About
The Barcelona L'Aquàrium is located in the old harbour, Port Vell, and is the world's most important marine leisure and education centre dedicated to Mediterranean undersea life. It is the perfect place to find out about the seabed and all its different species. You'll learn about them through the 66 Mediterranean and tropical tanks which are home to 11,000 animals from some 450 different species. The most spectacular of all is the immense Oceanarium, the only one in Europe. A transparent 80-metre-long tunnel runs through the Oceanarium where you can walk among sharks, giltheads, morays, ocean sunfish and many more species. Planeta Aqua and Explora! show the importance of water in the development of our planet, and kids can discover the underwater world by using their five senses.

Worth it if you haven't been to shark aquarium before
was smaller than we expected, you would casually walk around it in 45 minutes. My son was brave enough to do the shark cage diving, it was a quiet day so instructor brought him out into the main tank where he got to swim beside the sharks, stingray and lots of other fish, big highlight for all of us seeing him do that, instructor Sergio was very helpful and encouraging. Younger son was disappointed there were no seAquariuma turtles on show. Would highly recommend the aquarium if doing the shark diving, not so much if just touring the aquarium.

    Nice but little too expensive
Aquarium is nice and well manteined. Tunnels and explora experience are surely a plus especially with kids. I would have expected some more species (i didn't see turtles or dolphines for example, maybe they have not enough space for some kind of species), but i find this attraction still good to sp3nd a funny morning with children. As other guests, i find kids ticket definitely too expensive, 21 €. A family entrance is a sort of investment, i believe that some effort shoud be done to lower at least kids price (even the biberon for fish feeding 4 euros is very expensive).

Not so happy about the penguins
It was an amazing and beautiful aquarium with lots of good informed information about the state of the oceans and the habitats of creatures. We were however not sure if the penguins are in a good space all locked up , they did not look happy. The 2 Oceans aquarium has a bigger open space for the penguins and they are moving around a lot more and seem much happier.

Worth a visit if you've never been to a big Aquarium
Very diverse aquarium, had a lot of fun observing all the fishes. It is kept very clean, for both humans and fishes. It is interesting that they also have tunnels through which you can go under water. They do have shark diving as well. They also advertise the feeding times of certain fishes so you can view that too. Be careful though as they offer to take a picture when you first come in (with a shark), but don't tell you anything more and when you exit, someone will have your picture already printed and tell you you can pay 12 euro for it. Seems like a tourist trap, but you can refuse. On exit, they have a shop with lots of plushies, postcards and other souvenirs you can buy. Entrance was €24 per adult. You can take pictures inside as long as it's not with flash.

    Nearly enclosed walk through tank
A mostly enclosed walkway circles a large central tank. Great views of large fish, including sharks. Best exhibit in otherwise ordinary aquarium. No outdoor exhibits. Area for feeding carp, but no hands on exhibits. Nice air conditioned space on a hot day.

    Nice experience
Nice place to visit specially if you haven’t visited any Aquarium before. Kids will love it. Unique experience to see shark so close. Ticket price is slightly high, no family deals. Staff takes your photo while entering the Aquarium is another hit but deafeningly you will pay for it 12 Euro if you want to get it. (which you will) . Will recommend it on your to do list

Nice aquarium for those interested in marine life
A variety of marine animals, some of which we have never heard of before in the UK. There are some cool sections such as a moving conveyor which takes you around the shark and stingray tanks. Make sure to book online in advance for deals and to avoid long queues. Slightly on the expensive side (we only spent two hours here) but otherwise a nice aquarium for those who have an interest in marine life.

    Best aquarium we’ve seen!
My husband and I were visiting Barcelona after a 7 day cruise. We live in London and have visited some aquariums around the world, including France and Romania. We loved the tunnels where you could see sharks swimming above your head, the splendid variety of species of marine life and something that stuck with us were the shark embryos developing in their little sacks in the tank. We highly recommend visiting, it’s well worth the €25, a bargain for the plethora of eye catching fish, not to mention there are also penguins too!

