We took the train to Toledo from Madrid for the day and walked to Zocodover Plaza. There were lots of groups waiting to start walking tours and even though we hadn’t registered, we joined an English speaking tour with Estefania. She took the 7 people in her group on a wonderful walk through the narrow, hilly streets of old Toledo. Such a great way to learn the history of a place and Toledo certainly has lots.

In Spanish, but I understood enough to make this well worthwhile. Diego Petal was an engaging and knowledgeable guide. Discovered things about Toledo I would never have discovered on my own. And walking the streets at night, when cooler and quieter, so much more comfortable!

We were lucky to be introduced to this local independent tour company by the Toledano owner of our holiday rental. They cater mainly to the Spanish speaking visitor but offer limited general tours in English as well as private guides. The director of the company is apparently a local author and the guides seem to have academic interests in the tour subjects as well as professional guiding experience.

We booked two two hour private tours at 80 euros per tour for the four of us. Our delightful guide Marta was engaging and knowledgeable and our kids really enjoyed learning from her. Tell them in advance what you want to see or what your interests are - they seem very responsive.

Would definitely recommend - we got to see all sorts of things that we would not otherwise have had access to or which would have simply passed us by. Finding your way around the winding streets of Toledo can also be challenging at first so having a guide was a real pleasure.

My family of 4 did the English free walking tour with Marta. She was very informative, personable, & pleasant. She is very interactive and knows Toledo very well and is passionate about her home city of Toledo.

Marta gave great insights into the history and cultural diversity of Toledo leaving you with a good understanding of the city, including her favorite picks.

At the end of the tour she was approachable as she assisted many of us about where to go for the best tapas & restaurants.

Thanks for your nice words. We largely know it's difficult for you to understand all our history in such a brief visit unless we work each day to make your visit more and more enjoyable to your eyes each days. We will hopefully offer in a future more English tours to make your interest on us bigger!

We had a first-rate 90 minute walking tour of Toledo led in English by Maria. She was botth knowledgeable and interesting. She provided us with an insightful introduction to the city that enabled us to wisely choose what sites to visit later in the day. Highly recommended.

May 2018 our family of five joined one of the free 11:00 am daily English walking tours. I RSVP'ed online a few weeks in advance, and even though the website says they may follow up to ask groups of 5 or more to pay $5 per person to reserve their space, I was never asked to pay anything. I just filled out the RSVP form on their website and received a confirmation email for our group. There was no second email requesting payment and when we arrived for the tour our names were all on the RSVP list but still no one requested payment. At the end of the tour we chose to tip 20 euros for our group, but I noticed that many people were not tipping which was disappointing because that's kind of how a "free" or "donation-based" tour works! And our guide was wonderful! We had Estaphanie / Stephanie who many others have reviewed on TripAdvisor. She's a top-notch guide, clear voice, loud enough but not yelling, wonderful English, and kept a perfect pace. It was a great 1.5 hour overview of the major sites and bullet-point history of a city that has so much history it's hard to narrow down! (Just check Toledo's Wikipedia page - it's practically War and Peace!) Toledo is a very curvy, hilly city, but there were really only one or two steep/uphill parts of the tour and they were doable even for the older people in our group. There were about 15 or so people in our group. Maybe 30-40 people showed up for the 11 am tour but the company smartly divided us up into 3 different groups each with a different guide and somewhat varied route so we were not all trying to walk down the same narrow streets at once.

Pro tip - only a couple minutes from the Zocodover square where you meet to start the tour, there is a Viandas de Salamanca shop where you can get delicious jamon or chorizo breakfast or lunch sandwiches ("bocadillos") for only a few euros each. Our family took the 9:20 am train from Madrid, arrived Toledo at 9:53 am, walked from the train station across the river via one of the famous Roman bridges, walked, up up to the top of Toledo (that part is steep!), took one wrong turn, but still arrived at Viandas de Salamanca by 10:30am, in time for us to all grab sandwiches and even have a beer at the bar nextdoor (which kindly let us sit outside at the bars' tables to eat our sandwiches from the other shop and use their very clean bathrooms), then it was only a 3 minute walk to Zocodover Square to meet and start the tour at 11am. (I alone ran over to Zocodover at 10:45am just to check us all in with the CuentaMe guides, who were already there, then went back to Viandas to finish my brew and sandwich - everything was so close together!)

Thank you so much Ashley for your comment and assessment. We are delighted that you have enjoyed the route and the job of our collegue Estefanía. As you have said, one of the politics of our enterprise is not overcharge groups to make easier the experience and for your comfort. We hope the rest of the visit to the city have been interesting for you too. Regards.

The tour sounded appealing, but our guide Marina had a negative effect on the experience for English speakers. Her English was heavily accented and she spoke extremely fast. Consequently, even those of us who are good with accents and dialects only understood about 35% of what she said. The Aussies seem to have an especially hard time. Lots of folks bailed-out before the tour ended.

Dear friend, Thank you for your opinion so we write it down to improve ourselves. Our guide, Marina, is an excellent professional with an acceptable level of English and an evidently spanish accent. We understand that when one is up to travelling a person should be opened to the different accents and pronunciation of the local guides and put a bit of effort, that we are sure you did, on the understanding. Evidently, Marina, has accepted her critics and admits that it is possible that because of wanting to tell a lot she started to speak more than quick. She will try to speak from now on, a bit slower. Again, thank you for your opinion. Regards from Cuéntame Toledo
