The Columbus Monument is located just outside the train station at the corner of Paseo de Filipinos. The sculptor of the statue of Columbus was Antonio Susillo, of Seville. The statue of Columbus looks towards the New World and is guided by the statue of Faith. Both statues are on top of a globe, with a lion underneath the globe. These are flanked by four nude statues of allegorical characters. The monument was going to be sent to Havana, Cuba, for the 400th anniversary of the discovery of America at the end of the 19th century, but the Spanish American War of 1898 ended with Cuba getting its independence. Spain decided to keep the monument for Valladolid, where Columbus died.

Just a beautiful monument, nothing special. I like it in the day time better. You can go walk pass by it when you go to La rambla.

This is one of the monuments dedicated to Christopher Columbus. It was built in 1892, in the 300 anniversary of the arrival of Columbus in the New World.
The statue represents Columbus and behind the allegory of faith.

Of course a statue of Columbus/Colon. Beautifully executed, but note the images which inevitably fail to portray his treatment of the native peoples, or the fact that he thought he’d found India! Somehow he ended up a hero!

The Columbus Monument is very large and the sculptures at the monument are very impressive and beautiful. The monument is located very near to the railroad station and one can walk to it from downtown.

The Columbus monument in Valladolid is worth a photo if you're in the area. If you arrive by train, it's only a short walk away.

Visiting the Columbus monument was like going back in time when the relatively modern seamen conquering the ocean crossing the endless water in finding new worlds. The 14th and 15th centuries was a an era with modern navigation conpared to our ancient men when were out of Africa to spread to the rest of of the world up to Americas and Ocenia. Columbus would be known as great modern seaman crossing the ocean. Anyway the monument in Barca privide strong presence at round about at the marina harbour of the Barcelona city. Good to see the place in the early morning when the place was still quiet and clear.

There are a lot of Columbus monuments around Spain and compared to them it was a bit disappointing. It's big and bulky and lacks the finese that other Columbus monuments have. Behind it is suppose to be a fountain but it wasn't operating on the day we were there so that probably added to the disapointment.

Great monument located at one end of the Campo Grande Park, of great beauty and worthy of being admired and photographed, in honor of Columbus.
