The exterior is decorated with shells and is unique. The building is used as a library. The building is a great place to walk place to view on your walk.

Exterior façade is very interesting. Interior court yard had great energy. Children like to play on top of the well.

This facade is also known as Casa de Conches, the house of shells. It is quite magnificent to look at from the outside and sits opposite one of the many university buildings in the historic area of the city. We didn’t venture inside on this occasion, just marvelled at the quality of stone masonry outside.

Great decoration of Shells on the external facades and on the details in the Internal Courtyard. Able to see the Rotunda of the University building from here - god photo opportunity. Able to glimpse into the library and see the plain modern and highly functional interior. Always good to see an old building given a new lease of live sympathetically.

We only had time to do a "walk by" of this former private dwelling of some very wealthy people--now a library. The shells (hence the local name--shell house) is really a masterful job of architecture detail and stone carving. It is on the road to everything you want to see in the city and is worth a stop to look at it. From what we read about it, we will make time to get inside on the next trip!
