We asked at our hotel in Es Castell about visiting the island and they advised the departure was from Muelle Del Hospital and there was a sign near the entrance road. We did a recce a few days before and confirmed 9am on Sundays.
We got taken across by some volunteers in a boat and had a good tour round, a bit too much medical information for our tastes but extremely informative. Work is still progressing so you had to avoid volunteers drilling etc.
We looked in the art gallery but a little too modern for us.
Anyway we spent an enjoyable morning there but when it came time to get back to Es Castell we couldn’t find anyone who spoke English, never mind any volunteers who could return us to the mainland. We had to take the yellow catermaran and go to Mahon and then try and find a taxi back - another tale!

We took our children (9, 7 & 4) on the 9am Sunday ferry for the tour of the Old Military Hospital. We were the only English speakers on the boat and had our own guide as a result. Lorraine was very informative and patient with the endless questions from the children. The island is really worth visiting and the lovingly restored Hospital is fascinating. Under the leadership of “the General” it has been carefully returned to a beautiful state. The care taken by the volunteers shines through the informative displays. We had a very nice fresh lemonade and slice of cake in the cafe then visited the art gallery and walked round the perimeter of the island. The views are fabulous and the island has lizards everywhere that are apparently unique to it. Well worth a visit!

We went to visit the gallery which was amazing
Afterward we went to have dinner with our friends at La Canitna.
DO NOT order the fish / catch of the day without asking how much it cost.... we paid for ONE DAURADE €110. 00 ....
Will NEVER Eat off the menu. A total rip off

Visits to the naval hospital museum, run by a team od dedicated volunteers, are limited to Sundays, but Hauser & Wirth Menorca has opened an art gallery in part of the old naval hospital storage area, which is open every day during the summer, and Wed-Sun in the autumn. Access is by ferry (5€ if booked on line, 6€ if tickets bought on the ferry service, with free access to the exhibition), with boats leaving on the hour & return boats on the half hour.
The current artist on display is Mark Bradford, on the theme "Mass and Movement". Thought provoking and attractive.

What a hidden treasure. A hospital with historical significance, on an island in the middle of a stunning bay, that delivers in bucketloads! The restoration project, begun by volunteers and continued with grants and sponsors, provides a rich journey through both medical history and the port of Mahon. Our guide Alison was excellent... fun and informative. Highly recommend.

The reasonably early rise is a small price to pay for an island experience that delivers a wealth of history beyond expected!

We went to the Isle de Rey with the family and were given a tour around the island by our guide Beverley Ward. The tour was both excellent for the whole family and our 3 grandchildren, Beverley was very informative at all levels. Would highly recommend the tour 😊

Great experience. Take the yellow boat at 10h00 from Mahon (Maó) and come visit this historic island with guided visit from local lovers of their history. The "Isla del Rey" is being restructered since 2014 by local voluntaries giving of their free time in order to give back to the place the greatness it deserves.

Come visit it without hesitation. Great moment with passionated people.

A lovely trip to take with the family or if you are interested in History and restorations.
The volunteers are very enthusiastic and are working together to restore this historic site.
Also included is a boat ride across Mahon Harbour - which is a great way to see it early morning.
We look forward returning next year once the Art Gallery has been installed.
