    Sea views, volcanic rock beaches
Driving to this village will take you past volcanic terrain leading you to charcoal beaches as someone described them to me. On arrival you can wander through the village set against the coastal shoreline. It is quite pretty and coaches do seem to stop here to give passengers time to take photographs. You’ll find several seafront restaurants to choose from, many selling reasonably priced meals. When we were there it was not crowded which added to the pleasure of visiting. You may find busier locations in Lanzarote but the charm of the village here is its peaceful ambience. Enjoy .

Wonderful place with its magical green pool
I loved this place and could have stayed here forever but alas time was limited by my tour bus - the only way to get here without a car. It's a lovely breezy little village by the coast famous for its green inland pool and wonderful beach with tremendous waves. There are walks along the coast too which I would have loved the opportunity to have done but without a car its impossible to get here.

    Nice views
Stopped here on our organised tour of the island. A pleasant stop which was not too crowded in January. I can however see what others say for higher in the season. There are some good views as you walk along the path ending with the view point over the green lake. Worth it when we visited as there was some peace etc. So timing of the year is key!

It was blowing a gale when we visited but made our way up the well used track from the packed car park to see the charco verde lagoon. You can’t walk to it anymore but it’s still worth a look. The beach was amazing this day with the huge breakers coming in. We walked past all the overpriced tourist trap restaurants and cafes and found a locals cafe with great pastries and coffees. Just keep walking you will get there.

We hired a car for a couple of days so we could see some of the island and came upon El Golfo mid morning. It’s a very pretty little place and we imagine wound be very busy during normal times! There were still a few people around but the restaurants and cafes were extremely quiet. We walked to the viewing point for the green lake which was quite stunning with the contrast of the black sand and the rock formations.

It was a bit early for lunch but we did stop for coffee and cake with stunning views of the waves crashing over the rocks. We then had a walk down past the other restaurants and would very much like to revisit this lovely little place again.

We were cycling around Lanzerote on bike for the week, staying the night in different villages, trying to get a feel of the real islanders. We had stayed in homes in Teguise, Haría, Orzola. Arrieta, Tahiche, San Bartolomé, Uga and was really excited when we biked into the village, the road down gives you a beautiful view. We noted a lot of restaurants, a few shops but the mini market was closed. As we were stopping the night and had no food on our bikes we were going to need to eat at the many restaurants for the duration of our stay. We had rented a beautiful home in the village, up a little residential lane and was excited. So when we went to the very nearest restaurant to us, Mar Azul for a coffee and cake at 3.30pm and the owner demanded that we order lunch, making a big show, flouncing the menu around, shouting we were made to feel very uncomfortable . We were very worried about visiting the other restaurants for dinner, breakfast and lunch the day after. Luckily Casa Torano and Costa Azul made us feel very welcome, so we spent A LOT of money there. Even the lady in the Bazar Maria was lovely to us, so we purchased so jewellery. So to summarise, El Golfo has been made for day visitors, lots and lots of tourists visiting on bus.

We went to El Golfo to see Lago Verde (Green lake) but stayed there for the early dinner. The location on the western coast of Lanzarote makes it a perfect place for sunsets. There's also a black beach if you're in mood for some sunbathing.

The day we went to El Golfo, there was a howling wind, so we had to abandon plans for hiking along the coast. In any case, the path was disappointingly cindery and rocky. In the village itself, there were numerous tour buses off-loading people to look at the view from the cliff, which was rather off-putting. I walked down to the beach, which was pretty and surprisingly deserted.

Thursday 13th January and we visited this remote seaside village on southwest coast of the Island. It sits just the edge of the Los Volcanes Natural Park, hence the volcanic landscape of the village and it's environs

El Golfo is only reachable by car or on an organised tour as there is no public transport to here. There were no tour busses here when we visited, almost deserted.

On arriving here we parked up in the parking area on Avineda Maritima on the outskirts of the Village. We walked along this charming seafront road with Playa del Passo on one side and the other side lined with a number of fish restaurants serving local seafood.

We walked a little bit further beyond the edge of the Town and were treated to so wild and rugged landscape formed by black lava and battered by the Atlantic Ocean, the crashing sound was certainly loud.

Charco de los Clicos and it's green lagoon, which is caused by algae, is about two and a half kilometres away. We did not visit the Lagoon, but we did wonder if it was the reason that nearly every piece of wood, doors & their frames, window frames, even bits of boats were painted bright green, just a thought.

There is a walking route known as Ruta de Latiral, it runs fir about 12 kilometres along the entire coastline of the Timanfaya National Park. This commences at El Golfo and there are noticeboards giving details.

Very nice relaxed fishermen village turned into a laid back tourist hang out. There are a couple of nice hikes and some restaurants plus a good number of individual accommodations. You need a car or some other wheels if you want to swim, coast is rugged and dangerous but no noisy nightlife, no Irish pub or Sky TV pubs which turn some of the other places into Magaluf clones. So, highly recommended for people who try to get away from the crowd and the daily routine at home rather than trying to relive ist under the sun.

Beautiful village, unspoilt by tourism. Fantastic views and amazing sunsets.
Around 8 or so restaurants which are reasonably priced and (in the ones we tried) good food and service.
About 25 minutes drive to Playa Blanca and 35 to the airport.

We were expecting to get near to the pond. The path from car park leads only to the viewpoint really far away. Because there were few clouds on the sky pond was just grey. Really crowdy as well even on Monday morning in a low season. Although the shore looked amazing from the path.
