Some time ago, I took a Spanish civil war tour with Nick. It was top class. Nick has a deep knowledge and appreciation of Spanish history and is a passionate storyteller. The objects and mementos he carrys help bring immediacy and life to the conflict. The political leanings are definitely to the left, but he gives a fair hearing to all sides of the conflict. This tour is a must for all history buffs who visit Barcelona.

The Civil War had always been a source of confusion to me, so many parts that did not fit entirely. I understood that Barcelona had played a very big part in it but it seemed fuzzy, and then I took this tour. Taking this Tour was one of the best ideas we could have had; Nick is extremely passionate about the history of Barcelona and specifically the Spanish Civil War. We booked this tour together with my mother who understands English very well but who sometimes has trouble speaking, Nick was extremely polite, since there were only a few of us taking the tour, he calmly explained the bits she had more trouble understanding in Spanish. It is a very informative tour, if you are looking for a walk around Barcelona with some tidbits of information here and there, this is not the tour for you. You go into the history of how Spain arrived at the Civil War, what Barcelona's involvement was and of course Orwell. I highly recommend this tour if you are interested in knowing more about the history of Barcelona and the roles the city and its building played in the Civil War.

The tour was an almost unbelievable mix that's a must for anyone interested in the Spanish Civil War. Nick Lloyd has extensive knowledge of the Civil War, which wasn't a surprise. But his ability to express that knowledge is remarkable. I'm a history buff who's read "Homage to Catalonia" and the wife came in not knowing anything on the subject. We were both blown away by this tour. The hours flew by.

Of all the things to do in Barcelona my husband was non-plussed about the agenda, the only thing he wanted to book was this tour. His hunch was right. Nick is a very knowledgeable historian and affable and led our small group around Barcelona in search of knowledge of the Civil War, with political, cultural and literary references throughout. His collection of artefacts was generously shared, explored and explained. He has some amazing pieces from that time, from membership cards, photographs and personal memorabilia. He is an adept narrator and is able to answer questions which might be off-topic without going down a rabbithole. He also made sure everyone was included in conversations as we toured La Ramblas and its environs. There were people in the group who were more knowledgeable than others but everyone came away with more insight into the events of the Spanish Civil War.
