We had originally decided to go to the sea, but as the weather wasn't so good, we decided to go to this city instead, and boy, were we glad we did!
We didn't know what to expect, so it was such a surprise to find such a pretty place, with all the buildings on different levels (there's quite a bit of climbing!), lots of churches to visit and the city walls to walk around.
Unfortunately we didn't know that the Cathedral can only be visited with a guided tour. When we arrived, the tour in English had just left, and the next one was in 1 hour's time, in Spanish, so if you go, check times before.
The Basque influence is much more visible here, so please try to find time to visit it if you are in the area.
Much better than Bilbao!

We happened across the park along the old city wall and were quite impressed with the display and history. Vitoria is a beautiful city and every park, street, and display we saw were well done.
I visited the city on business and it was so nice I brought my wife on the next visit. Lots to see and do, inexpensive and the people are very friendly. If you like to stroll, wine and dine this is a very nice city to experience.

The old town hides amazing buildings, city walls, stories and great pinchos and cafés.
Additionally you have the green ring, with forest and parks all around the city, to hike, walk, ride, run...

Vitoria-Gasteiz City Walls are located in the Old Town and are one of the best preserved and original medieval walls in Europe. These defensive walls are beautiful during the day and at night.

I traveled here as a day trip from where I live in La Rioja. It’s not too far from several cities, so it makes for the perfect day trip.

At first the atmosphere in this town felt a little uptight. Lot's a bars, lot's of young people hanging around, quite hard rock or alternative. We did not know what to make of it. Unexpectedly we ran into a lot of murals in this town. We read that there are a lot of art students in this town, and the city is of cultural importance. We were unfortunately too late for the museum. But this is a town I recommend for a stop! The mix of old city walls, young people, and nice terraces is enough for a nice day.

Very special experience! Just like getting lost in the old city while finding a new city within it. It was a great weather when I attended the tour which made it ever better.

The walls give you the feelings of as if you are in the medieval ages itself. You can imagine soldiers and archers in the wall and people going on about their chores inside the city walls. You can take a walk along the walls and get into the restaurant area where you can enjoy tasty snacks as well. A very well preserved place.and worth visiting.

We had an enjoyable time visiting the walls. They're not as impressive as other walls in Spain, such as Lugo or Avila, but they are worth a trip to see. The main section worth looking at has a walkway around the outside and you can see some excavations of various sections, with some very nice gardens and one of the city murals there too. To be honest, we couldn't be bothered with a guided tour, as the various interpretative boards are useful enough. You can walk through an old city gate and see the full height of the walls and the various sections that were formed over the years.
Most of the walls are hidden by houses, so it is a limited sight. Worth dropping by as you walk around the old town.

Great place to learn about the history of Vitoria. The choice of listening to the recording in English made us smile....broad Scottish accent - or you could choose castellano or Basque! Everything also in Braille and wheelchair access no problem! The town even has pavement escalators to help you up the many hills!
