Iconis appearance. Now a Military museum. I am nt a museum enthhusiat but this is very informatiive and interesting
Sadly the old building was extremely damaged in the Civil War, but the shell has been rebuilt, enclosing the original. a good display of field guns and tanks is on the terrace where ther is a good restaurant.

Usually traveling in Spain, people visit Madrid, Barcellona, Sevilla, etc...... Do not forget, in Castiglia Region, to visit the enchanting Toledo, the old capital of Spain, a beautiful and medieval city near Madrid, simply to arrive from Atocha Station.

Go up the lift to the cafeteria, have a cold drink and admire the best views in Toledo. There are windows on 3 sides allowing a view of all the main historic buildings. Don’t miss it. It is joined to the military museum but entrance is at opposite end.

Located high on the hill overlooking Toledo, this largely reconstructed building is still impressive. The museum itself is entered from one of the streets below and the exhibits are on the various levels of the Alcazar - accessed via steps, or elevator.
The view from the turrets is excellent and the small restaurant and gardens are a pleasant stop to refresh and revitalise!
The facility is closed on Mondays, as well as various Spanish holidays; the website provides dates as well as a wealth of other useful information.

Two structures dominate Toledo's skyline as you approach the city from below: The Alcázar of Toledo and the spire of the Cathedral of St. Mary. The Cathedral (the lower of the two landmarks) dates to the 13th Century and is basically intact, along with the modifications since the 13th Century. The Alcazar's impressive building (originally a castle) now a library/museum dates to the 16th Century, but had to be rebuilt after being nearly destroyed in the Spanish Civil War. The "basement" of the Alcazar houses remains of the original castle, and I was told, what may be remnants of a 3rd Century Roman fort that first occupied the hill.
The museum has a great collection of early armour, etc., the highlight of my visit was the view fro the top of the building. You can see all of Toledo and the valleys that surround the city.

This place offers you the best views of Toledo for FREE. Take the lift to the "cafeteria" level for stunning views, enjoy a coffee and snacks. Popular with locals, a real gem.

We scheduled our trip in part on the basis that this attraction. We arrived to find that it was closed for repairs. Worse it took us some time to figure out it was closed because there was not even a sign that suggested it was closed. Obviously the work had been scheduled for some time -- can we at least make a sign?

This was the last place I visited when I went on a day trip to Toledo. It was already around 1800 hrs and my train ride was at 1900 hrs, so I decided to take a quick look. Unfortunately, the museum was already closed, so the guards there just told me to check out the top floor for refreshments and a surprise.
Even if I had wanted to see the numerous military objects housed in this building, I was still happy to have gone at that time of the night because it gave me an amazing view of the city! i was able to see the skyline of Toledo on two windows. Part of the view was seeing the Christmas lights in Plaza Zocodover.
It was a good way to end the trip.
PS I visited this place in December 2011, not 2012. There was no option for 2011.

This building has a checkered history originally a palace dating from the Romans and having being completely destroyed during the Spanish Civil war. It has since within the last 70 years been sympathetically restored and now houses a military museum with uniforms and weapons from the Roman times to the present day. There are 4 floors and you will need a good few hours to take it all in. On the rooftop terrace there is a helicopter and Russian tank. It is a must for those of you with a military background or have an interest in military history. There is also a little cafe on the rooftop.

Por falta de tiempo quizá no pueda hacer la visita completa del alcázar pero me han insistido en que tengo que ver la fachada norte que es una maravilla. ¿Se puede ver sin necesidad de entrar al recinto?

No. Son lugares diferentes. Tienes que ingresar al edificio de la biblioteca y por ascensor a la cafetería. Es pequeña, peron con precios y vistas excelentes. No debes pagar nada si no consumes. Saludos.
