    Excellent Zoo
This is an top class zoo with many animals I had never seen before including killer whales, emperor penguins and white tigers. On the day we went it was packed, took ages to buy a ticket (visitors to the island pay double what residents have to pay €38 per adult, pricey!!!) then it took ages to get through the bag and security check and as soon as you get in there is another deliberate bottle neck where they try and take your photo, this also took ages to get through. Once through all of that the range of animals is impressive. There are dolphin and killer whale shows throughout the day but you should plan which times you want to go to and get there early or you wont get in. The animals enclosures are very good and they clearly take excellent care of their animals. I always have a dilemma when it comes to zoos, part of me says the animals should all be free and locking them up is wrong but then this comes with the desperatley sad truth that in years to come the only place some of these species will survive is in zoos like this one. It's hard to judge when it will be packed and when it wont be packed I would say if you are fortunate enough to visit on a less busy day it will be a more enjoyable day, I was rammed and buffeted by many a push chair. The layout and narrow paths are not well placed to deal with high volumes of people. Overall though I would recommend it.

Some tips for You! 😉 second time visit!
Hi! We visited this park first time in 2015 and now in 2020 feb. with 2x kids, 1.year and 4.years old. in general didnt find anything new there, But here comes some tips for You: ❗️Visit park as early as You can, its quite large and it will take all day to walk around and visit shows! Also tourism buses arrive around 11:00am and depart on 17:00, its not a lot of time to visit all in slow motion if You are with kids! ❗️dont forget to take a jacket, its near ocean and there will be vindy and colder as You think! We where 2x times and was freezing.. ❗️dont try to find a cheaper tickets and waste Your time hoping to get cheaper price somewhere! They have a agreement of flat price in all retail and tourism office! Same price in all places! Can recomend to use a Loropark web page and buy a eticket to skip the lines and save some 15min time on entrance! ❗️ if you are with kids and use baby trollys, in park there can rent a McLaren size trollys for around 5-10€ for all day! Age from 1-5years! So if You are renting a car dont need to take one with extra trunk for trollies cos You can tent it in oark amd take the cheapest car! ❗️if You forgot to take a baseball hat, dont worrie! In the entrance of park there can buy a Loro park yellow baseball hat for just a 1€! One size fits all! We took it, didnt regret! This ofer is there for last 5x years! ❗️if You go with kids take along some snacks! In park they cost quite expensive and we gave only 5/10 stars in cafe for dinner, food could be better taste! ❗️in general we could give a name “birds park” cos almost 60% from all animals are parrots! -IF You cant decide to go or not, I can recomend to visit it, kids will love it! But its for all day trip! Enjoy! 😉

Just back from visiting and what a great experience it was, we paid for the behind the scenes tour at the zoo at a extra cost of 11 euros at the gates of the zoo as you go through and was not disappointed our guide was outstanding,I think she said she was from the Netherlands, great English. the whole park was exceptional, We had a great day out a must visit for anyone visiting the Island. Thank you.

The shows were good, but the loro show was better 10 years ago when i came the first time. Staff friendly. Pinguin part exceptional.
I dont think its okay to charge 4 euro for parking after charging almost 40 euro entrance per person. It is an expensive zoo.
What i want to suggest the LP team: sustainabilty and animal car is very important to you which is great (you can see in the zoo the many projects they are sponsoring) but why put stickers on all cars in the parking lot while people are visiting the zoo? I understand its marketing but bear in mind most visitors are tourist in rental cars. The rental companie are taking off those lovely stickers.

I found this park absolutely amazing. My friends and I took the free train from the city centre of Puerto de la Cruz, it was a great little trip, upon arrival we decided to pay for the Discovery tour, absolutely worth the 11 Euros. Our guide was from The Netherlands, and presented an excellent guided tour with lots of interesting facts about the park, it's origins and what the park does for the environment and the protection of our planet's animals. You can really tell that the place is well taken care of, the bird cages clean, animals seem very content and happy, and the animals that they've adopted who are disabled (partially paralysed, deaf etc) is just amazing. The animals that perform are never forced to do it, if the animals don't want to play that day, they don't do any shows, they aren't forced to leave their sleeping quarters for people to look at them and take photos. We were allowed to bring food in, but the food prices were very reasonable. The only place I didn't check out was the kinder park, as we had no kids with us. I highly recommend this place, and if I head back to Tenerife, I will for sure go again and visit.