    Good aquarium
We liked the ease of entry. It was expensive but a coupon made it more affordable. My favourite war the octopus tank and Mediterranean tanks since we had observed some of those fish in the wild. The cafe was well placed.
Thank you very "capplecart" much for your review. We are proud to show visitors the wide variety of fish and sharks that can be found in the Mediterranean and other seas around the world.

    Amazing animals, too crowded place
It`s my second time at the Aquarium and I can definetly see an improvement, however it is not a big one. From 2018 that I have last been, the only difference I see (which is great that it exists) is the conveyor belt. The place is too crowded though, there is no natural light, of course - the last one is for the people with Computer vision syndrome.
Thank you Bettina, we appreciate the comments of our visitors because they always help us improve. We apologize for the inconvenience caused by finding some areas too crowded. It is difficult for us to fully satisfy all our visitors when there is a large influx of public on specific days and at certain times of the day. We will continue working to improve the experience.

Terrible queuing, only one member of staff on at the ticket desks. Nice aquarium though for families. Can spend a good few hours in there to get the full experience of everything

My husband and I visited the aquarium on our last day. Was one of the stops on the hop on hop off tour bus (Port Vale) It was so well laid out and although the sharks were the main attraction, seeing so many different fishes, sea horses, sting rays and even the living sea plants was lovely. The one thing I didn’t agree with was the penguins. Stuck in an indoor tank set up with rocks and a swimming area near the glass so you could see them swimming. Unless they have an outdoor area then it’s cruel. You can also pay to go down in a crate into the largest tank holding the sharks. Allow 2 hours and there is a cafe.

We arrived to the aquarium on May 3, 2024. Total rip-off. It took 10 minutes to see everything (family of 4). Tunnel was not accessible/available.

Excellent selection of fish, some good information about sustainability somewhat undermined by the amount of plastic bottles for sale in the aquarium. Would have liked to see more jellyfish and wouldn't recommend going on a public holiday as I suspect it was busier than usual

I was expecting more control/surveillance from the aquarium staff. Being a Sunday morning, there were many people with children and despite the barriers, they were leaning against the glass of the pools and did not respect the instructions (e.g. do not knock on the glass). The tanks in the first part of the exhibition seemed older and less cared than those in the final part of the exhibition. At the time of the visit, the staff were cleaning the penguins tank: I didn't expect it was done during the opening hours. Limited choice of food in the refreshment area. The tunnel underwater is adding value to the visit. Overall it was not in line with my expectations. However, worth a visit if you are in Barcelona and plan to stay for some days.

Bigger than i expected from the map! In the beginning there was long part that was closed off due repairs so there was quite long walk of emptyness. Defienetly the sharks and penguines are the main attraction in this aquarium. When the repairs are done it is worth the visit

As the title says, the place was overbooked. Absolutely rammed with people who frankly weren’t bothered about personal space. As a result it was not a pleasant experience and got overly warm.

The tanks themselves weren’t great, nowhere near the likes of the oceanographic in Valencia or even a reasonable sea life centre. For the price, an absolute rip off.

To make it worse, in a number of areas the building itself was run down - exposed ceiling tiles, tatty carpet, a real lack of care and presentation.

I’d give it a miss if you are planning on visiting.

Thank you MJHughes85 for your comment, We apologize for the inconvenience caused by finding some areas too crowded. It is difficult for us to fully satisfy all our visitors when there is a large influx of public on specific days and at certain times of the day, specially in Easter holidays. In any case, we regulate the entrance according to the capacity we have. We recommend, if possible, to avoid holiday periods, particularly in the middle of the day. We are currently renovating certain spaces, but this does not affect visits to the aquariums. Most of the aquariums are open except for one or two that are being remodeled, tasks we do continually to maintain the good condition of our aquariums. We will continue working to improve our quality.

This was brilliant! We were so surprised at how massive the place is so do allow plenty of time. The staff were extremely friendly and there were good facilities; toilets, place to grab food, shop. We saw SO many seahorses including baby ones and baby sharks. There is a HUGE tank at the end with sharks, rays, loads of fish - its stunning.
