We spend two weeks holiday in this region, from 10th to 24th October in Playa la Calera.

The town of Valle Gran Rey includes the three villages of La Calera, La Puntilla and Vueltas.

During our holiday we walked along the Promenade de Playa de la Calera, it took us through La Calera, La Puntilla leading to Vueltas and the Port. En route we visited the beaches of the three villages and the Port

Walking away from the seafront we strolled through the narrow streets where we saw unusal buildings, wall art, oddities all combining to create an adventure filled with surprises.

The unusual sights are side by side with historic, traditional, commercial and cultural buildings.

There are numerous restaurants, cafés, bars and a wide variety of artisan, souvenir and supermarkets throughout the region

The Valley is formed by the two large cliffs, La Merica 983 metres high on one side and Teguerguenche 497 metres on the other.

Walked here from the church about half way to the top and really deserved a good lunch followed by a cooking dip in the sea. Wish we had thought about how hot the black sand would be as it took us by surprise in October. Everyone else on the beach must have had asbestos backing to their towels as they seemed to be sitting comfortably.

Definitely the most relaxed spot on La Gomera. The weather was perfect in the week we spent there. There are a number of nice bars where you can enjoy a drink and just sit and watch. Good eating places, too. Not too far from exciting walks. We loved it.

Here you can select from quite good beaches with clear waters, fascinating plants incl. palm groves, and impressive landscape.

Very nice clean and well-organised town. Spent four days here at Apartementos Charco del Conde close to a safe and fine little beach in arguably the nicest part of the town. Close to some of the best restaurants. Easy to take a bus uphill and walk along one of many hiking tracks.

Small nice town full of local restaurants and many places to stay. Germans everywhere.. Easy to find day trecking in the area. Not so much good beaches. Very beautiful town!

The February wind picked up dramatically on two days during my stay and people gathered on the sea wall just down from the Playa Calera Hotel to watch the waves grow and curl and crash. VW Combies and other wagons started arriving. Long-haired guys in wetsuits, clutching surfboards and wearing huge grins headed into the water. Everyone was open-mouthed at the daring of the bodyboarders and surfers as they tackled the breakers. In the evening, the beach was alive with the sound of drums, guitars and any other musical instruments that came to hand to play with the rhythm of the waves as the sun went down. Magical and exhilarating!

Must see place in La Gomera. I think it’s the warmest region in that island. Nice art workers and small shops. Delicious and cheap food at La Cofradia de Pescadores in the harbour.

The highlight is the drive down as the valley opens up offering different perspectives of the ravine at the end of which the resort sits. Once you get down there is a small town and a beach - but little more to do.

Spent one day here (bus trip from San Sebastian) during covid crisis. 3 bus stops along sea front.

Best beaches on La Gomera. Less windy, smooth entrance into sea that is warm for swimming. Fishes acco
pany the experience!

Some have fine sand, some individual lagoons have shail and/or rocks.

Most restaurant and bars open, some seaside trinket shops and a supermarket open.

Nice to sit in beach that is family and feminine friendly without the hassle of someone trying to sell you something! We were left alone to enjoy the view and swim whilst soaking up the sun.