We took our 4 year old here for the day and it was well worth the money. It cost us 113€ for entry tickets and transfer from our hotel in Costa Adeje which was about 1hr 20mins away.
There was plenty of room at each of the shows and they were AMAZING!!! I recommend sitting in the splash zone at the Orca show because it was hilarious. We didnt stop laughing.
Personally I didnt think there were many animals (or less than I had expected) and it was quite a walk between each "area" but it was nice to hear the story behind the animals. I would honestly have paid the money we paid just to watch the 3 shows because of how good they were. Its something that will stay with us for life and we got close enough to get good videos and photos as memories. Food wasn't too badly priced either. We had a baguette each and a sharing bag of crisps for lunch which was about 14€ and they also sold pint cans of koppaberg for 3.50€ which was a bargain and very refreshing on a hot day.
If you are visiting tenerife and are in the position to be able to visit here then I highly recommend it for all ages!!!

We had visited Siam Park (again) the day before and so bought a discounted ticket (10 euros cheaper). Before we got to the park we were filtered off up a side road by 2 guys saying the Loro Park car park was full and we could park there for 3 euros. Full car park in January? Anyway we refused and drove into the nearly empty car park which was 4 euros and a lot safer and closer. We were offered a behind the scenes tour for 11 euros with a lovely Dutch tour guide, We went to see the baby parrots and penguins in their incubatorsand went under the whale enclosure to see the whales being trained. our guide Martje was so enthusiastic and ibtroduced us to the gorillas, penguins and whales and their histories. She explained all about the behind the scenes running of the park and all about the Loro Park Foundation. It was so interesting and only took about 90 minutes. We then continued our look around the park on our own taking in the shows (which you need to plan if you want to see them all and they are all worth seeing). The park is laid out really well too. We thoroughly enjoyed it

The park is beautiful and well arranged. We saw the orca show and sea lion show which were both great. The orca show can make you very wet though so sit high up if you would rather be dry. Some people got upset for getting splashed on. Penguins are fantastic.
Big crowds mean that you will spend time navigating bodies and waiting in lines.
Overall good experience but price is high - the park is not that big.

Security measures for COVID are miserable. Lots of signs and gel dispensers around but zero capacity control, entrance is supposed to be limited but the park was crowded as usual. Show access is not limited at all, there’s lack of organization at the exit once the show is over and you have to wait on queues too close to other people. Masks are mandatory inside the park but there was a lot of people walking without them and nobody seemed to care. They are obviously understaffed and the few workers there can’t handle this volume of attendance. Gel dispensers are authomatic and too high for children. One of the kids in our group ended up with alcoholic solution in her eye. Bathrooms are filthy when they used to be impolute. The aquarium was the worst part, it’s a tight enclosure and nobody is checking how many people get in at once ( pre-covid there was always a lot of staff around guiding people and cleaning surfaces all the time, makes no sense that there’s nobody there right now). The sharks tunnel was absolutely caothic and we just rushed out without even looking, people were taking pics without masks. This visit was the most umpleasant ever, if this is how it looks in May I don’t want to imagine how it will be once the tourists start to come in during the summer. Also, they requested my fingerprint at the entrance for the annual card, which I was not warned about when I got the card or I would have not renewed it as they are not clear at all about how this kind of data is stored, when I asked, staff was rude and told me it was mandatory, but no other explanation. The screen used to get the fingerprint was not cleaned after each customer. Money talks I guess, once customers pay they just don’t seem to care about anything else. Those very “scrict protocols” they brag about so much in the press need a good review in my opinion.

Dear visitor, First of all we would like to thank you for your visit. Please be assured that we have taken all necessary measures to ensure the health of our visitors and staff, and we carefully monitor the capacity to guarantee a safe environment and comply with all regulations. We are actually making an extra effort by putting audio messages throughout the entire park to remind the visitors about the safety rules, there is personnel in every strategically important areas of the park. Inasmuch, there are signs placed throughout the park in different languages and disinfectant dispensers throughout a park. As far as fingerprint scanning is concerned, this is done because the annual card is personal and non-transferable. No data is stored on our servers, the card is simply associated to a person through a fingerprint. We regret that you do not feel that you received the attention you expected and we will pass the information on to the departmental managers in order to take the corresponding measures. We really appreciate your visit and your feedback and we are looking forward to welcoming you again at the best zoo in the world, a recognition that we are proud to have received from our visitors from all over the world. Best Regards; Loro Parque Team

We went to the private tour of the park for €100 per person, well worth the money but we left the park also feeling conflicted.

