We were the only people in the entire museum. The attendant was not at his desk when we arrived. We waited a bit and then walked in. We saw him a few minutes later coming out of the elevator and he seemed annoyed at our presence.
Everything is in Spanish only so definitely not tourist friendly.
This is not Columbus’ house.
The exhibits are mostly maps and text on the walls. Some replicas of the old letters are so enlarged that they are impossible to read.
The museum feels like you are reading a book posted on the plain plastered walls. If i wanted to read a book, I would do it at home in English while sitting down.
You can see the place where Columns died but otherwise it’s a waste of time.

This is a great museum in Valladolid. Staff at the reception is very nice, one of the guys explained to me the history of this museum. It is a great place to get to know the life and enterprises of Christopher Columbus and his four trips to America. I really like the fact that it shows an objective perspective of Columbus, neither the black legend, nor the idealistic view of the Conquistador.

This museum looks like it is very well put together but sure how would we know, there is not even a pamphlet in English- have never really come by this problem before, is English not the language agreed on in the EU??

This is a really nicely curated collection with some fascinating documents and maps but we struggled to extract as much from the visit as we would have liked because the information is only available in Spanish. But even with a limited vocabulary (and google translate) we managed to learn a lot and were left wanting more.
This is a good visit even if you don't speak much Spanish.

I expected much less and the place was full with intriguing content exhibited in a modern, exciting and well planned manner.
Not much information in English though, I was very lucky to have a local friend with me

I visited this museum in mid-June 2015 and found it to be really excellent. It is spread over 4 floors, whereby (very roughly) each floor covers one of the 4 voyages undertaken by Christopher Columbus. This approach is very successful, in that the visitor can focus with clarity on each voyage in turn. The museum offers static and multi-media displays which explain the life of Columbus and the background to each voyage. The only drawback is that you really need to have a good working knowledge of Spanish in order to get the best out of the exhibits. Overall, this is a most interesting, colourful, and well organised museum which is definitely worth a visit. The entrance fee is a mere 2 euros each, and only one euro (70p) for students and older people. That is incredibly good value for money!! Highly recommended, especially if you have a good knowledge of Spanish.

Unique museum in the old home of Christopher Columbus. Only down fall is that all info and video is in Spanish, and seeing as my Spanish is limited, most of it was difficult to understand completely. Beautiful space and great collection though.

Despite all this being in Spanish I thought this was an excellent museum which really told the story. We spent a couple of hours here and were impressed.

I agree with Ropongi's review on here. There were very few actual artifacts. I had very little time in Valladollid, but I wanted to see this museum. Knowing they take their afternoon siesta from 2 - 5 PM, I hustled to the museum to get there by 1:20 so I would have 40 minutes to see the displays. The staff argued with me for five minutes, trying to convince me to come back another time. They were not listening to my saying I wanted to see it now in the little time I had. Reluctantly, they took my two euro. If I had known I could see the whole museum in about five minutes, maybe I would have taken the time to argue for 15 more minutes, explaining that I already knew from my reading that they close at 2 and reopen at 5. I did not want to come back three and a half hours later. I wanted to see the museum now. I really do not understand the difficulty in accepting my two euro with the understanding that I would be out of there before 2 PM. Were they worried their siesta would not start on time?
