We were at the market nearby and saw this lovely church but were unable to go in as there was work being done. Asked a few questions and found out this is a very famous church as it houses the image of the very much loved Cristo de La Laguna. It was built in the 1500s and was given the royal title in 1906 by King AlfonsoX111. So this is a very significant church well worth spending some time at .…

This small cathedral is near a bustling farmer's market. Enter through the courtyard and at the front of the sanctuary is an exceptional statue of Christ. The statue was made by a Dutch artist, Louis Van Der Vule, for the cathedral. If you visit the market, you must stop for the statue as well.…

The sanctuary del cristo is impressive. The church itself is a good example of architecture of earlier churches and construction is reflective of the available materials.

This church is next to La Laguna Market Hall so you can combine both the spiritual and the earthly attractions in Plaza de San Francisco. In this church you see a sculpture depicting a crucified Jesus embossed in silver. Besides this sculpture, another highlight of the Sanctuary refers to the huge patrimony of items made of precious metal and jewels. This is one of the churches with the 5 EUR entrance ticket (entitles you to access to 5 different church or convent) Unfortunately at the time I visited this church, there was a cleaning hustle going on and even after waiting for quite some time the people awaiting for the access were only allowed to see the church from the vestibule. I am happy we got at least a glimpse of this magnificent altar and crucified Jesus.…
