Yes, this is a UNESCO heritage site and sure, the old center is cute but I have seen many places like this before. I guess the historic importance contributes to the UNESCO reward. It is nice to wander around and look at the colorful houses.

Nice little historical center in the Capital of Tenerife. Beautiful Spanish colonial buildings.
Disappointed about too many shops and non artistic graffiti on the walls. Worth a visit but don't expect too much.

We spent the morning walking around this old city’s 1999 UNESCO sights. Staying at the Hotel Laguna Nivaria limited our walk to 2.5 km over mostly pedestrian streets. We began at 9 AM opening of the 1511 Church of our Lady of Conception with its 17th C lava stone tower, 1915 Leal Theater, 1915 Cathedral, 17th century Palace Salazar, 1496 Lecaro Palace (History and Anthropology Museum), 18th C Convento de Santa Clara, 1580 Real Santuario del Cristo de La Laguna/city market, 1585 Nava Palace and finally 1527 Santo Domingo de Guzmán church.
While our 3 hour tour contained mostly religious buildings there were also distinctive wooden balconies/tiled entryways, brightly painted buildings, large flowering trees and a stop for chocolate and churros. The multi-lingual building descriptions were most helpful and included many more then we could inspect.

So many places to visit that vacations seem short, way too short. The locals are kind and friendly, Santa Cruz, the capital is one of the loveliest cities in Europe, worth using as a base to visit the Island. Driving is safe, good road, good food, and fantastic weather. What more? I go to TF whenever possible and never enough. COVID is killing that heaven and above-average strict rules are not helping.

After hiking in the beautiful Anaga Rural Park, we visited the picturesque center of La Laguna, which was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999 as a "unique example of an unfortified colonial town" .
The center is very well preserved, with beautiful colorful houses with well decorated patios and fine buildings (churches, palaces) in pedestrian streets. A peaceful and beautiful place !

Not too big, you can take a full tour in about an hour, but totally worth it. A little bit too crowded especially now with all the restrictions. Full of museums, shops and restaurants.

Take the tram from Santa Cruz to get a flavour of the city then you can easily spend the day wandering the streets of La Laguna. There's some interesting museums (some open in current crisis) and old buildings to explore. Lots of churches and artisan shops tucked away in the side streets.

This is one place you must visit when on Tenerife. It's the old capital and the buildings date back many years with many being elegant and reflect the architecture of the time - the town has a distinctly Spanish feel and is a UNESCO heritage site.
The historical centre is well worth spending an extended time exploring with many streets in that area being pedestrianised. There are many restaurants and bars as well as independent shops.
I would imagine that only a small proportion of the total number of tourists that visit Tenerife go to La Luguna which is in some ways a relief as it would be inundated but it is also sad as they are missing a jewel.

What a stunning place to spend a few hours or a day, amazing old colourful buildings and little cobble streets with a great array of eatery’s. Highly recommend a visit to anyone travelling to Tenerife.
