Famous for lamb slowly cooked for hours in a rock - oven. Simply but good and fresh food,
even Gambas and Fish ( for no meat eaters ). Prices a reasonable
and the view over Alaró and the Tramuntana is spectacular...
The road is not very good up to the mountains but they have
enough parking space. Another 45 Min. walk and you can visit the Castell d`Alaró ( 835 m ).

We started the hike from the Restaurant half way up, due to 3 kids.
The Hike was great even though it was mega cloudy. Make sure you go all the way up to the sanctuary and have a coffee up there. Unfortunately the restaurant is totally overrated now.
Our tour took around 3-4 hours with a little picnic on top.

the castle is something like a national sanctuary, so prepare to share the wonderful sight with lots of other people, especially on weekends. But worth seeing even than (must be fantastic, if you are alone...)

If you at least enjoy a bit of walking and nice views than this is a place to visit. There is quite large plateau on the top (on two levels) with some ruins on lower part and church and some other objects on higher part of plateau. You can enjoy in nice views towards Palma on one side and towards Serra de Tramuntana and
Puig Major (highest peak with radar dome) on the other side.
I took path from Coll d' Orient (about 1km before village Orient). It is not easy to park, because you need to squeeze your car by the road. But the path is nice, especially when passing some old olive trees (olivos centenarios). Second part is more steeper - the path is well signed. From Coll d' Orient to the Puig d'Alaro and back there is about 6km with 360m of ascent.

I went almost up to the castle but I had to stop very short before getting there as the "road" ends and I was on a push bike so no way to climb up with racing bike shoes! Despite the road is not a road x push bike I have enjoyed climbing and once you are there the view is amazing!

If you start the walk from the city of Alaro up to the Castell on top of Puig d'Alaro, it's most impressive - you feel the climbing and live the impressively high location! How did they get their building materials there? It's a beautiful spot, but choose a day with open air to enjoy the views at the full!
