Have been before a few times and have settled on using buses which this year was problematical. We travelled from Los Cristianos via Adeje and Santiago de Teidi. Late buses and an a large crowd for the return trip from the valley meant no room on the smaller mini bus but we eventually escaped. No taxis available. I suspect this was a post covid one off problem. If you want hassle free then take a booked trip or hire a taxi at a price. The Valley itself is well worth the trip. Stunning views and plenty of walks. The area is very scenic.

Let me start with the difficulties to find a parking spot, plenty of tourists making it hard to find a spot to eat or drink (most of which close around 4pm). We were unlucky to arrive when it was raining and unfortunately due to poor shoes choice, we were slipping all the way down the stones - please bring proper shoes! The way to the place itself may be difficult for beginner drivers or drivers from flat countries - it is truly a rocky road to the top of the mountain and around it so it’s best for an experienced driver.
The valley itself guarantees great views of mountains, green and ocean altogether. I would recommend it as a half day trip (morning times preferred), there is definitely plenty of kilometers to walk!

We visited Masca as part of a Teide National Park tour. What a lovely tucked away little place. We could see why it was popular with the pirates in days gone by.
we made purchases in the little shop and cafe there and bought a leather woven braclet from a man who was making all kinds of leather goods.

Masca is definitely beautiful, the views are absolutely gorgeous, but that is kind of all. We have stayed here for 4 nights and it could have easily been 1-2 or even an afternoon visit only.
The road to the village is difficult, but, there is a bus passing by multiple times a day, one ride to/from Saintiago del Teide is 1.45 Eur.
There are not that many hiking trails right in the village - either you take the 7 hour hike down to Los Gigantes and back, or you have very little options nearby. Getting to any trail, you have to walk on the winding road, avoiding cars and busses, and it becomes uncomfortable rather quickly.
Local restaurants are really bad, tourist traps really not worth repeating a visit. Nowhere to get any sort of groceries, so you better stack on them before visiting.
All in all, I would definitelly recommend visiting Masca for the view for one afternoon visit, but I would not stay here again overnight.

If you’re an unsure driver this isn’t for you. Lots of blind inclined climbs and same with descents. Very minimal parking you must get there early or just be lucky. We parked just past masca and hiked down which was nice. This is a one and done type of trip and I wouldn’t go back. I probably wouldn’t recommend to anyone as there are many other hikes with better views in the area.

If I could of I would left a minus rating. I considered driving off the cliffs rather than continue on this road. When we finally arrived there was no parking so we had to go even further before able to turn back and drive back through the worst experience of my life. My children need therapy after seeing the smoke bailing from the back of the car and learning a lot of new swear words. I nearly decapitated my wife when she stuck her head out of the window to check how much space I had between a bus and the cliff edge, our marriage will never be the same! I hear pirates used to hide their treasures here and I believe it as even if the authorities knew where it was they wouldn't risk their lives on this road to hell. DO NOT ATTEMPT unless you are willing to risk your marriages, friendships and childrens futures. It's been three days and the nightmares seem to be getting worse as does the smell from my clutch.

Our trip to Masca Valley was awesome! Highly recommended! From all places we visited for me was the highlight!
Of course as many people mentioned the road is narrow and bit difficult, but me personally I am beginner in driving and I had no problem. Maybe it was also because we went there not in that “rush” hour and this is what I recommended!! Also all you need to do is drive slow and careful :) We went there around 5:30-6 PM and we catch the valley in day light and on our way back around 6:30-7 PM we catch beautiful sunset! We have awesome pictures and memories. Loved it!! Also many local people recommended go in this hour. was worth it ! They saiuis also very good stay after sunset to stay and watch the stars:) unlike we didn’t catch good weather. So hope someone of you will do :) Enjoy

This is the second most visited place on the island after Teide and, if you do not time your visit right, you will find out why as the village can get chocked with traffic and visitors. However, get it right and you will be rewarded with some lovely views out over Santiago del Teide on the way up and some great roads to drive, if you like hairpins and steep sections with some narrow parts as well.
The village itself is quite small and accommodation is very limited there. One of it's main attractions, leaving aside it's location and the views, is that it is the start of a hike down towards the sea. I've never done it but, apparently, it can take about 6 hours so some planning is required especially in order to catch the boat from the beach to take you to Los Gigantes - it's the only way off the beach if you do not want to walk back up the Masca gorge.

Hidden gem in the middle of mountains. Visited in December 2022 with my two children and we absolutely loved it.
We took a bus 355 to get there and back as I thought road may be closed for cars as it is to get to some places in mountains here in Tenerife. Taking bus was easy and reasonably priced and they run as what it says online. No road closure on the way but allowed me to enjoy their lovely beer with nice fish dish and an amazing views.
We tried cactus fruit (which I didn’t know it exists 😄 or at least didn’t have a clue that part of cactus is edible) and delicious papaya we purchased from local man selling fresh fruit.
At our visit place wasn’t crowded which I very appreciated and everyone was very friendly.
I would definitely say this is one of the must see destinations when in Tenerife.

We drove to Masca, and had a nice walk around the village. The road is very narrow, slopy and curvy. So don't drive fast!
Village itself is beautiful, viwes as breathtaking.
If you go down to the village there is a man selling fruits, all are fresh, local.
Whan leaving the village it is good to visit the restaurant where you can get cactus ice-creams, some local food and souvenirs. You can also buy there banana vine, specific for this area.

Hi! I just visited the village. I didn't enter the canyon itself. The hiking route from Masca to the beach is closed and under construction. I heard there is some alternative route available.

Thank you so much for info! do you know if hiking path from Masca is still closed? And even if it is closed if it ispossible to do it (some people mentioned they did hiking anyway).
Ciao, andrò a Tenerife e visiterò Masca a settembre 2019.
