Plaza de Mío Cid is a central square built in honour of Castilian and Spanish hero, Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar or El Cid Campeador as he is commonly known. The plaza is dominated by a huge bronze equestrian statue of El Cid, designed and sculpted by Juan Cristóbal in 1955.
I’m not sure why this area is called a plaza, as it’s mainly a road junction. Certainly not somewhere you would stand around unless you want to get hit by moving vehicles. The most significant building is probably the Teatro Principal de Burgos, but other than that it's mostly office blocks and certainly not much like a traditional Spanish public square.
There’s a bridge nearby, which has a statue of Doña Jimena, the wife of El Cid, Diego Rodriguez, their son and Martín Antolinez, a comrade of El CId.

The statue of El Cid, astride his horse and with sword raised high is monumental in style and impressive in situ. It sits in the middle of a busy square just off the main city centre junction and close to Plaza Major.
But it's a statue. There's no commentary. No bells and whistles. Admire and remember the classic story. And then move on to the rest of the city's memorials to history.

El Cid is a legendary Spanish military hero from the 11th century, he was a born in a town close to Burgos and is immortalised in history and in statue. It is a very impressive statue which can be found in Plaza de Mio Cid close to Puente de San Pablo which crosses over the Rio Arianzon.

Only highlight I can think of is the El Cid landmark statue. Otherwise the square is open to traffic. Nonetheless, you cannot visit Burgos and not having a selfie with Cid.

Though the statue of El Cid on horseback with the sword is impressive, the plaza is not. It consists of only the statue surrounded by heavy and noisy traffic of cars trying to get over the bridge.

Busy but a great statue of El Cid and lovely view of the theatre. Visit the inside if you can as it's jolly pretty.

Burgos is the city of El CID. This is the best statue I've seen of him and it's a natural photo op. The plaza is often full but there are coffee shops to sit and linger.

The bronze statue of El Cid was created by the artist Juan Cristobal Gonzalez Quesada in 1955. It is quite impressive and beautiful and is in the center of downtown, where everyone can see it.

Long story behind him; very well known in Spain as he was a military leader in the medieval Spain.
Rodrigo Diaz de Vivar was his real name.
Shame that the statue is in a roundabout in the middle of a transited road.

Well worth the visit. But note it is in the middle of the road just past a bridge over a river. It can be quite busy and tricky to get an unobstructed view / photo. Afterwards go to the cathedral and see his grave and the museum for his sword. It's a lovely city.
