I made a short visit into the nice monastery. The convent of Santa Catalina de Siena is located in the heart of the city next to the Plaza del Adelantado and is known because inside it is preserved the incorrupt body of María de León Bello y Delgado , popularly called "La Siervita" .

I was with a guided tour the first time I was in La Laguna and we were told about the convent, the enclosed order of nuns and the wooden balcony that hides them from view but enables them to look down into the square and around. I had no opportunity of going inside because of the lack of time, but later I went back to La Laguna on my own. Unfortunately, the convent and chapel was closed when I arrived, and I was given different opening times by various people. My third attempt met with success - the door had been opened at 1 p.m. Unfortunately the convent's museum was closed that day but for €2 I was able to admire the lovely old (but rather dark) chapel with its impressive altarpiece. I was glad that I had made the effort.

La Laguna is a fabulous city with lots of historical attractions. The chapel in the convent is amazing. The ticket (€2 per person) also gives access to the Torre at the other end of the street. Lovely view from the Torre and great to be up there when the bells ring on the quarter hour.

This was one of two convents that we got to see on our tour of La Laguna, although we did not get to go inside of either of them given timing (we did though see one of the few remaining nuns who live there emerge as we passed).
The attraction for me was to see the beautiful wooden 'viewing room' perched at the top, from which the nuns apparently could safely observe the world outside without being seen back!

We went inside this Convento Santa Catalina and it was small but had a charming feel about it. The statues are beautiful. It was worth going it and taking pictures. We were on shore excursion from our cruise ship so I don't know if there was a cost associated with going inside or if that was paid by our excursion as part of the package. But it's worth taking a look inside. I loved the town it's located in. It very quaint with cobble stone streets, and the mountains in the background. There is also a shop a few steps away. I would recommend this.

This old convent is the most modest one of the churches and convents I visited. Its location opposite nice and airy park, Plaza del Adelantado, makes me suggest that you visit this convent on the way to Church and Ex-Convent of Santo Domingo de Guzman and rest your feet in the park. If you walk along Nava y Grimon street, you will also bypass a few houses worth of closer look.

There is only a few details in this convent, but if you have the 5 EUR entrance ticket to the churches and convents, you get in with that ticket without extra charge.
