This is one place you must visit when on Tenerife. It's the old capital and the buildings date back many years with many being elegant and reflect the architecture of the time - the town has a distinctly Spanish feel and is a UNESCO heritage site. The historical centre is well worth spending an extended time exploring with many streets in that area being pedestrianised. There are many restaurants and bars as well as independent shops. I would imagine that only a small proportion of the total number of tourists that visit Tenerife go to La Luguna which is in some ways a relief as it would be inundated but it is also sad as they are missing a jewel.

What a stunning place to spend a few hours or a day, amazing old colourful buildings and little cobble streets with a great array of eatery’s. Highly recommend a visit to anyone travelling to Tenerife.

Highlight of Tenerife by a long way. Beautiful old town with some really elegant old buildings. Not a big tourist centre. Wonderful to experience a proper Canarian town and it's people.

I booked a room in La Laguna solely on the basis of its proximity to the northern Tenerife airport where we had an outbound flight the next morning. That's still a good reason (five minute cab ride to the airport) but the town itself was an unexpected treasure--I wish we had stayed longer. Wonderful architecture, broad 16th C walking streets, churches, many interesting restaurants- just about perfect.

I planned a full day there and stayed only a couple of hours. I took the bus from Puerto Cruz, walked around for 2 hours and then the tram to Santa Cruz. It is an enchanting area and glad I went there but I wouldn't go there if not being around.
