About
Tabakalera is a centre for contemporary culture that has two purposes: to be a place of production and to offer a programme of public activities. These two aims run through every part of the project which revolves around creating, training based on reflection, and exhibiting. As well as being a place which helps artists and creators turn professional, it also puts together a programme for differents audiences and makes outreach tools available for the general public. The main goal of Tabakalera's cultural project is to promote the creation of contemporary culture in different creative fields and in all its stages (research, production, exhibition), as well as to generate and share knowledge. With this aim in mind, it focuses on four lines of work that make up its programme: contemporary artistic practices, mediation, digital culture laboratories - Hirikilabs - and Tabakalera's creation library - Ubik -.

An average space for conferences and public events, with free wifi. There is a nice terrace on the 5th floor with a great view of the city.

Great location for old town and beach - not far to walk. But this is not a hotel. They are lovely rooms - immaculately clean with superb bed and bedding in a trendy contemporary space but with no facilities.
The staff team are excellent and should be proud of themselves.
Parking is a premium so there is a large car park 100m away but we did get stuck there twice as out hotel parking tickets was not recognised and we couldn't get any sense out of the 'on-line assistant' despite my husband being able to converse in several languages.
The cafe is outside and round the corner. Nice but nothing special.
I found it annoying that after a day touristing about i was desperate for a cup of tea before bed and there was no where to get one late .
The best place to eat was the Italian across the road and up a bit - superb people - fab food and served a spanking cup of tea.

Friends, who live in San Sebastian, took us here to see how this huge former tobacco factory has been transformed fairly recently into an arts center, open to the public for free. When we visited in April, two contemporary art exhibitions were being held. We went to both and neither appealed to us, but future temporary exhibitions may have more of a wow factor.
Big rooms on each floor held seating and some greenery. These softened the effect of much space with little in it at the time to promote research, production and exhibitions in different creative fields. But we did see people reading books and others working at tables. Musical instruments stood in one area, waiting to be played. Films are shown in screening rooms and many lectures get scheduled throughout the year.
I think that many of Tabakalera's offerings may likely appeal more to local residents than short-term visitors. That said, I really enjoyed the stunning view of the city from the fifth floor and I liked the pleasant coffee shop on the ground level. Floors can be accessed by elevator or stairs. I recommend walking at least one flight of stairs to see something of the beautiful old wooden staircase.
Tabakalera is located next to the Estacion del Norte railway station and the Cristina Enea Park. Its daily activities, such as films, workshops, concerts, etc., are listed online.

Forget the off putting "international centre for contemporary culture". This is one of the most amazing new cultural centres in Europe today. The old tobacco factory has been transformed. Its worth a visit just for that wow factor (and to get out of the rain). Wander around and see what can be done. Exhibitions, films, performances are al there but the top item is a new type of library, a makers room where 3D printing, self publishing, rock band playing (now that is a first in a library). Just go and marvel.

The Tabakalera (a former tobacco factory now Arts Centre) is an ideal city centre location for exploring San Sebastián especially if you arrive by bus (bus station less than five minutes away on foot). The hotel is very modern in terms of design with modern art dotted round the public areas and exposed pipes and bare walls in guest rooms (presumably a nod to its industrial past). Rooms are spacious, quiet, rain shower is great and staff very friendly. Large flat screen TVs in rooms. Special praise to receptionist, Inaki who was so welcoming and explained at length what to see and do in the city.

By all means admire this renovated building outside and inside but be aware that it is largely an empty space. Good views from the top floor terrace. Avoid the coffee shop on the ground floor which is a complete rip-off.

We visited this place following the recommendation of our local friend. Although the place is really nice with a high quality crowd, all activities and available options were designed for locals. Therefore, we could not really find an activity for us and left this place after a quick visit of all five floors which is actually an old tobacco manufacturing facility converted to a cultural center in a very nice and elegant way.

I'm not one for writing a review here just because I have a poor experience at a location, but when a) the waiter accuses me of buying the cheaper product because it's cheaper and b) charges MORE for the product advertised, and is then RUDE well, he clearly is in the wrong profession. When purchasing a coffee, I don't expect to be accused of being "tight" and secondly, if it says 1.10 for a coffee, I don't then expect to pay 1.40, because they haven't changed the prices on the board. For information, i speak fluent Spanish so was able to transmit my complaints. They were ignored. Nice space though

This building is beautiful and functional. We've seen quite a few movies there and have also gone to just hang out. It has many interesting spaces and exhibitions. Well worth the walk.
