We are staying at an airbnb not 20 meters from this historic church. as others have described the inside alter is the masterpiece but my wife and I were taken away by all the details on the façade. I will add some photos. This historic site is well worth the time to stop and view as part of the old town experience.

Perfectly located in the old town. Can be viewed from the start of nagusia street. Surely not to be missed when visiting San Sebastián. Small fee to visit the inside: €3 for just the interior & extra €2 for the museum inside. Nice restaurant just in front where customers would sit on the steps of the basilica during busy hours.

A stunning church (as many are in Spain). Definitely worth the time to take a stroll through the church.

You need to visit this church. When we visited the organist was playing, pure magical. Truly lovely, and very spiritual.

Baroque style 18th century beautiful church (outside view) in old town with rich rococo facade built in the site of the first Roman style church of 12th century. Very interesting story to me is the Catedral(Buen Pator) was build on the other end of long straight street (Mayor/Hermani) so that one can be seen from the other. In 1973, Pope Paul VI elevated the status to Basilica of Saint Mary of Assumption.
It is OK to collect 2 Euros/person but inside cannot be seen with almost no light. Hard to walk. Only a lower half of altar is poorly lit. All historical paintings and famous 1862 was unable to see even where they are. Church attendant knew it. Except us and one more, all other visiters u-turned at the entrance. Regret for Christians and tourists. (Dec 26, 2014)

While exploring the old town or Parte Vieja in San Sebastian, you will most likely stumble by Santa Maria del Coro. It is a beautiful gothic church, right in the heart of Parte Vieja.

The best road to really experience the artwork on the facade of the church is Calle Mayor. My girlfriend and I recommend visiting at different times of the day, as the sun really alters the look of the facade.

The inside of the church is also quite breathtaking.

We recommend taking some time to visit the church while in Parte Vieja, even if it is just to look at the outside facade. It is a staple of Donostia and is architecturally breathtaking.

The church is open to the public, but does close for mass and special religious events.

Enjoy!

This huge cathedral dominates the old town of San Sebastian and has many beautiful features - bell towers, clocks, arches and carvings make this a very attractive church.

We always visit the local cathedral. This time we came out feeling sad, not uplifted. Why? The Basilica is built into the rock of the hillside and smells very strongly of damp, as well as being rather dark. A hotch-potch of altar pieces donated from around Spain seemed disjointed
