About The Barcelona Taste
The Barcelona Taste was founded in 2009 to introduce curious locals and adventurous tourists alike to the culinary treats nestled within the labyrinth that is Barcelona. After years of exploring, sampling, and delighting in the local secrets, we decided we were ready to share our discoveries with other discerning palates wanting to experience a more authentic Barcelona. Barcelona is, obviously, a major tourist destination and the number of tours, guidebooks, and websites devoted to the city’s visitors can be overwhelming. This is another reason we decided to start The Barcelona Taste: a small, local culinary tour that lets you experience all the great food while side-stepping the crowds. We are Barcelona’s first complete gastronomical tour built around the idea that there is no reason to just walk and talk about food when it’s possible to walk, talk, and eat it! So, welcome! We look forward to tapas tasting our way around Barcelona with you.

Monday Evening Eixample Tapas Tour with The Barcelona Taste

The gorgeous neighbourhood of Eixample is as much about delicious top-quality food as it is about architectural masterpieces. For this tour, we have carefully selected restaurants to share with you... and to make it super special we only run it on Mondays – a night notoriously difficult if you want to have a top-notch dinner in Barcelona (many restaurants take this as their weekly day off).

Starting in Eixample Dreta (right), we walk by the gorgeous Casa Batlló, one of Gaudí’s exceptional works. We visit three food and drink establishments that we consider are among the best of the area (and the city!). You'll enjoy a welcome cocktail at a very old and elegant Art Deco bar, followed by two restaurants where we’ll experience different ways of understanding tapas... the one thing both have in common is plenty of truly excellent food. But what will surprise you the most is the quality and variety of the wine. These guys know what they’re doing... book now and don't miss out!

Gothic Quarter Tapas Tour with The Barcelona Taste

Poble-Sec Tapas Tour with The Barcelona Taste

On this 3 hour food tour we worm our way through the city's old but vibrant performing arts district, calling in at 3 uniquely different venues. Poble Sec is centrally located, but feels miles away from the touristy crowds. The food is exceptional, with several of the traditional dishes offered with a little twist.

This is not a large historical walking tour with only a snack to look forward to at the end. As a Barcelona-only company we only work with independent, local restaurants, chosen for their best-in-class food and desserts. We promise you won’t go hungry.

After 10 years of running tours, we know the best tours should feel like dinner out with a friend of a friend. In this small group tour, conversations will flow, and your guide will safely lead you through Barcelona sharing a personal, relaxed evening. Chat about the neighbourhood, food, and anything else that comes up – be it about Barcelona life, culture or history.

As recommended by Rick Steves, Lonely Planet and more!

Premium Wine and Food Excursion with The Barcelona Taste

With distinctive fast-draining soil and a unique microclimate overlooking the Mediterranean, Alella has produced exceptional wines since Roman times, served to Emperors no less! This fame continued in the Middle Ages, when Alella wines were served at the court of the Kings of Aragon.

Today, Alella is the smallest wine region in Cataluyna to gain coveted EU Denomination of Origen (D.O.) status...but for some reason it isn’t well known abroad. Our mission is to change that – don't miss out on this secret!

We will visit 2 carefully-selected vineyards (the region's best and most popular, where depending on the day we might might tour with other guests, and a beautiful family-run bodega we work with exclusively), and devour a home-style, traditional Catalan lunch. By the end of the tour, you'll have learnt much about the region, its unique geological properties, and our special pansa blanca grape, accompanied by a charismatic, informed, private guide.

For private groups of 3-6 guests.

Craft Beer & Tapas Tour with The Barcelona Taste

Beer tour or tapas tour? We've combined the best of both for you!
On this 3 hour tour we visit 3 different establishments, each within an easy 10-15 minute stroll. Our stops are hidden gems of restaurants and brewpubs that make their own beer as well as some truly exceptional tapas and desserts.
You'll taste a minimum 6 different beers, from hoppy IPAs, pale ales and fruited kettle sours, to Belgian-style beers with a twist...and more! You'll enjoy a full tapas meal at our second stop, and see inside their small craft brewery. To end the evening, you’ll taste an exceptional dark beer that goes wonderfully with a dessert we will have ready for you at our final destination. The tour ends at 9.30pm which means you will still have time to explore further (we have plenty of recommendation to offer) or to hunker down at the final stop to continue tasting.

If you are a beer lover but also want to taste some of Barcelona’s best food, this is definitely the tour for you!

The first food tour that I ever took (years ago) was through The Barcelona Taste and I was hooked. Because of this, I was quick to book another one with them on this return trip to Barcelona, this time with friends. The tour did not disappoint! We had food across the spectrum, from historic and traditional to modern. Everything was delicious! One member of our group was vegetarian and our guide was careful to make sure that there was plenty for her to eat and lots of our dishes put the meat on the side so that we could all enjoy them. This tour was something that we continued to talk about for the rest of our trip. The best part of the tour was our guide Lorea. She was lovely to spend the evening with. She clearly loves food and shared that love with us, but was also just fun to hang out with. She felt like a friend by the end of the evening. Lorea was even sweet enough to check in on us as COVID-19 became a crisis in the country, wanting to be sure that we were okay. I can’t recommend this company more!

