Built on the site of the medieval convent of San Filippo Neri, it was the seat of the Spanish Inquisition until 1838, now it is a square that hosts a market four days a week. It is all enclosed by the buildings that surround it, buildings that did not particularly impress me. Of course there are various clubs and restaurants. Going down a staircase you can quickly reach Passeig de Born.

Central and historical square, with restaurants all around. Largely a place to pass through if going towards Placa del Cort and Placa d’Espana. Can be quiet and chilled on a late afternoon / early evening. ‘Gallerias’ shopping mall underneath.

Plaça Major is the main square and it is located in Palma, the main city in Majorca Island. It is a square located, where there was a monastery and it was finished in the 20th Century. It is built to seem typical arcaded squares in some Castilian towns. Nowadays, it has some bars and restaurants and some people making the statue, curious. A very known point in Palma.

This square is not major by any standards, not by size or restaurant options which seem to have diminished lately. Continueing straight through you reach livelier Sant Miquel shopping street full of shoestores.
At the far end are stairs leading down to La Rambla boulevard which doesn't either make a great impression.

I am sad and dismayed to see that the city tolerates horseback riding. How sad for these poor animals!!! Please tourists don't keep this business going and move on, there are so many beautiful things to see by other means.

Beautiful space in the middle of town. I wonder what living there looks like ? Bits of art dotted around and some restaurants that looked a bit touristy ? That might be unfair. Some street hawkers at the entrances but no hassle from anyone. Enjoyed walking through a few times during the day.

Placa Mayor is the main central square in every Spanish town, as well in overseas ex colonies where it's mostly called Plaza de Armas.
Usually, it's a big rectangular square with residences and offices on upper floors, while on the ground floor are bars, restaurants and markets from time to time.
That's just the case here, in Palma, however don't expect much. The square is pretty small and I'd rather consider it a walk through attraction than spending some time here.

Placa Major. The heart of most spanish towns and cities. And that's the case here as well.
Shops, restaurants and market stalls all line up. A busy place where people meet. National and international. And it's a nice place, nice architecture all around.
But for great food or a great shopping deal you should head elsewhere. But for a walk, for some pics or to sit down for a drink to watch the world go by it's definitely a perfect spot.
The looks, the atmosphere...it just feels like vacation. An enjoyable spot in town. Surely not to be missed on your first visit to Palma.

We visited here while on a cruise. Beautiful square well worth visiting. Huge rectangular surrounding buildings with lovely windows. Lots of craft stalls in the centre with traders selling local crafts.

I was expecting a little more from this square, not really much going on at all, a small choice of Cafés to have coffee, just not as grand as I expected.
