I begin by clarifying that as a tourist site itself I did not find it great. Now, if you take it as a tour and walk inside the coastal promenade of beautiful San Sebastian now is another thing. Because going there while admiring the blue and the elegant views of the city Donostia is a rewarding experience.
They say that when the sea is white there converge the sea currents producing a beautiful show of dancing waters fruit of the waves and the wind.
That was not my experience but it was worth the energetic walk to that symbolic point of the city appreciating its particular beauty

Worth visiting to see as part of a walk. Difficult feat to fix them into the rock - they have become part of the landscape battered by the storms that will feature here sometimes, yet they will ‘comb’ the wind on its way

The place is magic and worth a visit, but due to ongoing slope retaining works access to the site is presently closed. You can see the place from afar: +/- 200 m

Nice sculpture from chillida, in a very nice spot of San Sebastián. Ideally you should go at sunset.
In summer the artificial geissers works and guess would be amazing (went on winter)
Not a must but if you spent one day in adam sebastián, you should take 30’ and take some photos

..this is one of my fav spots in San Sebastian. Last year I was in awe ... this year... the same.. it changes with each sky & wave.
This is one of the best places to visit with a good book, maybe pack a snack, and let the sea entertain you
The sculptures are amazing... the weathered rocks just add to the effect...and the sound of the pressure geisers is like whale watching
I know people who have said they skipped this place as it was far to walk...enjoy the day and walk...it is so worth it
Be mindful of the waves near the edge...I am surprised more dumb tourists dont get swept away... lots of power here...
Enjoy this work
very well planned
:)

The 'Combs of the wind' open air sculpture is located at the foot of Monte Igeldo, walking from the Old Town of San Sebastian they are at the end of the promenade path after Ondarreta beach.
The three spectacular pieces of steel were the creation of the Spanish Basque sculptor Eduardo Chillida, they have been in place in the rocks since 1977. We enjoyed sitting for awhile and taking in the view of the bay, the area is very peaceful.

In 1976 the American embassy declined the request by architect Eduardo Chillida to use their helicopters to place the structures on the rocks in their current location. Jose Elosegui then built a railed offshore bridge exclusively so that the structures could be located. The work was complemented with the underground tunnel through which water rushes in with the tide and emerges as jets of water through blow-holes.
The whole area was closed off for renovations when we visited mid June. Pity that the San Sebastian city council dd not see fit to put up a sign warning of the area's closure at the town end of the promenade. Luckily we went there on our rented bicycles.... we would have been very annoyed to walk all the way there to be greeted by a no entry sign.

I was reading some comments and I was surprised because some could not understand their meaning: Chillida, the author, worked with rusty steel (no maintenance required) because that's the origin of the basque industry. Therefore they represent our own past.
On top of that, he imagined this heavy material in a way in which it seems they are in a game with the winds and he twisted the rusty steel projecting an effect of lightness.
And not only that, instead of one sculpture, he planned 3 in different rocks giving an effect of blowing wind, hugging our city.
I hope it gives some more information now! And San Sebastian's citizens are very proud of our "Combs of the Wind". By the way, there 2 more sculptures to visit: Oteiza's and Basterretxea's.

We couldn't find it! Did we miss the signs, or is it really a hidden gem?

If you stand on the promanade of La Concha beach and look to your left at the base of rocky headland you will see the area you are seeking.
I would say it is approx 1km from the centre of the beach.
As for blow holes when the sea is rough, it is an exposed area and obviously subject to any winds, being there when the sea is rough would not be on my agenda however.
Hope this helps.
