- RuthyGlasgow826 contributionsFabulousArrived in the Old Town which was fantastic to walk around and came upon this beautiful cathedral. Mass was being said so I could only go in at the side to light some candles. So glad I managed to do that as it let me see the beautiful inside of the Vegueta.Visited October 2023Traveled with friendsWritten October 10, 2023
- bubba193204 contributionsGreat day outWe caught the bus from playa ingles to Vegeta 35 mins €4 absolutely loved it what a beautiful old town , we went in the cathedral € 4 including the tower and museum brilliant well worth the money. We then walked up to the La Luz Castle €2 entrance and well worth the hike after that around the corner to the beautiful Playa de Las Canteras . back on the bus a great day outVisited October 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten October 15, 2023
- micheal bBradford, United Kingdom132 contributionsExploring Las PalmasHad a great day out exploring the old town at Las Palmas city while on holiday. Although I could have got a local cab , I chose to walk the 30 mins from my hotel to take in the sights on the way. Well worth the visit, unfortunately could not get into the church on main square due to time of day of my visit. Although open later in but the queue was horrendous. Great place to visit and eat , well worth a visit.Visited August 2023Traveled soloWritten February 3, 2024
- MysojoBath, United Kingdom43 contributionsNice city to spend the day.Visited the cathedral. Walkable area as partly pedestrianised. There was a good selection of cafes/restaurants to make frequent stops and the usual high street stores for shopping. Great view of the city from the top of the cathedral tower.Visited July 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten July 10, 2024

Really beautiful oldest part of Las Palmas. Architecture is authentic and the plaza outside the cathedral is breathtaking and a real photo-op. The gardens are well kept and everything is pristine. Definitely worth the trip on the bus or hop on and off

Vergueta is the most beautiful district of Las Palmas. Easy to get to from Las Palmas Centre (no 1 bus 1.40euros)
What to visit - start at the Tourist Information Office where the lovely Patricia will give you all the information that you need.
We recommend wandering round the streets and Plaza de Santa Ana, the cathedral, the Casas Consistoriales, the market, the Plaza del Espiritu Santo for its fountain, the Casa Colon, the Ermita de San Telmo, lunch ar Foodismo (a great little cafe by the market), then wander to Triana, the next district ten minutes walk away.
Easily two days entertainment here.

We went to visit the old town and the historical monuments but ended up getting to excited on the cheap prices in Mango and flying tiger. Our flights back home were later that evening so we just took it easy. There are picturesque streets and the prices here quite expensive for food etc. Unless you’re interested in cathedrals etc I don’t think it’d be worth it.

Canarian approached us on streets close to cathedral in Las Palmas to change two euro piece into smaller change for car parking charge. When I offer two single euros, he insisted he needed smaller coins so I open the coin zip section of my wallet and stupidly allow him to pick the coins from inside.
Whilst doing this he must have removed all of the euro notes from the main section of the wallet right in front of my eyes without me seeing it!!
I only noticed two hours later when paying for drinks at a bar.
The only good news was not accessing the cards in my wallet.
Feel so angry and so stupidly naive but beware...they are very clever with sleight of hand.
Do not allow them to touch anything!!!

The market is worth wandering around if, like us, you like local markets
Lovely lookimg fresh fish and a wide selection of fruit and vegetables. We fell for the tourist hype of having a snack lunch from the stalls st the back of the market
The wine was good and good value, but the coffee Americano cost 4 euros(!) And the ham sandwich was stale and soggy, only ate it because we were hungry!

It was a rainy day, otherwise this would have been an excellent day. The little back streets with bars, cafe's and bodega's was a pleasure to potter around getting a really good feel about the place.
Cathedral is well worth a visit, stunning and peaceful inside.
We had travelled up for the day from Puerto de Mogan, but saw enough of Vegueta and las Palmas that if visiting Gran Canarias again we would spend a couple of nights here to enjoy the bars and bodegas of Vegueta. Don't miss pottering around the fruit markets

This lovely area of Las Palmas is a pleasure to wander around and admire the beautiful squares and historic buildings. Also some fabulous artisan type shops selling good quality items, like Polaroid sunglasses that are made on the island, jewellery and other local products. For refreshments we visited a great cafe in the square by the theatre that served fantastic fresh orange juice.

Vegueta or Old Town is a place which will be loved by the people who like architecture and historical buildings. The small lanes with old buildings, shops and beautiful Catedral in the centre are worth seeing.

The Mercado de Vegueto is a traditional city market in the old part of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Take in the cathedral and Casa de Colon while you're there. Assuming. you have found a parking place for your car. Only use the spaces in white lines or you may get a ticket!

The old part of town is worth a visit and the Vegueta is a quiet and beautiful setting. The climb to the bell tower reveals some stunning views of the East coast of the island (there is a lift) and only cost a couple of Euros. Free admission if you don't want the view!

Is there a public car park in/near Vegueta?
Written July 22, 2018
There is a public parking directly at the market hall in Vegueta. Don't know the prices. It is easy to find as it is directly between the atlantic ocean and the market hall (red building) ;)

E' difficile a Capodanno trovare locali aperti. Ti consiglio di provare con l'Hotel Reina Isabel . Il Ristorante è buono e godi di una veduta panoramica notevole sulla Playa de Las Canteras.
