Visited here on a Monday so it was not overly crowded which was nice. There are lots of buses that service this area from the city centre. The walk along the promenade is also very nice but on a hot summer day with young children it was not advised. I didn’t see any deck chairs but in the toilets I think you can rent some lawn chairs but they seem dated. The toilets are kinda in the centre of the beach and cost 40 cents. Which is good to have facilities as a lot of the other beach had none. There are a few restaurants but that whole balcony area could do with some updating. Shame it looks a bit dilapidated. My fav beach is still plays matalenas. There’s also a lupa close by so good to pick food and drinks for the beach.

Huge sandy beach, clean sand, clean refreshing water. I went in October so didn't go swimming, but noticed the spots near the walls were taken by bathers first for shelter and shade.
Beautiful place and plenty of space for everyone.

Beautiful beach and in the lovely October weather it was easy to dream about going for a swim in the clean, clear waters. Can't wait to come back in the summer.

Fabulous beach, best we have ever been on. The sunrise is amazing. The weekend is very busy with the shoreline filled with beach clad people walking back and forth in their droves. A very 'fit' place to be.

What a wonderful beach! It must be a couple of kilometers long and wide as well. It’s almost the perfect place combining the city with a beach and you can walk everywhere. It’s very safe, clean and well marshalled with plenty of big waves to make it interesting. It is, however, the Atlantic not the Med so you get the cold shock that we are well used to in Ireland. It is also a wonderful morning walk from end to end. Beautiful.

Brilliantly maintained safe white sand beach that has something for everyone.. Apart from the glorious views overlooking this beach from. The adjoining walkways...this is a beach that offers something for everyone as well as pristine sand...nothing not to like.

It is well worth the trip to visit this beautiful sandy beach. If you are staying in the city, it is better to go by taxi rather than the bus unless you know how to navigate the rigmarole about getting a card which you top up. It is unclear if you can pay the driver in cash but we were refused and had to walk to the bus station to get a card. Having paid 7.50 euros we checked with a tourist office desk upstairs from the shop only to be told we'd bought the wrong card. We went back to the shop and the friendly assistant assured us it was correct and went upstairs herself yo renonstrate about giving tourists incorrect information. After all of this, and one hour later, we were on the bus to Sardinero! But when we tried to use the card again, it failed to work as it needed to be topped up. So... the message here is that a taxi is a lot quicker and cheaper than 7,50 euros for 2 people.
We suggest taking a taxi to the beach and walking back... mostly on the sand...

Right beside the park. Enough parking space(at least in low season), bars, toilets- so everything you could need during the beach time. In September the weather was not for water baths, so cannot comment the water.

This beach has showers and toilets is very clean and is in the best part of Santander. There are both good cheap and excellent but expensive bars and restaurants. A vendor sells English and other foreign newspapers right on the beachfront. There is a regular bus that goes to the city centre and beyond. (Don't forget to get your transfer ticket if you need another bus) It does not get crowded and the sea is usually calm making it safe for children.

Roughly , what can we expect to pay for a taxi from the port to the beach?
And are taxis readily available at the beach to take us back to our cruise ship ?
Written April 7, 2017
I would say 4-5 euros. And yes, there are cabs near the beach. Plenty of them by the Casino and by Feygon. There is also regular bus service.

are the beaches walking distance from the p&o cruise ship docking area?
and what sort of distance is it ?
Written January 22, 2017
No not really though a short taxi distance should not break the bank - about three miles
This is based on the berth of P&o being the same place as for Brittany Ferrries, I think it will be
Pleased to assist

Can you hire a sun lounger on the beach and if so does anyone know roughly the cost of this? Thanks
Written August 8, 2015
That is a good question, and we were there recently on our trip. Ours was more of a walking, hiking and driving trip, so we were on the go a lot but we did enjoy walking along this beach and sitting down to a gelato. I do know that there were a lot of people enjoying the relaxation of reclining in lounge chairs with parasols. I assume because of that there were lounge and parasol rentals there, but not sure. You may want to check with one of the hotels you are thinking of staying at to inquire for sure, and check on prices - I wouldn't imagine they would be too expensive to rent.... We stayed at the Gran Sardinero, located right across the street from the beach. We find hotel staff are usually very helpful answering any questions you may have, including parking, setting up tours at local museums, etc before or after booking. Playa Primera beach is spectacular the sand is so soft, clean, flat, and a spectacular golden color - the beach seems to go on forever, so it draws not only sunbathers but those just wanting to walk along the beach. There were sunbathers who also used towels to lie on the sand, some even st up their own umbrellas. Also, there are many restaurants close by, as well as restrooms - toilets, showers. The area consists of many beaches that connect together, another beach is Playa del Camello - perhaps check with this beach in the event Primera doesn't offer the lounge chairs. I hope this helps.
