Wonderful walk, the entire hill is very fairy tale like, especially the old cementery is magical. Beware if you're in January/February - access to Mount Urgull is closed if the weather is bad. I tried three times before finally succeeding to enter because the week...More

We were in San Sebastian on New Years Day and decided to hike to the top of Monte Urgull. I have a weak ankle but we meandered and enjoyed the stops along the way. There many written historical notes along the way and it was...More

This hike was great for a nice view of the city and La Concha from above. There are numerous routes up to the castle at the top, some with steps, others more gradual but longer distance. We went down the backside of the hill on...More

What a great view from the top of Monte Urgull, not sure we found the most direct way up or down, but it was worth it, the views from the top over the bay are stunning. The paths are a little uneven in places, steep...More

A fairly challenging walk, up and downhill, sometimes on uneven ground not recommended for all. The views get even better as you climb to the top on the winding paths and trails, by the peak they are breathtaking. Great statue at the top and unbelievable...More

It was great to get out of the town for an hour or two, and walk up here to get some great views of the city. There are a few different routes up and the views at the top are worth it, as is the...More

It's a nice hike to the top in the winter but be advised that the museum at the top is closed in winter. The bar indicated on all of the signs is also closed in winter.

It was a bleak day which made the walk up this hill invigorating! No overheating here on what was a 5-10C day. Stormy conditions made for big waves, a spectacular sight crashing on to the seawall and nearby island. The museum at the top is...More

Some public parking nearby but not at base of path. You can drive to the top but takes away from the experience.

Beach & Picnic Question (0 Replies)
Hi there, Does anyone know if you can rent beach umbrellas/chairs on La Concha? I've read they are available on the neighboring beaches but not much for this beach. Also, my husband and I are looking to have a picnic at either the beach or Monte Urgull. Do either of these locations allow alcohol? Thank you for your time!

Monte Urgull and Monte Igueldo at night (6 Replies)
Want to take photos at night, using tripod, from just before sunset to a little afterwards. Is there still transportation available at night? I see that the funicular to Igueldo closes at 21:00 in July, which may not be much later than sunset in the summer (June, July). And I heard there are buses which go up to the fort on Urgull but do they run at night? Alternatively, are there places to park up on either Urgull or Igueldo, as I can drive a car up there? Is it safe at night in...More

Thanks, couldn't find a good map of Urgull. Seemed like a winding path, going back and forth rather than straight up.

All looks good except in the evenings don't just visit one bar, go to several. It is not only the way locals do it but you also get a feel (and taste) of far more places that way. While at Monte Igueldo have a ride on some of the old attractions in the amusement park. The rollercoaster and water ride are the best. Also have a drink in the Mercure hotel. It has enormous windows looking over La Conch Bay.
