Must go for the mummies
Oct 2020 • Couples
I went to this museum because I heard about the mummified guanches that are in this museum. The museum has much more to offer though if you’re interested in how the canary islands came to exist and the animals and plants on the island. We did not have much time so went quickly through the rest of the exhibition. Worth going for the mummies though, I had never seen something like that before. Because of Covid we had free entry to the museum.

Mainly Mummies
Aug 2020
This large museum holds exhibits on the geology, natural history and archaeology but I guess the exhibit that will be remembered are the mummified corpses of Guanche people that are exhibited in a special area of the museum. When we visited the museum was largely empty so we had easy access, but Covid 19 means that access to this area is restricted. The museum serves as an introduction to the history, flora and fauna of the islands and sets them in context, but in my opinion misses the opportunity to imprint the island´s background on the visitor.

Interesting exposition about Tenerife and Canary Islands
Jul 2020 • Family
If you have ta me and you are fed up of the beach, sun and people my suggestion will be to visit this museum. They have all protective measures for coronavirus, so it’s safe. But the most important the exhibition will attract both kids and adults. You’ll learn a lot about the history of Canary Islands, its archeological discoveries, nature, origin of people, habits and skills, natural resources and even about observatory and astrophysics.

Be prepared to meet a mummy!
Feb 2020
This museum is located in a grand building on the sea front and houses exhibits on the local natural history and archeology as well as mummies from the time of the original people of the island, the Guanches. If the mummified remains of peple from hundreds of years ago is not your thing then you will want to give that section a miss.

A Missed Opportunity
Feb 2020 • Couples
This sadly is a very poor museum.
The building is lovely and very easy to access but its contents and presentation are not recommended.
The lighting is awful. Many of the notations are impossible to read.
A museum such as this needs to introduce its topic, explain how it will roll out its information and then guide you through its subject providing a summary at the end. This does not happen here.
Exhibited items are either too high (e.g., birds) or too low to be easily looked at. The level of detail on most items is inadequate to provide any feel for the item displayed.
The Guanche section is disappointing. There is an interesting story to tell about early settlement but it is not told here.
This museum does not cater to young people. There is nothing here to fire the interest of a child.
The one area of interest is the section that outlines vegetation from seashore to mountain peak. If you are a walker, this does provide a good overview of the plants/trees you will likely encounter.
We have visited a similar museum in Gran Canaria, which is very well done. This was very disappointing and really not worth a visit.

Good audiotour in English but nothing else in English
Jan 2020
A lot of interesting things to see and learn. I was surprised though that there was hardly any information in English. Without the audio tour, it would not have been good at all.

Interesting & a bit of a maze
Jan 2020
This museum is interesting, informative and at times cool/gross. Be warned, it's not free as described on a few of the descriptions online, it's well worth the fiver entry, however! If you're going, make sure to bring your headphones and phone for the audio tour app, and completely ignore any directions given to you by the English audio tour (follow the signs instead).

Positive surprise
Oct 2019
We got lot of positive surprises when we visited in museum. The first one was free of charge entrance on late Saturday afternoon. The second one was quality and size of the museum. They have really interesting presentation about volcanos and local archeology.

Much better than expected
Oct 2019 • Family
My 7 year old loved this museum. From geology to genealogy. Great visual insight into the flora and fauna of the Canary Islands. So much so we have decided to stay in Tenerife a little longer to explore some more.

Fascinating museum
Oct 2019 • Couples
Great museum - we really only visited the archeology/anthropology section as we had limited time. Though most of the information is only in Spanish (and after all it is in Spain!) there were English sheets available. The mummies were outstanding...definitely worth a trip.
