Beautiful church with incredible woodwork

The church is not impressive by it's size like most of the other churches the tourists are used to, but it impressed me with the beautiful ceiling made of pine wood.

You no doubt will have visited grander churches and basilicas in your travels. i know I have. still for this city in this climate it is a beautiful edifice- clean and white and tastefully built. The interior eschews marble in favor of native stone and is very appealing. The stone/wood carvings are magnificent and gilt- edged. Worth a look, especially... More

Jaw droppingly beautiful. If you only visit Santa Cruz once, you must look in on this wonderful old Church, its spire is easy to spot from all over the City.

Bit on the edge of the old town but combine this with a trip to the market. The church is vast and more than a little gloomy even on a summer day. Five aisles wide and loads of side chapels, some fairly crude art works and one or two pretty ceilings.

It is a UNESCO world heritage site within a walking distance from many bus stops. The area has wonderful old churches from the early days of Spaniards in Tenerife, but also it is a trendy shopping area with lots of cafes and restaurants. You can probably spend 2-4 hours there.

definitely worth a look. Opens at unusual times so worth taking the time to find out what these are if you want to visit. E.g. on Friday afternoon it opened at 5.30pm.

This is a lovely historic building in the heart of an interesting district (musicians, little restaurants etc). We were lucky enough to arrive in the middle of Mass and there was a violin playing. A large and elegant congregation in this truly beautiful church.

Our first stop in six days, we were eager to disembark for a day in Santa Cruz. This was our first stop. When you walk in the door your breath is halted for a second. It's truly a beautiful structure with marvels everywhere you turn. I especially loved the intricate wood carving throughout the building. Added to that the incredible... More

If you like all things ecclesiastical, colonial and Baroque, this is for you. As are most old churches in the Canary Islands. Treasure houses.
