You pay 5.5euro with earphones in order to hear an English version of the tour. But you cannot hear much as the speakers above our heads were blearing with Spanish. And to many families the train was a fun ride for noisy kids. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY.

We enjoyed the Salamance Tourist Train. The train is comfy enough and it takes your around the old buildings of Salamanca near the Cathedral area. In Sept 2019 it cost us 4.5 euros per adult (about $5). After paying it left in about 15 minutes and quickly snakes around many old buildings and gives quick explanations of what the buildings are. Spanish is broadcast on the overhead speaker; several other languages are available via headset but you must bring your own headset, they did not provide them. We had them in our backpacks so that helped. The english was clear and easy to hear. The ride was between 20-30 minutes (didn't time it) and we saw stuff we had missed when we walked around so that was nice. You don't stop anywhere to get off/on or pictures & the explanations are short so you have to listen carefully. We recommend it.

We bought our tickets and were told the train would leave in 10-15mins. The train did not leave for at least 40mins and the tour took only 20mins not the advertised 30mins. The commentary is in Spanish only, however, it advertises for different languages. Instead if you request it, you will receive a sheet of paper written in your preferred language.

Only 3 euros and about 30 minutes long....interpretation sheets in English. It was OK and you travelled around a few parts of the City and down to the Bridge but really we could have walked it! Not quite as good as 'The Little Trains' in other cities.... Certainly worth it if you want a bit of a break from walking.

Every city we visit we do - if available - one or more free walking tours. Often we also book a hop on/hop off bus, to expłore the wider area. Salamanca has neither. The only thing that the city centre offers is the tourist train, which makes sense since the centre is not accesible for cars. The centre is full of places to visit, history, architecture, stories which could make a guided visit so interesting and exciting. What a shame that the only guided tour we found was such a missed opportunity ! An unfriendly, bored attendant at the ticket booth was fortunately compensated by a friendly guide on board the train. Unfortunately the odds were not in his favour. Surrounding noises and a family with children behind us made the tour info not understandable. So many things to comment, on such a small area' in a moving train, well it’s just mission impossible ! Perhaps issuing headphones and using the onboard PA system would be a good idea. Either way, if you can find a guided walking tour, book it, and leave the tourist train for what it is ; a train ride, nothing more.
