Based on recommendations from TripAdvisor reviews, we used Barcelona Day tours for our airport pickup, their full day private tour to Cava region and Montserrat, a reservation for dinner and Flamenco, and a 5 hour private tour of Barcelona with drop off at our cruise ship during our 2 night stay in Barcelona. We also used them for a tour from Malaga to Granada to see the Alhambra but you’ll find a separate review of that. They were ready for us upon arrival in Barcelona although our flight was a little early. Although the driver didn’t speak English, he was great about helping us with our luggage and getting us promptly but safely to our hotel. The first night we attended the Flamenco early dinner and show which was right on Las Ramblas. The dinner was very good with unlimited beverages. After dinner we moved into the show, where we could take one drink, and where they gave us a glass of Cava. The dancers and musicians were amazing and the show was great. The only disappointment was our seats. Although they were in the middle, they were in the 3rd row and it was hard to see the dancers feet.
The next day we were met at our hotel on time by our guide/driver who would be with us the following day as well. The car we were in was very comfortable and safe and our driver did an excellent job. We headed straight to the Freixenet factory for our Cava tour and tasting. He provided commentary and information as we traveled out. The factory tour was led by folks from the company, and it was very informative. We were able to taste some Cava for free but had to buy additional glasses, which wasn’t a problem at all as it allowed you to try what you wanted. We then had time to pick up some bottles in the gift shop before heading to Montserrat. Montserrat was very crowded when we got there. Our guide offered to take us on a tour but said we could see it on our own, which we chose to do. He made some recommendations to us on which cable cars to see. Unfortunately, the choir did not sing on the day we were there, but we took the car to the top of the mountain which presented an amazing view. We decided against doing too much hiking because we didn’t have the right walking shoes. We then went into the cathedral. I highly recommend this tour as Montserrat is just amazing. In fact, we probably would have like to spend more time in Montserrat. Had we known that, and had I had my cell phone with me so I could contact the driver, I’m sure he would have given us more time.
On our last day, we did the 4 hour city tour and added an hour because there were some other sites we wanted to see that weren’t included in the standard tour (of Santa Maria Del Mar, Da La Merce, Sant Pau Del Camp, Royal Palace, Casa Mila, Mirador De Colon ) . Our guide was a little late picking us up because there was an unexpected marathon running through the town; however, he contacted the hotel who informed us about this. We were very happy with the tour and the guides knowledge of all the sites in town. Again, he gave us a choice if we wanted him to accompany us or if we wanted to do the interiors of the sites on our own and we chose to do them on our own. He provided an introduction to each site and what we should look for within the site. Throughout the tour, he talked about the different aspects of the city and spoke very good English. Due to the street closures from the marathon, he had to work very hard to get us to all the sites we wanted to see but he successfully did.
We would highly recommend Barcelona Day tours and will use them again on future visits. The staff communicated very well and was very flexible to addressing all our needs. The prices of private tours can be high, but we found with Barcelona Day Tours the value of having a personal tour outweighs the cost.
