Not only a beautiful cathedral, but a hotspot to understand the history of this marvelous city. Located in the old quarter, this cathedral is a gem to visitors and locals.

The old cathedral of Vitoria is not a very special one arquitectonically speaking. Despite so, it is worth visiting because the visits (only guided, as the cathedral is still being refurnished) round about the process of construction and integration of the building in the city since the Middle Age. The visit comprise the basements, crypt, external walls and tower. And... More

This cathedral is in Victoria Gasteiz. You are shown around the Gothic Cathedral which is currently being renovated. Our tour guide was excellent. You need to book ahead. Tours in English not a problem. A must when in Vitoria.

I joined the guided tour (8.5€) which put this into perspective. A beautiful cathedral. Still being restored. Costing over 2 million € over the last 10+years. The tour lasts just an hour but you get a good overall guide. I live near to Canterbury and this reminds me of the Cathedral.

Most of the church is under scaffoldings and since it's inside a crowded old city district, it's hard to see anything from outside. Unless you take the guided tour of the restoration works, there's nothing to do here. If you are a group you might even get one in English, be sure to register online to vote for the language.... I went with a friend and I got a tour in English. The church is a truly magnificent and interesting piece of architecture and part of the history of Vitoria-Gasteiz. I can't wait to come back when the construction is finished!

This church almost collapsed. It is build on a difficult site and is restored at this moment. Visitors can get a guided tour on wednesdays. The church is not open on other days. Very interesting to see all the concrete work that is done in the basement. Even more special is the tour over the balconies in the top of... More

We went on a hard hat tour of the restoration work of Santa Maria. We were in a small group and it was all in Spanish but we understood enough. It was fascinating seeing the restoration work in the crypt and up high inside the walls as well.
