PAY MORE ATTENTION at the intermediary stops for the Panoramic views where you can take pictures - bethween Tomaimo going up/going dowm to Masca (aprox.5 km). In our case, a white small hatchback car, 2 male thievs ( one in the car, one outside waiting and smoking). The one from outside was limping. CLOSE the Car!! And don’t let bag inside. The road is full with wallets, passports and cards. We discovered those items of others while we were picking up ours from the side of the road. It seems that they are only keeping Cash and valuable goods they can monetize quickly ( but no cards, beach bags and ID’s etc). They are throwing these kind of (last) items outside the window of their car on the side of the road. Good Luck!

The Masca Valley offers fantastic scenery and views of some beautiful villages, however driving is tough due to narrow windy lanes and steep hills. It’s worth noting that parking at Masca village is limited.

For mountainous vistas and tremendous panoramas, Masca Valley is the one for you. Los Gigantes knocks you back in awe, but Masca Valley takes your breathe away. Pure and simple, it is utterly brilliant. The winding roads down to the village and cafés are hair-raising indeed, but well worth it. Amazing.

After all the reviews and stories we expected much more. It turned out it is just a couple of houses in the middle of nowhere, with some nice views, but not unlike in other places throughout the island. The village itself is not very interesting, has some tourist-focused restaurants and overpriced gift shops. Also, the road there while it offers great views is not very difficult to drive on and certainly not dangerous. Whoever says so has never driven in the Alps nor even explored this very island - I can point a couple of mountain roads in Tenerife more difficult to drive on than this one. The only real danger are the thieves. The signs warning not to leave any valuables in the car are there for a reason. On one of the view points we prevented a theft - a guy appeared out of nowhere and was trying to lower the window in a car that was left slightly open by its occupants. While they were enjoying the views he was trying to steal from their car - we honked and he run away, but it was a reminder for us to close all the windows and lock the car on every stop.

This is the second most visited place on the island after Teide and, if you do not time your visit right, you will find out why as the village can get chocked with traffic and visitors. However, get it right and you will be rewarded with some lovely views out over Santiago del Teide on the way up and some great roads to drive, if you like hairpins and steep sections with some narrow parts as well. The village itself is quite small and accommodation is very limited there. One of it's main attractions, leaving aside it's location and the views, is that it is the start of a hike down towards the sea. I've never done it but, apparently, it can take about 6 hours so some planning is required especially in order to catch the boat from the beach to take you to Los Gigantes - it's the only way off the beach if you do not want to walk back up the Masca gorge.
