about it ?? How wrong we were. From the opening notes we could not believe how unmusical the whole evening was going to pan out! Instruments were out of tune. The first female singer sounded as though she had to be a relation of Margarita Crakatan(apologies to the aforementioned at least you have good comedic value!) I can only imagine that she must be completely tone deaf as there was virtually no true note hit. The opera singers were just so so. They sang arias which were pleasant enough, well known but not terribly well executed. The dancers were probably the best part of the "event" although they seemed a little jaded as though they are bored with the whole performance. I think that for the 40 euros a head spent on these tickets we had an extremely poor value experience. The saving grace was that it only lasted a little over an hour. Had there been an interval I doubt that we would have gone back for a second half! In contrast to this debacle, we had been to an amazing guitar recital given by Xavier Coll the night before which cost less than half the money of these tickets and which literally blew our socks off it was so brilliant!

I have booked for Flamenco Performance at Palau de la Musica Catalana with VIP booth. The seat was selected and confirmed on-line and voucher was issued accordingly. It was a shock until the date for the show that I went to the Palau de la Musica but was told it should be Teatre Poliorama. On the voucher it showed departure address as the Palau de la Musica. I went to Palau de la Musica and was told that the ticket was issued for Teatre Poliorama. It was like booked a 5 star Hotel and was transferred to a 2/3 star Hotel. I met another group who have the same issue that booked for Palau de la Musica but voucher was for Teatre Poliorama. There was no notification of change of venue even I booked with selected seat at Palau de la Musica. You can even buy it for much cheaper price for Teatre Poliorama while you are there. This is the first time I have such a problem with booking via Tripadvisor and must carefully read the voucher again even it was confirmed online.

Dear guest,
We are very sorry that we did not meet his expectations. We have forwarded your comment to the person in charge. It is important to highlight that the prices of our shows are the same for both locations (Palau de la Musica or Teatre Poliorama).
In the Poliorama Theater our spectators can enjoy a quite intimate atmosphere. The theater is located right on Las Ramblas, one of the most important venues in the city.
Sincerely,
Barcelona and Flamenco.

I used the reviews here to research many activities, abd after seeing this had many favorable reviews, opted to purchase tickets. I wish I hadn't. If you know music, this will be painful for you. The singing was horrible. The singers were dropping notes all over the place. The dancing was not good. I've seen flamenco and this was not it. The transitions between the opera and flamenco were horrible. It's like they weren't even trying. One singer had absolutely no stage presence and kept looking down the entire show. The performers also talked on stage, which is a no no and distracting. We spent ~100 usd, and I wish I'd spent that money on something else. This is a tourist trap and the first time trip advisor let me down.

We went to see the show because we had heard wonderful reviews of the theater. And the theater was amazing and worth the visit. But the show was disappointing. I had expected lots of vibrant dancing. The dancing was good but not as colorful or vibrant as I had expected. And there was lots of singing that wasn't good at all. It was more like shouting.
My recommendation would be to take a tour of the facility or to find some other show to see there.

Considering that we paid 50euros each to see this terrible show at the poliorama (which is a complete zero compared to the Palau de la musica location) and that the performance was horrible, we would like to get a refund. It was that bad. To the director: pls go in person to see the performance yourself to see just how horrible the singing and how bored and dejected the musicians look.

Are there two different venues? We are looking for a Flamenco performance that allows the audience to be close to the stage and not a large opera hall/ theater.

Hi,
We have two different shows in two different venues (more info at our website barcelonayflamenco com), in the both venues the VIP tickets are very close from the Stage. The Palau de la Música is a very large theater and the Poliorama it is more a more intimate place.
Best Regards.
