Absolutely beautiful little beach. There is one restaurant there that serves great cocktails at good prices. There is carpark and bus 10 mins walk and you can also walk there from Cala Galdana town - about 30 mins. Fantastic spot

I think there are better beaches than this one - there is Macaralleta next door for a start, and I think Trebagular is better too.

Given it is busy, there's an argument that you may as well stay at Cala Galdana too, as it is not as if you are coming to a quiet, deserted beach. But of course the trees and natural setting is attractive.

The sand on this beach seemed coarser and the sea not as inviting as those other beaches mentioned above.

Its a 2km walk each way from Cala Galdana, in partial shade at best, with a bit of an up and down involved. So be prepared for that.

I'd say you need to go to Macaraletta too in order to make it worthwhile.

The vehicle access to Macarella is now limited to the shuttle bus from Ciutadella which means it doesn’t get too busy.be warned, though, as the walk from the car park is still about 15 minutes and is a hike back up a steepish path.
There is still a bar operating at the beach, but no umbrellas or recliners to hire, so take your own. You can get shade under one of the trees, however.
The cove is very pretty and the water calm, so well worth a visit if you don’t mind the walk!
Also, book your bus tickets in advance for a specific time to make sure you get a seat!

Really beautiful beach. Super famous and popular. Even if only reacheable by bus, foot or boat, it gets easily and rapidly too crowded. Relatively large a good shaded sand area. Easy walk. Also if on flip flops.

Lovely beach. Great snorkelling, soft sand, food and bathrooms available and shade from pine trees for those of us with pasty white flesh! Best way to get there is either by bus (from Ciutqdella - book in advance) or by walking from nearby cala galdana. Bit of an uneven rocky trek in places if you walk by other than the beginning and end its actually a very pleasant walk and do able in flip flops.

NO PARKING AT CALA MACARELLA, YOUR CAR WILL BE VANDALIZED. Details below...

So we visited Cala Macarella today along with Cala Macarelleta and Cala en Tourqueta. We thoroughly researched where to go and what to see before leaving. From a mixture of travel guides, Trip Advisor, google maps satellite view and maps.me, we planned our route to the Cala Macarella free parking. Knowing we had to get there early to get a spot we woke up at 06:00 and were there by 07:45. Driving in on the narrow roads we passed signs directing us towards either the parking for Cala Macarella or Cala en Tourqueta. Finally we arrived at a sign saying “Parking Gratis 750m”, when we entered the parking lot there was only one other car. Feeling accomplished we parked and set off for a day of beach hopping on all three beaches. This is where it all goes downhill.

Turns out that the only parking for this group of beaches is the Cala en Tourqueta parking lot and the lot which we parked in is supposed to be accessed by shuttle bus only. Apparently there is some sort of park enforcement committee that blocks off the road going to the Cala Macarella parking lot and puts up signs indicating that it is not allowed (this happens sometime after 07:45 since none of this was there when we entered in the morning). In their infinite wisdom they decided to leave up all the outdated signs guiding people to a free parking lot and they only tell people not to enter when they feel like it.

The result? When we returned to our car it had been vandalized with 3 flat tires requiring a tow back to Mahon and an 850 euro rental car bill. All this for putting in the research, planning ahead and getting there early. And the absolute kicker isn’t the person who vandalized our car, it’s every other person we interacted with after realizing. We would tell them what happened and they would say “of course your car was vandalized, this 500 car lot is busses only!” Then we would reply with “well where are the signs?” Pointing to the bright blue sign saying parking gratis 750m... Their only reply was “busses only, old sign”

So then I ask if this sort of thing happens a lot, and they assure me it does. So where is the problem here then? Is it with the numerous tourists following direction in travel guides and gps imagery and even posted road signs? Or maybe just put up a permanent sign.

As for the beaches, Tourqueta was overcrowded even early in the morning, there were biting insects and it smelled of swamp. Macarella was decent but the sand was full of residue and not soft. Macarelletta was absolutely astounding and is everything you want in a Menorquin beach, crystal blue water, perfect sand, tall rock cliffs to either side and a gentle breeze flowing through.

Anyway, that’s our story. I hope it helps someone else.

Start from the bridge at Cala Galdana. Take the walk up the hill which is steep but is easy. I once did this walk in Mules but that is another story. There are wondeful views out to sea.
The walk takes you through a pine forest, and there are viewing points which give you sea and coastal panoramas.
This walk takes you to about 200 steps to the lovely beach. We have always gone out of season but I can understand if it was packed. Like many bays it is small but the water is a blue and beautiful and on a sunny day ...

After reading all of the reviews and driving down the narrow roads to get to the parking space, we were told only buses are going to the beach for the summer. The bus stop was in the city (Ciutadella) and we did not want to drive back there, wait for a bus and then have to do the same to get back. We skipped this beach and went to Cala Turqueta instead, but I was very disappointed :(

Never has a Spanish beach had so much hype, and so many varied reviews. It's odd that the huge car park is not used, that the only way in there is by bus (at least in Sept. 2018), and that there are checkpoints to get there. The beach is adequate, but grubby, the water is cloudy, and the whole place less "virgin" than you would be led to believe. At least the buses are efficient.

Unbelievable beauty!!
You can go there only by special bus which drops you 30 minutes walk away from the beach thought the woods.
Blue clear water, nice calm beach where you can enjoy the sun, have snack at the restaurants nearby, take shower and go back home. Also there is a place that you can hike and get to Macarellata the smaller paradise.
A must visit for EVERYONE!!