Starting with the good bits: Loro Park was among the cleanest, best designed animal parks I had been to. All the enclosure glasses were meticulously scrubbed, and the staff really paid attention and care to the animals diets, going all in for expensive wholesome ingredients. Most of the animals were also very active, not distressed. Even the normally docile white tiger playfully roamed around in the cooler afternoon temperature. The staff and guides were also the friendliest and kindest. I especially appreciated the conservation work the Park has done, bringing species like the Brazilian parrot from the edge of distinction, and the rehabilitation it does for wounded wildlife.

However, I wish one day Loro Park and other similar wildlife parks can take note on the following: some species are just not well suited for enclosed life in small areas. Almost half of their orcas have collapsed fins, and while they lived in a huge pond in human standard, it was incredibly crammed for 5+ giant orcas who normally travel hundreds of miles in the wild during a single day. I was saddened to learn that one of the orcas they housed, Keto, had caused the death of one trainer a few years back (they have now stopped having trainers in the same pool as the orcas as a precaution, thankfully). While I realize some of the orcas are too old or reliant to be released back to the wild, I urge the park to release the ones that can still get reintroduced to the wild, stop any breeding programs, and ensure proper education and information to be shared among its visitors, shedding a little light on the darker history of whale shows, to acknowledge that mistakes have been made but not any longer. Families and tourists will always come to the park for its other specialities, please don’t keep the whales just for attracting more visitors because it’s both irresponsible and likely will not gather as much interest going forward as people become more educated on the topic (e.g. by Blackfish documentary).

All in all, leaving a very conflicted experience, loving some sides but loathing others. I hope they can continue building their strengths and really do the right thing with some of their larger species.

Many thanks for your thoughtful comment about the orcas, from which we can see that you are a person truly concerned by animal welfare. The health and welfare of all the orcas in Loro Parque is permanently monitored by the veterinarian staff, which have extensive experience in cetacean veterinarian medicine. These professionals have the most advanced diagnostic tools, have full access to the animals and are able to take blood and urine samples, behavioural records, ultrasound explorations, etc. Moreover, we receive visits from independent experts in cetacean veterinarian medicine some of them with over 40 years of experience taking care of cetaceans all around the world. None of the above mentioned professionals with full access to the animals have ever expressed any concern about the health or the welfare of the group of killer whales housed at Loro Parque. The organizations behind “films” like Blackfish also show no interest in the important conservation work to help the protection of orcas and other cetaceans in the wild to which Loro Parque contributes through the Loro Parque Foundation. This conservation work has provided the key information necessary for the Spanish Government to decide on marine protected areas for the threatened population of orcas in the Strait of Gibraltar. It has also contributed to knowledge about the levels of persistent chemicals accumulating in orcas and other cetaceans in European waters. The Loro Parque Foundation contributes US$1 million annually for conservation of wild animals and their habitats. To make a useful comparison, I suggest you to find out what useful work PETA, Born Free or Free Morgan Foundation has done for the conservation of orcas, cetaceans or any other animal. We are sure you will find it difficult to discover anything useful. Animals have a number of needs regarding the environment in order to survive. Wherever they find such conditions they convert this area into their home, whether it is in a savanna, a redwood tree in the forest, a rock wall in the mountains or a zoo. Having a territory is not an individual desire of an animal, contrary to what happens to a human being. Animals simply need the resources of their territory to ensure their survival and reproduction; and that is why the dimensions of a territory vary within the same species. A lynx in the Western Alps needs about 80 km2 to be able to hunt the 50-70 deer or chamois each year. A lynx in the province of Wallis where forest rangers provide regular roe deer feeding reduces its territory to a few hundred metres, as it can come down from its tree weekly to hunt its roe deer. Exactly the same thing happens with wolves in Canada that live near fixed territories of bison, groups of dolphins in lagoons with lots of fish or killer whales during the abundance of tuna in the Strait of Gibraltar. This is why in zoos, where food is provided to the animals, the areas can be much smaller without affecting the animals. Orcas do not swim hundreds of miles because they have a physiological need to do so, they only do it forced by the need to get food. If they are able to find food in a small, shallow area, they remain in the same place and stop doing deep dives for long periods. This has been proven with killer whales tracked with satellite tags in Gibraltar Strait, where the animals have plenty of food in a small area, and they did not travel more than 10 miles per day. Finally, if you are concerned about the welfare of the cetaceans under human care, I recommend you to read the compilation about the fake news disseminated by the anti-zoo organizations you can find on our web.

