Picos, Potes & Soplao Cave

10 reviews
Travelers to northern Spain shouldn't miss a chance to experience the region's natural beauty. On this daylong tour from Santander, visitors are whisked to the Picos de Europa mountains, and Hermida Gorge. After a mountaintop photo opportunity, explore El Soplao Cave, and marvel at its natural rock formations. Along the way, visit a small village—Potes—and stop at a monastery housing the Lignum Crucis. Rejuvenate during the busy day with a traditional lunch, included in the tour price.

Fantastic, wide open space full of activities, nature and facilities. We visited Santander for a cheap get away for a few days and didn't want to spend alot on tours etc so this park ticked the box. Could easily spend a couple of hours wandering around the ponds. Walking distance from city centre but we took No1 bus from harbor for £1.30.

Whether you want to have a little walk or run around for some time, el Parque de las Llamas is the right choice for you! As far as I'm concerned, there's even a small playground for kids if you have any. The only thing I couldn't find was a nice place in the shade where you could sit and talk while not being bothered by the sun.

Ever since I live in the city, Las Llamas Park has been one of those places I usually go when I want to walk or roller-skate, or simply relax on a terrace over a beer or to have an ice-cream from the truck. From the architectural point of view, it's a great urban park, designed as a natural reservoir for an interesting variety of birds, mainly ducks, nesting in the swamp-like enviroment. Kids love to go feed them. It holds a nice venue, Escenario Santander, where there is a "vintage" flee market the first or second sunday every month, as well as concerts thruout the year, especially during the summer. There is a playground at one of the ends of the park that's really neat. Also, since it's just next to the Universidad de Cantabria, you might even get some free Wi-Fi from the University in the area, but keep it hush-hush..! All in all, a great place to visit and spend some time in under almost any weather condition.
