This mountain - extinct volcano - is, to my mind, the guardian of Corralejo. Whenever I return from travelling and pass La Montana Roja I expel a breath that I didn't know I was holding and feel at home once more.
Once you've passed the mountain the seascape on the right hand side is spectacular - colours that its difficult to describe and wild waves crashing into the rocks.
The mountain itself had lowland slopes that look in certain lights like the paws of a giant bear.
Some people go climbing the mountain - others, like myself, just stare and smile.

We cycled to the volcano, then walked up to the crater, from which you get superb views of the coast. An enjoyable and cheap activity!

this is the large red volcano mountain you see when approaching Corralejo, this mountain changes everytime i see it. The bright red colours change variations throughout the year. Just beyond the mountain you will come across the famous sand dunes.

Nice easy little mountain to climb with some great views at the top. We walked here from El Medano and then around the base of it. It was fairly easy going up and took us about 20 mins. Coming down however took a little longer as it was rather slippy in places where the loose stones are. I was wearing good walking shoes but still slipped once. On the other hand we saw several locals running up and down it.
Worth the climb up for the views.

I made it with my wife and 3 children (4, 7, 9 year old) in less than 2.5 hour. This was just the right plan for them. The path is little slippy with a lot of rocks at some point but it was OK. Of course, I carried the smallest child on my shoulders during a part of the walk.
To go there, you need a car and park along the FV-1 road at the point where the river named "Barranco del Moro" crosses the FV-1 road (Google Maps knows the river).
Wikiloc shows the whole path from the road to the top of the Red Montain: http://fr.wikiloc.com/wikiloc/view.do?id=5837907. Going trough the dry river is a little more difficult than going through the way a little on the North (see both paths on wikiloc map).

The Montana Roja or Rosy Mountain to all the English visitors, is a heap of volcanic ash and debris at the far end of the matchless El Medano beach in Tenerife. It is a World Heritage Site because of its uniquely adapted flora and fauna to its harsh maritime environment. What grows here can be found elsewhere along the coastline, but larger, more robust, taller and different in subtle ways. Nothing on Rosy grows more than a foot high before it spreads out, horizontal to the ground, bending in homage to the relentless wind off the sea. Most are bizarrely miniaturised editions of their 'real' selves. The fauna (very small animals, insects etc) are similarly adapted.
You can climb Rosy, but it's very steep and trickier than it looks, and don't attempt it
without trousers, a windproof sweater and good trainers. It is like climbing on small ball-bearings and if you slip they will tear your skin. Coming down is harder than going up. having said all that, many people go up every day and the view from the top is spectacular. The other aspects of Rosy are quite different from the one presented to the resort of El Medano.
A walk along the beach and around the base of the Montana Roja, gives access to some spectacularly coloured rocks and sands. But watch the tide as it is possible to find getting back a trifle difficult! This landscape give, in miniature, a taste of the colours of the wonderful mountain terrain of El Teide, Spain's highest mountain and an active volcano. still breathing a little fire. El Teide is Tenerife's creator.

We took bus from los Cristianos and took us 1 jour to reach. Then there is a walk of around 1 km until you reach to the mountai. There are several roytes one can take with different difficulty levels and lengths. Check the map near the parking. Overall, it's easy to climb. Good if you have walking sticks as it gets a little bit slippery when coming down. Have proper shoes and possibly a wind jacket if you are sensitive to the wind. Try to manage to be on top around 12:00 as winds get stronger in the evening. On the pick, there is nothing but great scenery of the ocean and island. It's good to go there once if you have time.

The walk up the mountain is manageable for the less fit if started early in the morning before the heat builds up. However it can be tricky descending as the path is very crumbly volcanic rock and can be very slippy and dusty. Alternative routes are posted on the level which take you by rocky outcrops and stacks - easier to manage than the mountain path which however has good views.

We walked from our hotel to the mountain and to the top. Steep in places but worth the hike. Closed footwear advisable. We saw people walking it in flip flops.
