The place serves as a youth hostel and visitors are not allowed. However, you can take some good pics from outside. If you are close to the Alcántara Bridge and have some time give it a try.

We only were able to see this from a distance as we drove around Toledo. We took a picture from the Alcantara Bridge as it looked amazing. Would have loved to visited. Next time.

Good views of this Castillo from Alcântara Bridge and seemed worth exploring further.
However, we were advised that it is now a Hotel/Hostal and tourists/visitors are not welcome nor allowed entry.
We guessed that too many visitors would be considered detrimental to the comfort of their paying guests.

This was a crushing disappointment. The castle is totally closed to tourists. I called them on the intercom at their gate and they wouldn't let me in: "No tours! Only guests allowed. We are a hotel and a hostel". I asked them if they would make an exception since I had travelled so far and they gave me an emphatic no.

DO NOT GO HERE. IT IS CLOSED. THEY DO NOT ALLOW TOURISTS. I confirmed this with both a person over the castle's gate intercom and also with a staff member that was standing there.

The smaller castle across the river is very nice and had to be strategically very important to protecting the city. The tour operator said it guarded one of the two ways into the city. Very cool.

If the architecture of this Templar Monastery/fortress on the Tagus seems familiar, it is because it is prominently portrayed in El Greco's masterpiece "Skyline of Toledo" No entry, now a hostel.

The castle is very beautiful but not so beautiful inside, I went on a study trip one night and it is supposed to be a youth castle but just because we are teenagers they have discriminated against us and treated us terribly. They have the heating on full blast and it was not pleasant being there because you couldn't sleep. We haven't made any noise and there were even sensors to check if you left the room after 11:30 p.m. because if not, the security guards would run in to scold you and treat you terribly.
If you are disabled or have some motor difficulty, it is impossible to stay there because of the stairs and no elevator.
The floor of the room was super dirty, even with dead spiders, I'll post a photo.
And you have to shower because you can't get there because of how bad they were in terms of size and cleanliness.
