The area

Neighborhood: Eixample
Passing through the glorious Plaça Catalunya, you enter the newer city district of Eixample, literally translated as “extension,” which immediately becomes recognizable by its more spacious streets and elegant atmosphere. The main artery of this sizable district, Passeig de Gracia, is lined with high-end international designer stores. Not to be outdone, the glitz and glamour of this zone is perhaps best exemplified by the comfortable and lavish five-star hotels that flank the divine and modernistic buildings from some of the world’s most recognized architects such as Gaudi and Montaner.

This monument in Plaza de Catalunya stands in tribute to Francesc Masia, the first President of the Generalitat de Catalunya and Catalan Nationalist. This monument is the work of Josep Maria Soberachs and can be divided into two parts. There is a simple bust of Francesc Masia. The there is an abstract sculpture of an inverted staircase, symbolising the step by step building of the Catalonia, which I found very confusing.

Okay if you admire Catalan Nationalism or in the area, otherwise don’t go out of the way.

A very interesting sculpture (representing never ending stairs, symbolising the regions struggles) dedicated to the first president of Catalonia, Francesca Macia.

This is a very large monument that stands to one side of the Plaza de Cataluna. It's in honor of Francesc Macià, who was the first President of Catalonia (in the 1930's). I didn't completely understand the symbolism, but apparently the unfinished staircase represents the ongoing history of the region. The monument is impressive; probably not worth a special trip but as Plaza de Cataluna is so central to tourism in Barcelona, you are likely to run across it.

This is a monument to the first president of the governement of Catalonia, it is built in the modern style, which is a welcome contrast in a city full of gothic masterpieces .

it is very close to the Hard Rock Cafe if you fancy combining the two

Located in the Plaza de Catalunya, this statue is next to the Hard Rock Cafe. There's really nothing interesting about it, but you can't miss it...

2 very different styles of sculpture for the monument to Macia , a Catalan nationalist and politician , a plain white female figure and a brutally apt set of stairs to signify the Catalan nations steps to freedom , not sure personally what I thought of it but it made me want to find out.

Monumento Francesc Masia is a very interesting sculpture in Plaza de Cataluña. It honours one of the greatest sons of Cataluna and it symbolises its history, particularly its future, which is uncertain; and this uncertainty is represented by the unfinished steps of the sculpture. This is a very powerful statement and is a definite must see sight. The Plaza itself is the nerve centre of Barcelona and is a beautiful setting for an outing.

It is located at Plaza Catalunya and was inaugurated in 1991.

The abstract statue consists of a bronze bust of Masia in front of an inverted concrete staircase.

A large piece of art over a pool. The white marble kneeling woman is prettier. It's located in Plaça de Catalunya. There are numerous statues located in the area.

This monument has a very prominent position, but isn't all that popular. If you are in the Plaza it is worth seeing but it is nothing that exciting.