We have been on two Gotico tours and they were each excellent. Excellent tour guides and excellent choices of places to stop on the tour. We learned about and greatly enjoyed the food, drink, sights and tour guide commentary on our stops, the tapas, Barcelona and Spain. A few months ago we scheduled our third tour but this time the Poble Sec tour. However, we had to cancel and reschedule our visit to Barcelona and our TBT food tour because of the world wide COVID-19 outbreak. Michael provided outstanding support and insight into the Developing situation in Barcelona. After we decided to cancel, he provided excellent support in that process. We were very sad and disappointed that we could not make this visit to Barcelona and participate in the Poble Sec tour but we will make it.

Thanks so much for taking time to leave this review. It’s alarming what we are all living through, but I know one day things will return to some sort of normal - and when it does we can’t wait to have you back for your three-peat!! Take care and we remain in touch. -Michael

This was my first time doing a food tour and it really exceeded my expectations. The restaurants we went to were all great and our guide, Anna, was very fun to be with and also very knowledgeable about all things Barcelona and Spanish food. The group was very satisfied by the end of it. In every restaurant we went to, we were given around five different dishes to try and got to pick whatever drinks we wanted. It was all so very tasty. Although I had food restrictions (pork, crustaceans, and shellfish), they were able to accommodate and I still very much enjoyed the whole experience. Would definitely recommend this experience to anyone!

We were unsure of whether to cancel our reservation because Gloria was peaking in Barcelona on Tues 21st of January. We are so glad we did! We were kind of bummed to about having arrived during such awful weather. Tito altered the itinerary so we'd have less distance between venues, and though we got soaked in the pelting rain on each leg, with Tito's good humor it ended up just making the food adventure more memorable. Tito gave us a succinct explanation of each restaurants history and style, as well as each dish - which were varied, authentic, characteristic, and... WOW! Basque Pincho Bar, Catalan Tapas, and a Desert venue. Lots of delicious fresh seafood. The red sauce on potatoes SUBLIME – a traditional recipe, passed down from grandmama, each family a little different. The calamari was incredibly tender, a texture almost like a hard cheese, not rubbery like so much that you get. Tito was also very willing and able to expand the conversation into broader topics of Spanish history, culture, politics - all the stuff we love to get grounded in on the first few days of a visit to a new country. We'd been kind of bummed about arriving after a long sunny period, and before another, into an 40 year storm. But after this evening we were clear that we could still do amazing things in this great old city, sun or no.

Thank you so much for such a lovely review! We are really pleased you didn't cancel - and that you had a good evening despite the epic downpours!! Next time you'll almost certainly catch us in the lovely sunny weather we usually enjoy here... Until then, if you find yourself missing it, look out for brava sauce and romesco sauce in the speciality food shops back home. Safe travels and happy eating!!

3 ½ stars from me. We’d booked for a Friday evening (27th Dec) but, because we were the only ones interested in that date we were asked if we wanted to move it to the following day to join up with a couple of other groups. We were happy to do that as we had no other plans for the Saturday, and I like the opportunity to get to know people I would never otherwise meet over some food and drink. Our on-line contact, Michael handled this brilliantly, making it clear we could stick with the Friday if we preferred, and providing us with some restaurant suggestions for the Friday night which proved to be excellent. So far, so brilliant. The food tour itself, however, left me a little disappointed. Other attendees on the night, two couples from different parts of the US, were engaging company and conversation flowed readily. It was perhaps for this reason, or a bout of Xmas fatigue, that our guide, while always courteous and helpful, took too much of a backseat in my opinion. While they did provide a little background on some of the food itself there was no commentary on the history of the Barcelona, the Gothic Quarter or any of the establishments we visited, and they seemed to serve little purpose other than to escort us between the three locations. This was a stark contrast to other food tours we have been on that were far more informative. Alcohol was a little thin on the ground as well given the price we paid (something I would have probably overlooked had our guide been more engaging). Overall the reviews for Barcelona Taste are excellent, and the service we received from Michael matched that. I suspect we just caught our guide on an off night.

Thanks for your review and for coming along last weekend! I’m sorry to hear you weren’t 100% satisfied with your tour, that really disappoints us... We pride ourselves on having built our tours around the idea of passing an evening with a guide and other guests in a way that feels more like dinner out with friends of friends than a more traditional city tour, and if there wasn’t enough chat to leave you coming away with that feeling, then we’re sorry we let you down. We will of course discuss this as a team and strive to do better on all future outings. I hope you’ll give us another try in future! Until then, safe travels & happy eating!
