This trip was insane!! A must do
Jul 2021
We really enjoyed this trip. Quite easy until the end. The views are incredible and there is quite a bit of shade for when it is hot.

Non Walkers View
Jul 2021 • Couples
Although being Non-Walkers, we stopped here on our drive over the island.
It is still worth stopping at, just to admire the views & also to have a short stroll around the Jardin Botanico.
But it is mainly a starting place for the many, possibly very interesting, Walks.

Cumbrecita & Hike to Ermita de la Virgen Pino
May 2021
Cumbrecita round-walk takes approx 1hrs, nice views into the caldera & very special of you‘ve been to Roque de los Muchachos before... but - the Hike downwards is the real hero... beautiful but long hike; almost no people (compared to Cumbrecita) etc... i took the taxi from Santa Cruz to Cumrecita & so i was able to take the bus again at the visitors center
For anyone also not willing to drive by themselves: take the taxi from wherever you are staying; there were no taxis at the visitor center... on the return - bus no 300 brings you everywhere for those EUR 2,60 ;)

Magnificent
Oct 2020
The parking space is very small and we had to reserve a slot the day before our visit. We arrived early and had to wait which is fair enough.
Once at the top we were greeted by the most magnificent views and enjoyed a very pleasant walk. This is a must on your itinerary.

Magnificent, so quiet and tranquil.
Feb 2020
This entire area is just wonderful scenery, so quiet and calm. The entire area is just incredible, formed from volcanoes, fire and danger, now just a place of beauty and nature. We managed to park okay as arrived late afternoon, but best to book parking if going early as not too many spaces, and pretty tight parking area. We walked the Lomo de las Chozes trail, fantastic shorter one as the sun was going down! Great hike down and around the mountaintainside but not that challenging so okay for most people. The Mirador de los Roques is on the way back, a grand spot to view the amazing valley and forest area surrounding the hikes. What a fantastic place to walk through and around. We will be back.

An interesting & scenic heart to a beautiful island.
Jan 2020 • Friends
The heart of the island has a fertile valley that leads up into the large caldera that includes the highest part of La Palma.
This area can be reached utilising the cross island bus number 300 & then hiking.
The views from the mirador/viewing areas are breathtaking.
The problem can be that the trade winds from the North bring clouds as the moist sea air rises up 2600 metres over the rim of the caldera causing mid morning clouds that completely block any views. An early or late visit probably rewards anyone with a hired car.
The hiking up into The Valley is steep but not overly difficult. The free to enter visit centre and small botanic garden are useful reference points for say 45-60 mins visit.
Enjoy great scenery & pleasant hiking,

Fabulous views and landscape
Jan 2020
We pre-booked our parking space at La Cumbrecita (which you need to do if you are visiting in your hire car) and drove up from Los Cancajos. The views from up here are amazing, We did the Lomo de los Chozas circular walk (about one hour - including photo stops) which is a must if you are up here. If you are driving up I would recommend to do this you need to book a two hour slot which will give you plenty of time.

Awesome, truly awesome!
Jan 2020
Having read a lot about the geology of La Palma, I was looking forward to this first visit with great interest. The island is spectacular but the highlight of the first trip here was the three-hour hike from Roque de Los Muchachos to Pico de La Cruz. The views down into the Taburiente crater were simply awesome, some of the most amazing scenery I have seen anywhere in the world (and I am at 70 countries now). Our Islabonita Tours guide was very knowledgeable and made the six kilometer walk all the more enjoyable. Parts were hard on the knees but to experience the sights we saw is something not to be missed. We have already booked to go back later this year and the camera will again be at the ready. Those three people who rated this attraction as 'terrible' on Trip Advisor really did not know what they were looking at or who had not followed the information regarding visiting the peak!

An amazing natural wonder
Dec 2019
I went on an organised excursion during my visit to La Palma and the first stop was this natural wonder. It’s very peaceful walking through nature and admiring the rock formations and the flora around you. Really enjoyed my visit to this national park and it’s a gem of La Palma.

Wonderful peace in Stunning landscape
Jan 2020
A stunning site to behold from different points. Definitely worth visiting by La Cumbrecita visitors' centre, very easy to reach by bus or tax or car, from which taxis are also available though some walk the steep climb to the initial viewpoint or drive to the Parking Point. An easy walk from there takes you into the caldera and even this arthritic old lady with bronchial asthma found it very comfortable gently down for the first kilometre and gently up back again.
