We stayed in the nearby Hospes Palacio and Plaza de Anaya is close by. However, If you have been walking on Gran Via and are making your way up towards the cathedrals then you will very likely come upon this quaint plaza and the surrounding streets. The masonry work is outstanding but at night with illumination coming from all parts it takes on a wholly different perspective. In fact Salamanca by night is quite a different experience to the city by day.

Plaza de Anaya is a fairly large public square in the heart of the Historic Centre of Salamanca. This is where you find the Salamanca Cathedral complex as well as some of the University of Salamanca buildings including Anaya Palace and St. Stephen's Church. The plaza includes good landscaping, mature trees, flower beds and statue of Padre Camara.

It is a nice spot to enjoy viewing Plateresque architecture of the New Cathedral and Neo-Classical facade of the Anaya Palace. We enjoyed walking around the square viewing the attractive historic buildings here during the day with blue skies as well as at night when the buildings are lit up with flood lights.

One of the larger plazas in the university area of Salamanca, the plaza offers a great place to relax and check out the beautiful facades and planning. One the most interesting planting is a Sequoia Treed from California and one of the most interesting facades is the to the cathedral. If you are looking for a rewarding hunt, see if you can find and astronaut and a gargoyle licking an ice cream cone in the repaired facia surrounding the entry door on the left side.

Got to be honest, as points of interest go in Salamanca this is fairly low key and somewhere you are bound to pass through at some stage, probably when visiting the cathedral looking for astronauts.

This plaza is a patch of greenery in front of the entrance to the new Cathedral on one side, and San Sebastián Church, on the other. This is not a destination point but rather a mere access venue.

If you have been walking on Gran Via and are making your way up towards the cathedrals then you will very likely come upon Plaza de Anaya. It is a lovely open area or plaza and surrounded by excellent views. The sandstone masonry work is outstanding but at night with illumination coming from all parts it takes on a wholly different perspective. In fact Salamanca by night is quite a different experience to the city by day.

A typical Spanish square across the cathedral surrounded by historic buildings, gardens and walkways. It is filled with students rushing to class or just hangin out. The best way to enjoy this square is to sit and enjoy the surrounding scenery and feel the ambiance. Plenty of shops and cafes nearby. I give this my GoldAdvice seal of approval.

In Salamanca there are dozens of small plazas and this one is one of the largest and most open. Surrounded by majestic architecture it has a lovely garden in the center. One of the streets leading to the plaza is a cafe paradise.
