About
This is the house where writer and dramatist Benito Perez Galdos (1843-1920) was born. He is regarded as the most important Spanish writer after Cervantes, as well as the main representative of the literary Realism in Spain, like Balzac, Zola and Flaubert in France, Fontane in Germany and Dickens in the United Kingdom. The House - Museum features furniture, works of art, ornaments, etc. that show both one of the places where the novelist spent his daily life and the atmosphere of a typical 19 th-century house in the Canary Islands.

An essential visit for Galdós readerd
Oct 2021
First of all - I am a fan, and this was one of the highlights of my visit to Gran Canaria. Galdós was born in this house and lived here until he went to Madrid aged 19. It is the only residence of his which remains and contains the furniture from the room he died in as well as many of his books and personal effects. Most importantly you can see many of the pieces of furniture that he designed for his home in Santander which has now been demolished. The furniture is Arts and Crafts in style and the guide on the tour will point out the pieces, as well as providing background on the great writer´s life.

Great old Canarian house
Dec 2019
You can visit the museum only as part of guided tour. I had to wait till 3 PM to take part so I had time to explore Vagueta and than return. The next tour is at 4 PM. The museum is not probably most visited I was only single person to turn up so I have 15 minutes private tour through pretty nice old house with central court yard. This is the house where the famous Spanish author was born and lived until he was 19 years old. And it is mainly dedicated to him. There is no entrance fee. There is good tapas and Jamoneria bar in the street.

Please note, unable to enter museum without resident tour guide present
Jan 2019 • Couples
May be unlucky, we visited museum 1.30 pm 30/1/19 to be informed that we were unable to visit museum without tour guide. As said guide was on lunch, we were advised to return at 3 pm. On return, we were informed that guide was unavailable, and could we return say 4pm.
Having travelled from Maspolamas to visit attraction, total waste of time.
Advice, phone ahead to museum to check the guide will be available at the time of your visit. Sadly museum open but no one available to let you see inside. No note on website to inform visitors of guide requirement and scheduled tours!

Nice museum from the most celebrated canarian author
Aug 2018 • Family
Nice items and explanations given. Some of the descriptions in English.
Cano street is also a good spot for drinks and food. I recommend "Quitapesares Tasca" or "Shack". Enjoy!

You must visit this house
Mar 2018 • Friends
it is amazing, the internal architecture and history in this house is stunning. We didn't realise but there was a guided tour by a very nice young lady so that was a real bonus. Don't miss this one.

Fascinating chance to see a traditional Canarian house
Feb 2018 • Couples
We were only visiting to see the building, but the guide was very interesting and introduced us to the Spanish version of Dickens. The building has some intriguing corners and I expect it would be a cool retreat in the summer months.
We only paid 1.50 euros (over 65s) and would recommend a visit. The guide spoke excellent English.

Atmospheric "Victorian" interiors
Jan 2018 • Solo
A well preserved house from the 19th century, full of the writer's personal furniture and knick-knacks. It gives a vivid picture of life in the 1890s, in a middle class milieu. The guides are very helpful.

A museum about the life of Pérez Galdós
Jun 2017 • Solo
Casa de Pérez Galdós is the house, where this writer lived in Gran Canary Island. Now it is converted in a museum and owners try to return to the original furniture or other furniture, which belonged to the writer, to the house. Interesting to know the life of Pérez Galdós, but not the best of the main city of the island.
