Picos, Potes & Soplao Cave

10 reviews
Travelers to northern Spain shouldn't miss a chance to experience the region's natural beauty. On this daylong tour from Santander, visitors are whisked to the Picos de Europa mountains, and Hermida Gorge. After a mountaintop photo opportunity, explore El Soplao Cave, and marvel at its natural rock formations. Along the way, visit a small village—Potes—and stop at a monastery housing the Lignum Crucis. Rejuvenate during the busy day with a traditional lunch, included in the tour price.

The last 3 trips I have attempted to take between Bilbao and sourthern Ireland have been cancelled. The summer 2019 trip was cancelled as they said there had been engine trouble on the boat. So, we drove all the way from the Algarve to northern France and were surprised to board the Connemara - the boat we were supposed to take from Santander. Now, they did give me, I believe, €300 to cover the extra 1000km drive. But, interestingly, they had returned that to my credit card some time before they even informed me of the cancellation of the trip?! The next trip was June this year. Cancelled re Covid. Fair enough. So I used that credit to book a trip from Santander to Rosslare this week. I called a couple of weeks ago to say I was taking a rescue dog with me to his new home in Ireland. I have 2 dogs of my own. They insisted I needed another dog friendly cabin - so I booked another cabin at a cost of €200. I was already paying c.€1k for the trip We left the Algarve at 9am this morning. I received a call from Brittany Ferries while driving for 3 or 4 hours to say the sailing for tomorrow had been cancelled due to bad weather. I have looked at the weather forecast and am wondering where the bad weather actually is? I would hope this is a genuine situation. The next booking they could give me they said was 10th December - there were no pet friendly cabins before that. There are other cabins - but it is their "policy" not to give those to dog users. Best to let them wait a week. The option was for us to drive back to the Algarve and redo Covid tests and vetinary checks before starting off again. So, I have chosen to do the northern French route - with 3 dogs. No dog friendly cabins - isn't it a pity I had to pay the extra €200 for 2 cabins on a trip that has never happened. My partner is furious - and wonders why I ever book with Brittany Ferries. I already have a booking - another €1k for a round trip next year. Do I really believe there will actually be a boat travelling from Bilbao or Santander to southern Ireland?? What will the excuse be next time? I am having real difficulty believing there will be. Something isn't right here. 3 bookings 3 cancellations. Be careful. My partner actually phoned them to check tomorrow's sailing really is cancelled. It is worrying when you actually feel you should do that.

+1
We booked a return sailing with a Deluxe 4 Berth Outside cabin on the 16.45 sailing. Ok, COVID-19 rules were in place so the trip is slightly diminished by the need for a face mask etc, but our cabin was superb, the service was excellent and the sailing went like clockwork. Staff were really friendly and helpful and overall it was a great way to start our Spanish adventure

Have travelled with BF on at least 4 separate occasions, between Spain / UK. On at least 3 occasions there were issues, these poor experiences are the result of a monopoly. A long delay at Bilbao departure,no compensation, once cancelled due to strike, no alternate offered, delayed out of Portsmouth coming out,no compensation offered, and this time cancelled at last minute by email,no alternate offered,no help to return to UK,now left stuck in Spain. No refund, they are in breach of their booking T&Cs that I have, and have refused to refund my £340. They are not answering phone calls, and send standard corporate unhelpful emails. Customer care on each issue was poor, crossings delayed and tiny cabins with huge prices !
