Really Large Building
Dec 2019
The front is quite inspiring, in line with the great cathedrals of Spain. The rest of the building, not so much, although it’s great size is something to behold. Apparently, it isn’t easy to get in, unless a service is taking place. So, you will have to enjoy the building, on this blue sky day, from the outside.

Tower worth seeing
Nov 2019
Not half as ornate as many cathedrals and apparently only 40% completed from original design but definitely worth a visit. I found it a bit dark inside and most of the chapels are in darkness unless you put money into a slot to illuminate them, so make sure you have lots of 50 cent pieces. The tower trip is €6 and only available at ceraptain times of the day. I was lucky enough to be the only person on the tour and the knowledgeable guide gave me the talk in English. You don't need to climb the 70 metres up as there is a lift which has glass sides. Probably not one if you hate heights. I only managed to get up as far as the bells and couldn't face climbing the remaining stairs to the top of the tower, but the views from the bells were enough for me.
The small museum €3 is worth a visit. I found I treat her creepy as I as on my own in there and the life size statues in the alcoves looked ready to come to life! But still worth seeing. However, it doesn't compare to the fabulous sculpture musuem at the college of San gregorio, which really is a must see.

Unusual cathedral
Oct 2019 • Couples
Not an old cathedral, and far less ornate than many I have visited in Spain; parts of the interior are almost austere. Also relatively small with fewer chapels than many large churches. Beautiful nonetheless. Access to the tower and a view over the town is at a cost and on timed tours, so you need to check inside when the next will be.
Overheard one weary traveller telling her husband who clearly wanted to go up ‘you’ll just see everything we’ve already seen, just from higher up’!

Valladolid Cathedral, Spain
Apr 2019 • Friends
This impressive and huge Renaissance building was initially planned as the Cathedral for the capital city of Spain during the late 15th century and early 16th century, Valladolid. The cathedral that was planned would have been the largest in Europe. Even though the cathedral is unfinished it is remarkable and beautiful. The inside is amazing and there is even a museum. From the top you can see spectacular panoramic views of one of the most monumental cities in Europe.

Beautiful Cathedral!
Jun 2019 • Solo
This is a beautiful cathedral. It is austere church designed by the famous architect Juan de Herrera (the same one that built El Escorial). The altarpiece was designed by another famous artist, Juan de Juni.
The entrance is free. It is opened just before mass at 5.40 p.m.

Guided tour of tower is spectacular
Apr 2019 • Friends
Take the guided tour of the tower (6 euros, 5 if you are old). They take you to the top by elevator, including climbing a couple flights of stairs. The history is interesting, and you see how the bells are rung and the clocks are synchronized. But the best part is the view from the top, where you can go outside and look in all directions over Valladolid. You buy the tickets either in the cathedral itself (not that interesting inside) or at the tourist office in Campo Grande a 12-minute walk away.

Interesting Cathedral but excellent Museum
Oct 2017 • Couples
The unfinished Cathedral is vast but austere. The Diocesan Museum attached is very good indeed, with a wide range of religious artefacts, mostly pictures and statues but some textiles, from the 15th to the 18th centuries, with some sculpture and sarcophagi dating back to the 12th century. The condition of the exhibits was outstanding. We were particularly impressed by the Museum’s very early (c1600) clavichord.

Entry to the Cathedral is free, but the Museum is €3 a person - a bargain. Signage and descriptions are exclusively in Spanish, so take a phrase book if you don’t know the language.

An Interesting Church
Sep 2017 • Couples
The Cathedral does not look very beautiful from the outside. However the inside has a very good museum and there is plenty of good art here that is quite impressive. When we were in the church a flutist was practicing with a piano player for a concert. So we enjoyed their music.

The unfinished cathedral of Valladolid
Oct 2016
The people of Valladolid seem to be proud of the fact that it never was finished and the original plan can never be done as ancient ruins were found behind it. In contrast to many opulent cathedrals in Europe, this one is austere with almost no statues nor decoration. It was made in a time when the rulers were pushing austerity. There is a lovely tour of the tower (thankfully with elevators) and you can shoot magnificent views from up above.
