Cabo Mayor Semaphore is a reminder of the Fiterra one in a smaller size it offers a beautiful sightseeing view on the Mouros Islands and as in Fisterra 260 degrees sea view. deligthed in early evening to watch the Sunset.

We often come up to the Cabo Mayor after shopping in Santander to get away from the city and feel like you're totally outdoors. Walking to the end of the peninsular is just fab, windswept and raw, with great views back over the city and its beaches. The art gallery is also a nice place to wander round, I've been back many times to see the sea paintings there, they're fantastic. The cafe up there is a bit shabby, but it has a terrace overlooking the cliffs and decent enough tapas.

Cabo Mayor Lighthouse is beautifully situated on a cliff of rocks towering directly above the ocean. The wind blows pretty hard on top of the cliff, but it's not so steep that you are afraid of falling off. This was the most peaceful place I visited in Spain. This is one of those places that you can really feel a sense of peace. Wonderful!

Great walk with amazing views! This should be a must!
I would suggest to walk either:
- from the stairs near the Hotel "El Chiqui" - a little bit longer but perfect if you have time
- take a bus stop at Mataleñas park and walk from there.

This park is full of abundant wildlife, breathtaking scenery and many interesting species of butterflies and birds. It's a highlight of Santander, and a good opportunity to be away from people yet not completely away. The rocks here are excellent for walkers, the altitude is impressive enough, and it's all spotlessly clean mostly. You should arrive here by carefully following the coastal footpath, not taking the roads. The footpath has spectacular scenery all along it, and a well-kept Edwardian garden along the way.

We started our Santander trip by visiting the lighthouse and walking around in the surrounding hills. You can have amazing views over the coastline and with good weather this is perfect for a picnick with friend. Surely recommendable to spend an hour there walking around and enjoying the view!

The walk to the Lighthouse had been recommended but we left this until last and when the weather turned to intermittent showers. But hey, we had umbrellas ... Eventually we found the path - don't go to the end of the promenade/esplanade - and off we set to walk up the coastal path. After a short while there is an opening into a park with a wonderful display of roses, as well as a view of the sea. We re-joined the coastal path at the end of that park, bracing but worthwhile glimpses of the rocks below, and then a bay in which several canoes were visiting. This led to the road and then around to the Parque itself and the ramble across to the head with some strategically well-placed (but now deserted) gun emplacements before climbing up to the lighthouse itself. Another viewpoint and then two 'discoveries'. The first is the Centro de Arte Faro Cabo Mayor which is an art gallery that is free to enter and has three collections: paintings on the theme of lighthouses; artefacts of all sorts on the same theme; focus on two/three local artists. Well worth the vsit - excellent views as well. The second is the El Faro, in which we took shelter from the rain and then enjoyed fresh rabas & beer, before walking back along the road down to Santander again when the rain eventually stopped.

I went there to catch the sunset and the peaceful moment is totally recommended. Also at that time of the evening is not crowded!

I felt this place was overrated. Drive up the hill or cab it. A little far to walk. Nobody stays long.

A rainy, misty day was right to visit this extraordinary place. Wonderful experience around Santander to relax.

How do you get here on transport from city centre

Opposite the town hall there's a bus stop along a main road. Cross the main road so you're on the other side of the town square, then take any bus that goes to Sardinero. Most buses will stop close by there. When you're approaching and you see the lighthouse, get off the bus.
