Ultimate San Sebastian Pintxos & Wine Tour (Evening)

301 reviews
San Sebastian is known for its incredible food scene, and this tour is the perfect way to experience it. Taste your way around the Old Town and visit six family-run pintxos (Basque tapas) bars for delicious tastings. It’s a great way to learn about local cuisine, and discover local haunts that you might not find otherwise. Tastings include acorn-fed Iberian ham, local beef, award-winning cheesecake, wine, cider, and more.

I would not suggest anybody going there as it is very disappointing with little to do but look at a few shops and a food market which was very pleasant albeit very restricting, if you like Zara then this is the place! T Delmage

Pretty interesting. Lots of meat and seafood. Few other local products. Interesting. Right in the middle of the main drag , very close to MickyDs as a land mark

These markets apparently opened in 2005 in a new building in the centre of the city. On the ground floor there were a good number of fresh food stalls selling meats, fruit and vegetables, a wonderful array of fish, cheese and delicatessen goods and flowers. Downstairs there was a very large supermarket as well as a few more market stalls. The whole place was very well set out and very clean. There were also a couple of retail shops and cafes. Looking at all the fresh produce we regretted not having self catering accommodation and not staying a few more days.

It's not a traditional market with live animals like we have in Asia. It's modern and clean and has tons of fresh fish, meats, and produce. They also have a delightful selection of wines, beers, and bottled waters, as well as Swiss chocolates, cookies, olive oil, nuts and fruits. Upstairs are a variety of shops, including Zara.

I found this indoor modern market to be more like a small shopping mall with a few stores, such as Zara and franc, some cafes, a supermarket and traditional stalls. These offered many choices, including meat (mostly ham), fish, baked goods and produce. All products were nicely presented and the area was kept clean. The one vendor I spoke with did not understand English but we still managed to communicate. We went to the traditional market on a Saturday afternoon when some of the stalls had already closed and few customers were around. I missed the lively interactions that I've seen at other such markets in Europe and suspect that the atmosphere would have been different earlier in the day. But, whatever the ambiance, this would probably be a good place to pick up the makings for a picnic or food supplies if staying in a vacation apartment. Mercado de San Martin is open Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
