- HayleyLondon, United Kingdom61 contributionsFresh airGreat hike, got to see pine trees (smelt refreshing), few different plants to see and the clouds as we hiked on a cloudy day, you can see other mountains around you when you’re slowly ascending. The hike isn’t hard it’s just a long walk, there are arrows painted on rocks to indicate which way to go. The view from the top would’ve been lovely if it wasn’t cloudy as we could see much around. But it was still an achievement to make to the top and back down by foot. Yes there is a military building when you reach the top, I know there is another summit on the same mountain but I’ve just ended up here.Visited September 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten September 21, 2023

She also explained things on the way and suggested activities at every stop. Her English is excellent! I cannot commend her enough! The trip is worth every penny! Thank you!Visited December 2023Traveled with friendsWritten December 11, 2023
- BadforeverLondon, Canada1,702 contributionsEasy to find with GPS; no trouble parking at 1000am; food truck in the parking lotWe drove in from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, and our car GPS (plus also Google Maps) took us right to the parking lot. Just before you arrive, there is a separate parking lot to a historic well. Once you arrive in the little parking lot with the food truck, you can climb up just a little bit further to the penultimate viewpoint. Know that the time of day is going to mean your camera may be looking directly into the sun. There are no bathrooms on site. The drive there can be half the fun if you use the lesser roads!Visited February 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten February 7, 2024
- AL P9 contributionsMust seeAmazing views. Perfect in the morning to admire the views. I recommend after that visit to take the route (with breathtaking scenery) on way to the village of Tejeda. Reminded me of a smaller version of The Grand Canyon. Tejeda is beautiful to walk around too.Visited February 2024Traveled with familyWritten February 18, 2024
- Glenn SEast Grinstead, United Kingdom424 contributionsAmazing viewsWe visited the "highest point" of the island on a morning of travelling through the centre of Gran Canaria and what a view we had. The first third of the roads up from MĂ spolamas and final third were good but middle third very narrow in places so be careful. There are a fair amount of places to park at the top and then the views.....wow! We had a fairly clear day and the views across the island were amazing. Further to this, very clear views of Tenerife were great including being able to make out Santa Cruz even though it's over 60 miles away. We could also see La Gomera and to the East, Fuertuventra. Well worth a visit.Visited May 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten June 5, 2024

Wow! Just wow! If you are looking to get away from the resorts and explore the true island, get a hire car and drive.
The drive in and around the mountains is certainly not for the faint hearted, although worth every hair pin bend, twists and single track road.
There is a lovely Spanish gentleman with a truck selling light refreshments, snacks and sun cream.
This is a fantastic area for hiking and trails in the “winter”. Unfortunately in excess of 40 degrees Celsius the day we were up, to hot for hiking!
Not recommend if you are a nervous driver or have passengers that experience motion sickness!

It’s possible to drive right up to the summit if you wish. However, we drove up to Llanos de la Pez and did a hike around the Llanos de la Pez circular. Just type in “Llanos de la Pez” into Google Maps for the starting point. There are picnic benches there and some toilets. We found our route using the Alltrails app. As others have said, the roads up the mountain are in very good condition, but they aren’t for the faint hearted!

Indeed. You can drive to the very top of Pico, grab a coffee and a cone from the food van and get the pictures, the views and fresh air without so much as breaking sweat.
This is how it should be. The alternative is spikes on your shoes, oxygen, ropes and sheer terror. No thanks.
Joking apart. A lovely scenic drive takes you up to the summit with stunning views. A day out may also include Roque Nublo (8km) from Pico.
The extended area is classified as Unesco Biodiversity. Easy to see why. Truly stunning.

Very easy road from the East Cost (from the Wes is more tricky), it is 1h00 from Maspalomas.
Small parking but you don't stay long so if you arrive before noon, it should be Ok.
+1 950m, highest point of Gran Canaria and you can also see the Roque Nuble just in front of you.
Definitely a very good spot for pictures but also if you want to start some walks within the foreSt & mountains (if so, go back and park your car just 5mn down the road, it will be easier and safer).

The drive alone is amazing with breathtaking views over the ever changing landscape. While driving to the peak we passed several small beautiful villages with white cottages, palm trees, orange trees, cacti and colorful flowers growing everywhere. As we had young, restless children we didn’t stop for long at the peak but it was worth the long drive.

We read that Pico De las Nieves was easy to get to from Maspolomas without having to spend out on a excursion or taxi. We don't drive and rely on bus routes. We read that a line 18 bus to Aycata then a simple 16 minute walk from Aycata would get us there but now we are in gran Canaria we are being told that it is almost impossible to do it this way and that from Aycata it would take a few hours to get there and not advised to try go there. This was going to be the highlight of our holiday and now it looks like we can't get there. We are in gran Canaria right now and was hoping if someone could tell us if the hotel and holiday reps could be wrong and maybe not clued up to the bus and walk routes? Can we get there easily and easily get back to and from Maspolomas using the line 18 bus and is it a short walk from Aycata? We don't drive and don't want to spend over 50 euros on a coach excursion or huge taxi fares to get there as we are a young couple on a tight budget. I need some time there as a keen photographer. Please can anyone help out here? Is it easy to get to or not using a line 18 bus? We found a website called Rome for u and it states it would be cheap as chips on a line 18 bus then a 16 minute walk??? I am confused?? Really need some help as leaving gran Canaria on Friday so pushed for time. Really want to go here. it was this place that drew us to the Island. :(

The question is way old, but in case some one like the OP (and me) does not drive still needs an answer - here it is :)
Yes, you can organize an easy and cheap hike to the top of Pico De las Nieves using buses. The best way is to catch the morning bus 18 from Maspalomas to Cruz Grande which takes an hour. From Cruz Grande popular view point follow Ruta de la Plata to climb the mountain. We are very experienced hikers and we actually ran so it is hard for me to judge the time but it is roughly 6 km one way. You catch the return bus from the same destination in the late afternoon. We diverted our route slightly to see another place too so we caught the bus at the next stop called Los Lomillos. Hope that helps have fun!
