None of the casinos in Europe resemble Las Vegas. The casino is San Sebastian requires that you show your passport each and every time you enter! What's that about? We'll have been in San Sebastian for 30 days renting an apartment and often go to the casino but ALWAYS have to remember to take the passports. Then, they issue you a little piece of paper that you do not have to show anyone to enter through the doors to the casino. I find this a total inconvenience, waste of time, unnecessary and intrusive! Now, ask me how I really feel. It generates a job!
There are two floors of gambling. The lower floor has about 50 machines. Unstairs, and there is an elevator, is the gaming room with black jack, poker table, roulette and has about five tables. We go during the week when you can play for €2.50 a hand vs. €5 on Friday & Saturday. I can't complain because we have won and will leave with some €'s if our luck continues.
The staff are friendly enough but seem bored out of their mind. Since we are often the only two people in the casino playing, we often get--what we would refer to--as the 'pit boss'--watching the dealer giving us our cards. It's disconcerting but that's gambling in Europe. You would think the €'s were coming out of his/their individual account!
The WC on the -1 floor is locked. I was taken to the WC on the 3rd floor by the receptionist who checks our passports and I noticed there was a cafe' there but it was not open in the evening.
BTW - The casino opens at 6:00 PM daily. There is no charge to enter. It is located in the old town area of San Sebastian and if you enjoy gambling it's interesting to see the differences from country to country. Many countries charge you to enter their casino--especially Monte Carlo. It's an experience but not necessarily a fun thing to do because they take gambling quite seriously here or at least the ambiance of it is. If you go--I hope you win but give yourself a budget and don't exceed it and you'll have had "an experience." Good Luck!

It’s a very nice, small casino in the Old Town area of a European country—just remember, you are not in Las Vegas, so things are different from what you are accustomed to. First off, you must present your passport for entry onto the premises. This is common throughout Europe so I knew to have mine with me. I went there on a Thursday evening at 6:30 PM that was just after opening for the table games part of the casino. Maybe due to the early hour, I had the Blackjack table mainly to myself and I was happy to see that all dealers spoke enough English to meet my needs. The limits are €2.50 minimum and €500 maximum. The big difference from US casinos is that here there is a continuous shuffler and the dealer is only dealt one card up and takes the last card after all players have completed their hand. It’s still just another casino where the odds favor the house. Overall, if you want to spend a few hours gambling in SS then this casino will fill the bill.

I didn't run into any issues within the casino. Make sure to take your passport. The game room is basically a blackjack and roulette table. Low stakes if you are just looking to have a fun time, but not the largest of places.

As the gaming rooms upstairs did not open until the evening we were only able to see the slots and these were strange games we had never seen before without any translations available as to how to operate the machines, payouts and the like, all in a very small dark dingy room. No glitz, no good music, no chatter, no bells ringing, nothing. If you just want to play slots, don't feel bad if you miss this one.

It is small but city but do not expect croupiers and Black Jack here. It is mostly slot machines and some roulette machines. If you enjoy gambling you will have fun.

Located in Old Town (across from the gazebo) is where this relatively small gaming casino makes its home. It is open 7 days a week and only closes from 5 in the morning to 10 in the morning. That's like 19 hours!
Inside, gamblers can find roulette, black jack, stud poker, slot machines, and a restaurant (even gamblers need to eat). There are also poker tournments held here.
We liked its Belle Epoque (lavish) style an how nicely it really did fit in to the neighborhood. It opened in 1921 and closed 3 years later when the gambling ban changed things. In the interim, things were in a state of flux and it wasn't until 1990 that attitudes and regulations changed.
This isn't Las Vegas by any means (thank the heavens).

I went to Casino Kursaal on a whim to see if there was a cash game available. I arrived around 10:30pm and signed up. There was a big tournament and only one cash game (1/2, 10 players at a table) table that started at around 11:30pm. The game play was friendly, the staff was nice. Not an American style casino, but certainly a great way to spend a few late hours at night.

Visited here last week solely to play poker and thoroughly enjoyed my night. Poker room is on 3rd floor and as far as i could see had only 4 tables but were almost full for the tournament i played. Staff have fairly good english, payers not so good but i found both to be very friendly and helpful. Everything about the place was first class, tables, chips, cards etc and the dealers were very good. Drinks were reasonable and free if you were playing cash, not sure if food was being served. Great tournament structure as well. Standard of play was good so overall 10/10. Location is also great, on the edge of the old town so dozens of great wee bars within a few minutes walk. Perfect for the breaks in play.

Played Blackjack & as it was a quiet night for them they said as I was the only player playing the dealer that I had to open 2 boxes, it was "their minimum requirement". It seemed to me like they didn't trust their dealers so let's let the player over leverage themselves against their better judgement & we will at least win one of the hands. I proceeded to lose 2 quick hands as they pulled a quick 20 & 21 so lost my money doubly as quick much to my chagrin. I explained how unfair I thought it was & that it was the only casino around the world (& I have played a few) that had such a deplorable rule! Enter at your own risk & only if you seriously have nothing (at all) better to do....
