My mum and dad, in their eighties, wanted to thank Aurora for the magical tour she gave of the theatre. The tour lasted an hour and a half and they have raved about is since. Aurora talked not only about the history of the theatre but also of
Las Palmas. Highly commended and thanks again to Aurora.

A most interesting tour both of the architectural aspects of the theatre and backstage lasting 1 hour (advertised as 40mins). Good explanation in English and great value at 1.8euro (possibly the price for retired persons?). Also open Mon mornings when a number of other attractions closed.

Janice, our guide on the tour of Teatro Perez Galdos, is clearly very knowledgeable about the history, architecture and art of this beautiful theatre. Having been on the Board of the theatre, she continues to be closely involved with developments. The framed photos she has personally acquired for display upstairs gave us a good insight into the history of the theatre and its main characters. I highly recommend this guided tour to anyone interested in history and the arts.

Teatro Pérez Galdós is the most important theater in the yg yg y y yc Gran Canaria island. It is located in front of Vegueta Market, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. I saw it from outside and it is a beautiful building, you do not expect more than this.

Perez Galdos has a touch of the old, but has recently been re-vamped to incorporate up to date acoustics and all the mod cons necessary to make it a world class concert venue.
It's concerts and opera productions are excellent, and it is perfectly placed in the delightful Las Palmas neighbourhood of Vegueta with its narrow streets and 18th century houses. A delightful place to hear music and opera.

Well-kept theatre with a lift to the upper floors. Rather steeply raked. Seats in the stalls behind each other rather than stepped so it's difficult to see ahead. Seats are comfortable, the theatre is air-conditioned, there's an orchestra pit so suitable for opera. The side boxes and amphitheatre side seats don't have much of a view of the stage. This is the main problem of the theatre. It's not very practical to try to have a drink in the interval, there's only one bar - on the ground floor - and only one in the immediate area, which is, naturally, crowded.

The theatre Pérez Galdós has been for ages the main theatre in Las Palmas. It´s situated in one of the best places in town, between Vegueta and Triana (the two main parts of old Las Palmas), very close to the sea and just in front of the Vegueta Market.

Two reasons for not missing a visit to Teatro Pérez Galdós:

1) The architecture. It was built in the late XIX century, in an eclectic style, but, after being destroyed by a fire, it was rebuilt in the 1920s by Miguel Martín, the main modernist architect in the Canary Islands. He preserved the original eclectic style in the exterior and in some of the noble parts, but he built a completely new auditorium in art-déco style. A very interesting contrast.

2) The opera season. The Pérez Galdós Theatre is the seat of the Opera Season.

It can also be visited.

This theater is situated at the limit between zones Triana and Vegueta, at the terminal stop of the “guaguas” yellow buses.
The theater was built between the years 1867 and 1890, named beforeTeatro Nuevo, then Teatro Tirso de Molina.
It was destroyed almost completely in a fire in 1918, and it was rebuilt until 1928, when the artist and painter Nestor gave his contribution to decorate the theater – salon Saint-Saens, the walls of the main hall and the stained glasses, Art Nouveau style.
Teatro Perez Galdos is the permanent headquarters of the Opera House Alfredo Kraus, and it is one of the most modern theaters of Spain.
Here it is an important tourist information point, with a very kind staff.
From the terrace of the theater you can have a superb panorama of the surroundings – Vegueta, Triana, and the river Guiniguada.

Our tour of the front and back stage and roof top was amazing: my friends and I had the guide all to ourselves and she did us proud, giving us a full 2 hours instead of the publicized 40 minutes....we sat in the lovely auditorium and visited the huge back stage; the rehearsal rooms the dressing rooms and the roof terrace which affords wonderful views of the commercial harbour. Sadly there was nothing on during our stay in Las Palmas.

We booked a music recital while we were on holiday. You can book online or at the box office, which is a concrete building at the side of but not connected to the theatre.

The theatre is small but ornate and the accustics were very good. There is a small bar for pre and interval drinks. It was a very enjoyable evening.