We spent a day at Loro Parque whilst on holiday in Costa Adeje and thoroughly enjoyed it. The park is very well laid out and it appeared all the animals were looked after with genuine care for their wellbeing. We booked the Discovery Tour (+€9pp) which was well worth it - 90 mins “behind the scenes” with an excellent guide who made the trip both interesting and fun. The various shows (Orcas, Dolphins, Sea Lions) were great. Having now done it, I’m not sure we’d return for a while but if you’re looking for a new experience whilst in Tenerife, we can definitely recommend Loro Parque.

We went to Loro Parque on Christmas Day 2019. We were staying in Puerto de la Cruz specifically so we could conveniently go here. We got the little yellow road train at 9am which took about 15 minutes to get to the Zoo.

We had purchased Diamond Tour tickets which I am very pleased about. These gave us a behind the scenes tour (also available with the Discovery Tour and Premium Tickets) but also got us a wonderful lunch at Brunelli's steakhouse.

As we bought the tickets online we just went straight through at the entrance. We immediately got seen by one of the guides who gave us our stickers for the day. The Diamond tickets also gave you access to the best seats at the shows.

What struck us straight away was how clean everything was. The map given to us was easy to read and everything was signposted.

I am a penguin freak so first stop was the AMAZiNG Planet Penguin. There were the ubiquitous (sadly as they are probably the rarest) Humboldt penguins with their outside enclosure, although still behind glass. The next part you walk through columns of ice to get the Antarctic exhibition. I was a bit worried it would be a bit 'happy feet' and make me sad but on the contrary; the penguins were alert, many were swimming and jumping around. Some were even sitting on eggs. You stand on a platform which takes you round so there is no pushing in. The whole thing takes about 20 minutes to go round and at the end they have the Puffins - which were adorable. It was an incredible exhibition which I am not afraid to say had me quite emotional!

After that we went to find our tour guide - ours was Carolina. She was friendly, informative and professional. The behind the scenes bits were great, especially the Orca. You get to go underneath their pool and actually seeing them in the show, where they are jumping and splashing is wonderful but seeing them through thick glass windows actually under the water in their environment was spectacular (and very emotional actually). One actually glided past the window so close and to see its markings and size was incredible.

The shows were great, the parrots, sealions, dolphins and orcas. Again I thought we might have a bit of a moral issue with the capitivity but when you learn that actually some were rescued, some came from captive bred programmes from other zoos and to see that they genuinely looked happy it makes you think differently. You could see that all the keepers loved their animals.

We had a full Christmas Day there, including 3 visits to the penguins, and can honestly say it was the best zoo ever, and we've been to quite a few!

Enjoy everyone.

First of all we drove to the park and when we came into the main road there were guys waving and saying parking full and sent us up a road. We parked and got out and the guy said €5, I was like no way are you charging me for parking on a road. Not wanting to leave the car there I moved it and parked a wee bit further down the road. Once we got to the park the car park was not full and it was €4. (there was plenty of on street parking). So watch out for the chancers. I had a leaflet for,,, €10 off after being to Siam Park but did not read it correctly and you have to buy the tickets at Siam. I was raging with myself. So it was €102 for two adults and a child.

As for the day, it was a good park, very clean. Not as big as other zoos but the shows were good, as the previous poster said the whale pools could be much bigger. Some of the other enclosures were quite small and park wasn't as big as I expected. I feel its prob quite expensive for what it is (would have been fine if I had saved the €10 each 🙈) to be honest and don't think I would return. The one in Benidorm is much larger and also had more play parks for the kids. We had food which was ok, three meals and juice for €36.
